[Music] all this information I'm actually going to put up on my website within about a week and I'm creating sort of I'm taking this information and I'm expanding it into sort of a mini free course with tutorials and videos and you know resources for you so I would just say don't worry too much if you feel like there's a lot of information you can get back to it so I'm just going to share my suite and I really hope this works all right so I just want to preface this with saying that this webinar is of course for educational purposes only not intended to diagnose treat or cure or prevent especially koban 19:00 this is simply just for educational purposes and Jacob already mentioned all of this but yes I've been practicing for 18 years I'm a doctor of Chinese medicine registered acupuncturist I started out working in Vancouver and then I switched and I worked in Kitsilano and now I'm actually in my home clinic and deep cove in North Vancouver so it's a really it's really been a nice transition to be able to work from home I graduated from the International College of Chinese medicine in Vancouver in 2002 and I did my internship then as well and my focus in my clinic is women's health also fertility pregnancy I treat a lot of pain management and I do a lot of cosmetic acupuncture so Chinese medicine has been used for thousands of years it's the most experienced form of medicine in the world it continues to be widely used and it's highly respected today it's actually used by two-thirds of the world's population and there's a Chinese saying that goes excellence comes from experience and I think this really rings true with Chinese medicine it's very safe and effective because Chinese medicine practitioners will tailor their treatments to the individual and many people might just sort of think of acupuncture when they hear traditional Chinese medicine but it's actually more than that it consists of acupressure something called moxibustion which we'll be getting into later in the slides Chinese herb almond of course cupping and nutrition and food cures so Chinese medicine views the body as a garden so you have to nurture and tend to your garden you have to water it pull out the weeds be mindful of any pests look at your garden every day to notice any subtle changes to make sure that your garden flourishes on the other hand in Western medicine the body has seen more as like a machine with different parts that are sort of separate from one another so we typically wait until something breaks and then we see a mechanic to fix or replace that part so in this Chinese medicine model of seeing the body as a garden we're actually learning to take care of ourselves on every level so physically emotionally and mentally so that sicknesses don't develop and the fundamental view of Chinese medicine is the doctrine of the mean so this means not too much and not too little moderation this goes for eating exercise sleep and rest so the premise is that anything in excess can cause imbalance an imbalance can lead to sickness so moderation and striving for balance in all things is really key to good health so Chinese medicine aims to strengthen the body as a whole to allow the immune system to function properly so because Chinese medicine treats the whole body and all the organ systems are of course interconnected and related to one another today's talk is essentially going to be about making a shift in your whole health and your lifestyle so one of the central concepts of Chinese medicine it's the concept of Chi you may or may not have heard about this concept but it's loosely translated as energy or life force and she is what gives us life it moves through our bodies throughout vessels or channels and in transmission we call this the Meridian system and the aim of Chinese medicine is to promote this movement of Chi in our bodies because these meridians connect with our internal organs and they nourish the organs with Chi with blood and with nutrients so illness is essentially due to a blockage in the flow of Chi within this meridian system so that's why it's always important to try to keep that Chi flowing through and to also have an adequate amount of Chi flow so I thought this photo is you know quite striking but he this guy looks like he has really good Chi so in Chinese medicine we say that somebody with a good healthy immune system has good Chi this means a good amount of Chi but also a good flow of Chi and there's a few different kinds of Chi but one that's really important to talk about for the immune system is called the way Chi and we call this the protective Chi so it's like the outer protective blanket that keeps out pathogens like viruses and bacteria and it texe you against these foreign invaders so the lungs control the movement of the way Chi and the digestion produces more weight sheet so to have proper functioning weight sheet we have to have good functioning lungs and most importantly we have to have proper digestion and an analogy that I really like to illustrate how Chinese medicine thinks of the immune system is the analogy of the thief and the house so imagine that your body is the house and external pathogens like viruses or bacteria or the thief so you want to do everything you possibly can to prevent a thief from entering your house so you'll need to lock your doors close your windows maybe you have a locked cage or an alarm system in place and so having these security measures is like strengthening your weight sheet for your body so let's say you're not say sleeping while or eating enough or eating the right foods or managing your stress and all the