Amazing Benefits of Infrared Sauna
There are a multitude of benefits from sauna therapy which is why an Infrared Sauna is part of the Wellness Therapies we offer here at Root Cause Medical Clinic.
Sauna increases heat shock proteins, which are specialized proteins that are very protective of the human body. They are increased when you sauna.
Let's begin with our number one killer, cardiovascular disease. Sauna therapy is protective against heart disease. It lowers blood pressure and increases circulation. Increased circulation can improve benefits of E.D., for both men and women, along with generalized benefits from body-wide circulation to all organs.
Sauna therapy improves immune function in a major way, protecting you from infections, viruses, etc.
Detoxification benefits are another aspect of sauna therapy that can have major impacts on improving your health. Sauna increases your natural killer cells (NK cells) along with anti-inflammatory immune modulators.
A study on sauna impacting diabetics showed that it stabilized blood sugar and decreased body fat.
Sauna can decrease body mass (weight).
Sauna, through its effects on heat shock proteins, is protective against neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzlheimer's dementia and Parkinson's.
The effects of heat therapy, sauna, mimics exercise in its physiologic response in your body. A study in the International Journal of Hyperthermia this year, 2023, observed the effects of a Finnish sauna on trained and untrained men. The untrained men decreased body mass (loss of weight) and increased muscle hypertrophy (muscle growth) while slowing muscle atrophy (muscle breakdown).
When you think of times in life when you cannot exercise for some reason, whether due to an injury or other life stressors, sauna can be a wonderful alternative to mimic some of the benefits of exercise. Best is to do both, exercise AND sauna, but the benefits mentioned above are good to know.
To tie it in a nice bow, sauna also increases Longevity!
Try to sauna for 15 minutes, take a 3 minute break in a cold shower and then back for another 15 minutes, and repeat 3 times per week. The temperature used and length of time you sauna should be gradiently increased. A good therapeutic level is 120 to 140 degrees F.
here at Ruka Medical Clinic we have several Wellness therapies one is an infrared sauna so I want to talk to you about the benefits of infrared sauna because they are numerous and more research comes out and it gets more exciting about why SAA therapy would be beneficial for you um there's an international Journal of hypothermia which is kind of exclusively looks at studies associated with this but what we want to focus on today is something called heat shock proteins which sounds kind of scary but these are uh proteins that our body produces when of course we're we're experiencing heat and they're very protective of the human body in fact when you have a deficiency of them you're more likely to get cancers and neurod degenerative diseases like cognitive decline Alzheimer's Parkinson's things like that so what do we know about infrared sauna is that that it with with that increased temperature and what I was kind of new to as far as research it just came out earlier this year had to do with how the physiological effects of sauna mimic the physiological effects of exercise now it's not to negate the importance of exercise by any means but let's say you hate exercise and and you've really never done it but you want to start raising your heart rate in increasing your circulation why would you want to do that what's our number one killer heart disease so that um increased heart rate uh increased circulation is very beneficial to protect against heart disease it lowers blood pressure and does uh with increased circulation helps circulatory issues like erectile dysfunction so it has a lot to do with with cardiac metabolic health and I was thinking you know I've often run into patient Pati s who like to exercise they were working out they were in decent shape and and they had an injury of some sort you know they injured their ankle they injured their knee and they were just sitting around so imagine if you knew this data about the benefits of sauna you could get yourself to a sauna and sort of keep yourself somewhat fit by going in the sauna and uh you want to sort of ramp up as far as temperature and and time in it but this recent article in the international Journal of hypothermia looked at 15minute blocks of being in the sauna and then taking a a three minute break so you can do you know the Finnish uh the famous Finnish sauna but what they do there of course hardcore they're you know putting water on the rocks and there's all this Steam and then they jump into the you know the the snow you know kind of roll around there for a few minutes and they're back in the sauna and it's been you know proven to be highly therapeutic so you don't have to jump into a snow bank but you can take a a cold um cold shower we're actually going to bring a cold plant here into the clinic soon so we're going to have the sauna and the cold plant right next to each other so highly therapeutic um that way as well so we we know about circulation helping with cardiovascular disease we also know that it mimics the effects of exercise to a degree so if you're someone who can't exercise for some reason or just haven't um the Sonic can be very beneficial as far as uh building muscle losing weight uh very very interesting so again this is not to negate the the power of exercise we still want you to exercise but good to know also what does it do so protects I mentioned a little bit about neurodegenerative disease so protects uh the brain from um potentially Alzheimer's cognitive decline Parkinson's also um what else did I want to mention oh your immune system of course so uh what the sauna does is it increases the natural killer cells and so your immune cells your immune system is stronger and much better able to defend you now we want defense immune wise all year long but I'm doing this Thanksgiving just passed so we're approaching we're in the heart of the holiday season and the Heart of winter coming and uh that's when people tend to get more colds and flu so most certainly at this time of year if you can get into a sauna it would very much behoove you at least three times a week would be great but it's known to improve uh your natural killer cells as I mentioned and what's called phagocytosis so fago is eating and so it's eating bad cells right bad organisms so you want that you want a nice strong uh robust immune system also helps in detoxification so you get get in the sauna it's um you're sweating you're getting rid of toxins so uh people fighting mold toxicity heavy metal toxicity uh viruses you know it's it's very good for all of those things uh it decreases body fat it stabilizes blood sugar so I saw an interesting study on looking at diabetics and improving with sauna therapy and just to wrap it up in a nice bow it increases longevity so nothing bad to say about sauna obviously be hydrated don't over tax yourself listen to your body get used to a gradient uh I'm up to about half an hour in the sauna about 130 140° and uh I love it I'm really feeling the benefit it's great for your skin on a more superficial level so these are all the benefits of sauna I urge you to take advantage of them they can have huge impacts on your health I'll see you soon
