Welcome back. September
is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month,
and there's a special event this weekend
in Hampton. And it's getting some
major support from a few NFL players,
former players. It's the second annual
Prostate Cancer and Men's Health Awareness
Fair here. Tell us more about it. We welcome back Tiffany
Rogers with the Hampton University Proton
Therapy Institute and former NFL player
Wally Rainer. Thank you so much you all for coming back on our show. This year, of course year two, we're back at it for people that don't know what is happening. What is this? So this Saturday, September 16th from 9:00 to 12:00, we are having our second
annual Men's health prostate cancer
awareness event where we will be providing
the men of the Hampton Roads
area with free PSA tests and Dre
exams by Sentara. We are so excited to be able to provide this service to the men of Hampton Roads. It's such a cool initiative. And I know everyone's like, yes, that's great. But I heard NFL and Wally, that's kind of where you come in here talk to me about your involvement in this. What I lost two uncles
to prostate cancer and I've been an advocate
for men's health, even when I was playing. But to be able to give back here in the 757 and like
Tiffany said, Aaron Brooks, Bruce Smith, for from this area,
to better bring the men out and bring the
community out, it's highly important. So I love to be involved
with it. And each year I'm
always excited. Yes, as you should be. And I feel like a lot
of people when they see people like
you Wally and other men kind of
step up and say this is important to talk about. It opens everyone's eyes to why this is so important. Tiffany, so walk me through for people that maybe
are still like, I don't know, I'm not
going to come out. Why is this a big deal? This is such a big deal
because
one in eight men will be diagnosed
with prostate cancer in their lives.
One in eight. So we have got to be proactive. And when I say we, I mean the caregivers
and the men's lives, I mean the men we have got to be proactive about tackling this. Prostate cancer is 99% curable if it's detected early. So if men are doing what
they need
to do, go get screen, go to
the doctor every, every year, if they're being proactive about their health, we can save their lives. And we need to do that. We need the men in our
lives, you know. So I just encourage
all the men
in the Hampton Roads area come
out this Saturday, September 16th. From 9:00 to 12:00. You can call 1800 Sentara to schedule an appointment. If you don't have to do that, just come on out. Come to the Hampton University
Proton Therapy Institute for the Enterprise
Parkway. We will be there. We will be there to screen you. We will be there to provide educational information. Yeah, the panel's a big deal. That's a lot of people want to come just to see you all talk. What is this panel going to be like this year? But it's it's it's men talk, NFL guys coming back,
giving back. You know, infusing energy with with each other and
the community, asking the questions, the the giving, the
tough answers, being there for the community and just making sure men let them know and come out. Come out and do what? Do what you need to do for your families and yourself and Wally for you.
You've personally seen family members
go through this. What's it like for
you to be
a part of this kind of helping
other men say it's all right to
talk about this. It's a very big thing,
very empowering. Always say I talked to Tiffany about health as well. I talked to my sons about health is the true wealth. So just making sure that we have infused that into the community and to other men. Tiffany, for anyone,
that's like, OK, I guess I should come
out one more time. Tell me when and where. This. Yes, it is. This Saturday, September 16th from 9:00 to 1:00 at the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute, which is located at 40 Enterprise Parkway in Hampton. And for people that are like, how much am I going
to have to pay? What's the. We have to pay anything. Everything
is free. These are all, you know, the educational information, the screenings. We have a vegan food truck that's going
to be there. Just come on out. We will take care of you. This is priceless, priceless information
and education. Come on out. Yes. Health as well. Tiffany. Wally, thank you so much for not only doing this, but what you're doing
for our community. Thank you. Means a lot. We'll be right back with more news and weather.