things we'll be talking about today it's like you're leaving your door wide open for the thief to get in so in the case of our bodies we're increasing the likelihood of allowing these external pathogens to enter so right now with the pandemic we can think of this thief as being extra clever and even maybe the thief has special tools or gadgets to get into your house very quickly so that's why right now it's even more of a crucial time to work on strengthening your way Chi and forming just good healthy habits and so this is a topic that might be kind of controversial and a lot of people might believe that getting cold doesn't actually make you catch a cold and perhaps it's just an old wives tale but actually Chinese medicine says that this is very true so and this is of course again according to the function of the weight sheet so the wind and the cold penetrate the skin and disrupt the circulation of Wei Qi which then weakens and blocks the way Chi and the wind and the cold they tend to first enter through the back of the neck the shoulders and the head and that's why I'm sort of the first sign of coming down with something is that uncomfortable stiff feeling that you might get and science actually does agree with this somewhat because science says that being cold increases stress in your body and it also reduces blood flow so both of those things will we can be immune system so one thing that I always tell people is to try to cover up and protect themselves against this wind and cold and here in Vancouver I think we do a really good job of that already I always see people wearing a lot of layers so in Chinese medicine there are four things that contribute to having good Sheen and those things are diet and nutrition exercise adequate rest and relaxation and also a good mental attitude and doing good work in the world so a typical person I see with a weak immune system tends to have a few of these symptoms so they tend to run cold with cold hands and feet they may tend to have lower energy or perhaps a weak digestion poor appetite bloating after they eat or feeling really fatigued or tired after meals they may have a tendency to looser bowel movements or diarrhea they also might have difficulty focusing and concentrating so if you can relate to any of these symptoms you're possibly someone who has to work on strengthening your Chi so we've sort of gone over some basics of Chinese medicine now I just want to get into what you can actually do right now for better health and for better immunity and I know that you've heard this a million times by now but I can't stress enough that one of the most vital ways that you can prevent illness is to just wash your hands and this is a photo that I recently shared on Instagram just showing what areas are often missed when hand-washing so so your thumbs the web's of your fingers the tips of your fingers and also to try to wash up into the wrists extend up into the wrists and the CDC actually says that if you do wash your hands correctly this can reduce the rates of the common cold by up to 21% so it's super easy why not do it so now we come to sort of my favorite topic and that's diet so these days diet is you know open to a lot of differences in opinion there's a lot of debate about what kinds of diets are the best what's healthy what's not healthy I personally find it very confusing but I have to say that Chinese medicine has done a really great job it has very simple and clear structures when it comes to diet it's not a fad it's it's written about diet for centuries it's very common-sense and it's just guidelines to healthy balanced eating it's very easy to implement Chinese medicine diet strategies it's not it's not difficult to implement and it's very easy to maintain so the Chinese medicine basically just has a very strong focus on easy to digest foods and we're going to talk about what are easy to digest foods in a second so in Chinese medicine and I think it's really important to talk about how Chinese medicine use our digestive processes so that it's clear later on what I'm actually going to be recommending so Chinese medicine digestion is considered a warm transformation so this means that warm energy is needed in Chinese medicine the stomach is referred to as the cooking pot so it takes the food and liquids that we put into our bodies and it mushes it into a soup a hundred degrees soup so in order to properly digest our foods there has to be enough heat and fire under this cooking pot and after the foods are broken down in the stomach it's the spleen systems job to transform these nutrients in order to produce more Chi and more blood and the more Chi and blood you have the stronger your immune system will be so I always say to people to try to have more warm cooked foods instead of cold foods and just a general rule of thumb is to have 80% of your diet being cooked foods and 20% being raw foods so some examples of cold raw foods that I really strongly recommend you take out of your diet especially right now with you know dealing with the virus is so some examples would be like smoothies with frozen fruits salads of course ice cream popsicles that goes without saying but even sushi or iced beverages a lot of people like to have yogurt for breakfast that's actually a big no-no in Chinese medicine you don't want to have fruit straight from the fridge so if you're sort of dying to have cold foods I would recommend to balance cold foods with warm foods so for example if you have a big salad you'd want to follow it with a warm cup of water or a horrible tea or you may want to add chicken breast or salmon or