Nigerian Eagle Airlines also known as air Nigeria had been travelling among the regional and domestic passengers. The airline is found to be the national flag carrier if Nigeria. The airline had been replaced with the old name of Nigeria Airways. The flights for Nigeria mainly take place through the Lagos, Murtala Muhammad International Airport and even the head office for the airline is located in Lagos.

The airline is also planning to make another base in Abuja with the name of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The Lagos base airport will be used to target the West African areas only. The air Nigeria had been founded in 2004 with the name if virgin Nigeria but in 2005 the operations for the airline had begun.

Currently the airline is being operating in 17 different destinations and eagle flier is the frequent flyer program for the Nigeria. The airline came into existence with the contract held between the Virgin group and the government of Nigeria. More than half of the company is being owned by the Nigerian Institutional investors and the other by the Virgin Atlantic Airways. The first flight from air Nigeria flew towards Heathrow from Lagos.

The airline had also received certain awards such as the THISDAY awards back in 2006 for the best airline. Moreover it also been nominated as for the African Airline for the year 2006. Boeing 737-300, airbus A330-243 and Embraer E-190 is being used as the aircraft for the Air Nigeria. In 2009, virgin Nigeria was at first changed to Nigerian Eagle airline but later on the name of the Nigerian eagles airline had been changed in 2010 to Air Nigeria with the consent of the chairman Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim. This had been done due to the majority of the shares in the airline.
