Four Great Reasons to Visit Protaras

25 September 2023

Tucked away in the easternmost point of the Mediterranean Sea, Cyprus is a perennial holiday favorite just a hop, skip and a jump away from Asia and Africa. At the island’s south eastern edge sits the busy holiday resort Protaras, a burgeoning tourist friendly strip of hotels, bars and beaches that draws visitors by the bucket load every summer season.

But what is the appeal of a modern, man-made holiday resort in a country with such a variety of rich cultural attractions and historical landmarks on the western side of the island? Four great reasons to visit Protaras immediately standout:

1. Beaches

Cyprus’ south east undoubtedly boasts the best beaches on the entire island. In the Protaras area specifically, 8 have been awarded prestigious Blue Flag accreditation in recognition of their exceptional water quality and public facilities. From the extremely popular Fig Tree Bay to the secluded sands of Konnos Beach, the Protaras coastline is scattered with prime sunbathing spots and inviting waters.

2. Nightlife

Protaras has a variety of bars, clubs and traditional tavernas that will appeal to all party loving families and couples. Just 10km away in the busy resort of Ayia Napa – the capital of the Cyprus club scene – the nightlife is livelier still, with big name DJs spinning the latest dance anthems until the early hours.

3. Water sports

A variety of water sports can be enjoyed at a number of the area’s exceptional beaches. Amongst the available activities are parasailing, speed boating, jet skiing, water skiing, wake boarding, sailing, banana boating and kayaking. Experienced and friendly guides are invariably on hand to show beginners the ropes and ensure all activities are enjoyed safely.

4. Weather

Finally, the weather in Protaras is best described as magnificent. Benefitting from 330-plus days of sunshine per year, the temperatures during the summer months reach in excess of 30 degrees on a daily basis with rainfall barely heard of. If the summer months are too hot, try visiting in the spring when the weather is cooler and fabulous wildflowers blossom throughout the area.