some some cooked foods to your salads or a boiled egg you you may want to leave your frozen berries out of the freezer overnight before you use them in your smoothie the next day so those are just some some little tips for for that but in Chinese medicine definitely cold and raw foods are a big dough know they'll stagnate your digestion and and then your body has to work so much harder to digest those foods so proper hydration is a big one particularly with the virus and just for your immune system in general so always drink warm or hot water instead of cold water and I would recommend to just sip on hot water throughout the entire day to just have your thermos with you at all times and always trying to keep your throat moist and hydration is not just water it's also increasing foods that contain a lot of fluids things like soups and stews congee bone broth porridge steamed rice steamed grain steamed veggies cooked fruits and another thing is I would recommend to not use too many spices and foods because spices can deplete fluids and dehydrate and another thing in Chinese medicine that we really dislike in the diet are damp sticky foods so sticky foods are just hard to digest and they also congest the lungs so some sticky food examples are dairy products especially cheese because cheese is very condensed all refined sugar like cakes and and pastries gluten is also a sticky food alcohol especially beer pizza of course well pizza is so good but so bad burgers french fries deep fried foods greasy foods bananas processed foods margarine trans fats and rancid oils so if you eat sticky foods next time you do you may want to take a look at your tongue and look at the coating because typically after eating these sticky foods our coating becomes quite thick and may be quite white or yellow you may get sort of these mucus lines on your tongue as well so how about how to eat Chinese medicine has a lot to say about this as well so you want to eat at regular times every day I don't recommend intermittent fasting right now I don't recommend to skip meals so at the same time that you would don't want to skip meals you also want to give your digestion a little bit of a break between meals you don't want to over eat or under eat try not to eat late at night I would say after about 8 o'clock you'd want to stop eating and maybe just drink tea or drink hot water after 8 o'clock you don't want to drink cold beverages along with meals and also it's important to not be mentally and emotionally stimulated while eating because that can disrupt the digestion so for example having stressful conversations or difficult conversations or watching the news or reading a book or studying while you're eating can disturb the the digestive system you don't want to eat on the go instead try to sit enjoy your food thoroughly so all these tips just help your digestion to work better and a healthy digestion is really key to a good functioning immune system and so Chinese medicines philosophy is that our bodies are in tune with nature so it's important to eat according to the seasons so for example in spring it's a time of renewal and movement after being a bit more sedentary through the winter it's a time when you can incorporate fresh greens green onions cilantro parsley and other veggies and fruits while still eating the majority of your food being cooked foods or at least lightly cooked foods summer is a time when you can take advantage with a lot of more sort of fresh fruits and veggies and have them being more raw because your body is better equipped in the summer to digest these cold foods so some summer foods are things like fresh greens or watermelon or peppers but just as a side if if you do suffer from a lot of bloating or looser bowel movements you still want to stick to more cooked warm foods in the bottom we're sort of starting to transition to cooler weather and shorter days so you can start to have more soups and stews roasted root veggies like carrots sweet potatoes beets and squash and you can drink more teas with some added ginger to it and then in winter it's sort of a time to go inward a time for restoration and reflection so we can cook our food slower to add more heat to our foods and we can add also more warming spices like cinnamon dried ginger cloves pepper and cumin and during the winter I highly recommend to completely avoid any frozen treats like ice cream and cold foods and smoothies and salads so in Chinese medicine we have a 24-hour organ clock so it's divided into 12 to hour intervals and each two hour interval has a specific organ which is at its strongest point so for example you want to eat a nutritious breakfast between 7 to 9 a.m. because that's the stomach time so that's when the stomach is is strongest to be able to digest those foods and then between 9 to 11 a.m. is an important time to just digest and turn these nutrients into energy the spleen is the strongest at that time and you want to avoid eating too much between 7 to 11 p.m. because 7 to 11 p.m. is the sort of 12 hours after the strongest time of the stomach and spleen which makes that the weakest time for the stomach and Slee and also it's important to try to have sort of one daily bowel movement and the best time for that is between 5 to 7 a.m. because that's the strongest time for the large intestine so I recommend first thing in the morning when you wake up to drink 2 cups of warm water to help flush the large intestine and this might be a bit repetitive here but just some other things for best immunity would be chicken or vegetable soups so not cream-based fo-fo is great just fantastic bone broth is one of my favourite things you'd want to have ginger lemon and honey tea goji berries in hot water is is great very nutritious you can peel a tangerine and dry the peels like to just put them out in the Sun and put those in hot water and that's really beneficial to dry the dampness and phlegm in our bodies and to decrease congestion lightly cooked dark dark green veggies so kale broccoli spinach cabbage zucchini string beans bok choy and again I stress the lightly cooked part lemon and other citrus fruits are great fermented foods are really helpful for our guts and digestion kombucha sauerkraut kimchi miso tempeh pickles and some others would be like turmeric sweet potatoes yams cooked carrots mushrooms garlic is always great and you just want to make sure to always have plenty of protein in your diet in the form of eggs or lean meats or fish beans are great so just to talk a little bit about rest and exercise so again going back to this doctrine of the mean so trying to be moderate so try to move your body daily and Chinese medicine we say if you don't do that your body can sort of get mucked up with this stagnation so stagnant Chi and blood dampness and phlegm just congested but at the same time you don't want to overdo it so you don't want to over exercise because over exercise can actually consume that Shi so just as a rule of thumb and exercise should always make you feel energized not fatigued or injured or unwell so if you do feel that when you when you do exercise you may want to sort of tone it down a little bit and the types of exercise I recommend are walking if you can walk every day even for just 20 minutes that's great or hiking biking yoga is great chi gong tai chi dancing um anything that gets you moving so I would just say try to make it fun so it's sustainable for you so sleep I know a lot of people these days are having a lot of difficulty sleeping I know that there's a lot of stress and anxiety right now I would say to you the more sleep you can get right now the better so sleep like it's your job and those hours before midnight are very very important so they actually say that the hours of sleep you get before midnight can actually count as double so try not to go to bed later than 10:30 for those of you that are having a little bit of stress and anxiety e you may want to do a little bit of writing before bedtime just maybe write down everything that's on your mind to sort of release those things reading before bed is great and try not to read on screens try to limit caffeine so no caffeine after – and just to have a good sleep routine and they say that actually sleep deprivation of less than seven hours a night has been shown to triple your chances of getting sick a lot of talking here okay so this is a question I get from a lot of my patients and they asked me well what does it mean that why am I always every single night I wake up at 2:00 let's say and actually Chinese medicine has a lot to say about this so there could often be underlying physical and emotional meanings involved – waking up at the same time every night so if we just go back to the Chinese medicine organ clock so let's say you wake up every night between 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. that's the gallbladder time so this just means that you have to take extra care of your gallbladder so reduce fat intake or consume healthier fats on an emotional level you may be carrying a lot of resentment and bitter feelings that's really blocking your gallbladder energy system if you wake up between 1:00 to 3:00 a.m. this is very very typical very common this is the liver time you may be struggling with a lot of unfulfilled desires or frustration or tension stress anxiety and physically your liver might be a little bit overloaded so you you should sort of take a closer look at your diet or maybe even your alcohol intake and then waking up between 3 to 5 it shows up as the lung time and there may be something blocking your ability to sort of breathe freely and deeply and on an emotional level you might be dealing with loss or with a lot of grief so I really recommend like doing more breath work yoga is great and deep abdominal exercises so now we get to sort of what are the biggest factors that can suppress the immune system and that's stress so stress activates our sympathetic nervous system or our flight fight-or-flight nervous system so this is definitely needed and small amounts but when it comes to sort of large amounts or over a long period of time that's when it can actually have harmful effects on our immune system so in large amounts the cortisol which is the stress hormone it can actually lower the number of white blood cells and it prevents cellular healing so Chinese medicine aims to bring you into a Paris pathetic state so a more relaxed calm state of healing I do have a couple of self acupressure points that I that I can show you after the slides that will help with stress and anxiety so happy people they tend to have stronger Wei Qi or that protective Qi that I was talking about and too much mental emotional activity we say that it consumes the cheese so it makes us age more quickly heal more slowly makes us more prone to disease and attack by these pathogens of the viruses and the bacteria so as much as you can do things that bring you joy maybe have a hobby you get plenty of fresh air get plenty of sunshine if possible meditation is always important mindfulness is great try to avoid triggers so if let's say watching the news is really a trigger for you maybe avoid that for a little while and see how you feel decluttering your livers if you're sorry your living space is important reading is great just practicing self-care and just practicing the art of letting go helps a lot so Chinese herbal medicine um Chinese herbal medicine is of course really helpful for immunity but also it just helps honestly anything under the Sun and often when people think of Chinese herbs they may just think of sort of those raw herbs that you see in the herbal shops in Chinatown that you have to boil it and then it stinks up your apartment and then it's difficult to drink it but nowadays it's not like that anymore so of course there is still the raw herbs but personally in my clinic I have pills I also have concentrated powders you just mix into hot water and you drink it like an instant tea so it's very easy there's also tinctures and there is a very famous Chinese herbal formula it's called you ping Fung sense or Jade windscreen is the translation and this is typically taken every day for just prevention in the cold and flu season it's very common in China so it's very safe and gentle and everybody can can take it and then acupuncture of course I'm a huge fan of acupuncture but regular acupuncture treatments stimulates blood and lymphatic circulation it reduces inflammation and boosts your Chi and it speeds healing I just thought I would add this in there of course right now most acupuncturists are not working in their clinics but hopefully at some point that will change so self acupressure is a topic that I love because it's something that you can do at home basically wherever you are so really what is self acupressure it's just basically acupuncture without the needles so you just use your hands and fingers to stimulate the points and it's really the same point locations and the same functions as acupuncture it's super easy to learn and to implement and when you do it consistently and when I say consistently I mean you know a couple times a day at least it's very very effective and to be honest it can actually even be more effective than acupuncture because with acupuncture you have to do let's say you know in the West it's more like a once a week or once every other week type of treatment whereas with acupressure you can do it as much as you want and then it's gonna be more effective and what does acupressure do so it stimulates the nervous system it promotes blood flow creates balance and it basically helps your body to heal itself so it facilitates the body's own healing mechanisms and so in the case of the immune system it is stimulating that flow within the lymphatic system to encourage healing and strengthening the wage sheet so at this point so I thought okay it might be a little hard to show you the points on zoom especially like I'm probably very little right now so I thought I would make a few videos to show you so there's four different acupressure points that I'll show you hope this works so the first point for boosting the immune system is called large intestine 4 and it's on your hand how to locate this point you want to put your thumb and index finger together and the point will be between the thumb and the index finger at the highest point of the muscle so you'll feel that the point is quite tender and you want to press for about 30 seconds and then release and then press again the reason for this point is that it releases the exterior so it helps to release pathogens like viruses and bacteria from the body it also connects to the head in the face so it's a great a decongestant point great for allergies and sinus congestion it's a very famous point for headaches and it's a great anti-inflammatory point and you can do the same on the other side so do firm pressure for 30 seconds release and do again you could do that for anywhere between 3 to 5 times on each hand and it should feel quite sore the next point to boost your immune system is called large intestine 11 and how to locate this point is response on your elbow and you'll just see that there's a crease here and you can feel the bone and the point is midway between the end of the crease and the bone and the reason for this point it's a great point to clear heat so it's great to reduce fever and clear toxins from the body it also releases the exterior so it clears the viruses and bacteria it's also a great point for COFF and you just want a massage firmly again for about 30 seconds release and do it again for about three to five times and then do the same on the other side the next point to boost the immune system is on the leg and it's called stomach 36 and this point to locate it first you just go right below your kneecap on the little dip right next to the kneecap and you're gonna want to go about four finger widths below the kneecap and about an inch away from the tibia bone so it's right in here and you want to do really firm pressure you can do both sides at the same time and this is the most important point to boost the immune system on the whole body so it basically boosts the Chi it stimulates the movement of Chi through the body and it's also great for improving the function of the digestion and just strengthening general weakness and you want to do that for about a minute do both sides at the same time and release and again this point should feel quite tender the last point I'll be showing you to boost the immune system is on the feet and it's called liver 3 to locate the point it will be between the big toe and the second toe you find the web and you just move an inch away from the web and you want to just place firm pressure on both feet at the same time with your index finger about 30 seconds release and again for about three to five times and the reason for this point is that it works really well with the point on the hand large intestine for to release the exterior so again to release the viruses and bacteria from the body and also it's a great point for depression and anxiety and just that feeling of tension and irritability all right yeah I thought how am I gonna show my feet and my legs on zoom so that was a much easier plan so there's also something called Moxie question or we call it moxa and Chinese medicine and this has also been used in Chinese medicine for centuries and it's using her called mugwort and what you do with this herb is you basically you light it I do have a video for this to of course it is meant to heat the specific point on the leg that I showed you at the self acupressure point because this particular point has huge benefits for the immune system so this herb the mugwort its stimulates circulation it warms the channels and a boosts our cheese or boosts our energy and when you do moxa on this particular point it increases the production of white blood cells and red blood cells and it stimulates circulation of the blood and the lymph and our Cassity to produce antibodies it also increases energy endurance and stamina it improves digestion and increases oxygen and I I always recommend to just have moxa at home and to do it about twice or twice a week or so you can buy it on Amazon it's very cheap I actually have a link on my website for the Amazon product so I'm just gonna show you a video about how to do the moxa okay so once you've let your moxa all you do is you have it at a comfortable distance from your skin so you want to do moxa on stomach 36 which is just about a hand width below your kneecap and just about one inch from your tibia bone and you want to do that for about five minutes on each side typically you'd want to do it for about about two to three times a week same on the other side and you want to sort of go in a circular motion instead of staying stationary so that it doesn't get too hot okay I hope that made sense and just some supplements that I recommend because this is also a question that I get often from people for your immune system I would keep it simple I don't think you have to take a ton of supplements especially if you're eating well so I would just stick to vitamin D you can take up to four thousand units a day it really depends where you live I think right now we've been getting a good amount of Sun so four thousand not much more than that it's good zinc lozenges are great to just have throughout the day just to keep everything moist as well and probiotics are something I tell everybody to try to take because you know our digestion is so important so probiotics are great to support the digestion and the immune system and vitamin C is always a great thing to take but I will say that vitamin C won't really prevent you from getting sick but it actually will more speed up the healing if you are actually sick with a cold or flu and we're coming close to the end here so I just want you to remember that you're unique and so is your immune system so I always advise that people do go and see a Chinese medicine practitioner to really get customized instruction for for their particular constitution because we are all different I'm just gonna stop my share here and not quite done yet actually I did want to show just a couple of self acupressure points for stress and anxiety the less stressed and the less anxious we are especially at this time the better our immune system so one of them it's called Yin Tong and it's just on our forehead right between our eyebrows and this is a great point for calming the nervous system calming the mind it also helps with relieving congestion in the head great for headaches I also do it in my clinic for frown lines so it's always a great one and to just sort of do this for about a minute a couple times a day and the other point that is a great one for threat anxiety specifically is actually on the chest so I'm just going to down here so it's just on if you just take your hand and you go down your sternum to the middle of your chest between the breasts this point it's called Ren 17 and this is a great point to open the chest and it should feel actually very tender it reduces anxiety and it really helps with opening the lungs and helping your breathing and after you do pressure on this point I have to say that it's gonna feel tender for a little while and just do that again a couple times a day or whenever you feel anxious so that's about all I have for today umm Jacob I don't know where you are but okay so yeah we can sort of open it up I'm just gonna go on the gallery view we can open it up to any comments or questions it was wonderful thank you thank you dr. Miriam I have a question about Saviour you know like you coming down which is very throat and your body feels on well like you know you're coming down with something can you prevent that with something you think am I am i hearing Mary Lee right now yeah marry me right yeah so just when you feel that sort of sore throat coming back coming on yeah well I have a few things so I would really highly recommend just hydration hot fluids ginger is great ginger with a bit of lemon and honey I really like oregano oil as well and you can just go straight like just a couple of drops on the tongue that really helps with sore throats I often give Chinese herbs to just when you sort of feeling that little bit of it sure difficulty swallowing I have a particular training circle formula it's called gum mouth link and it's it's it's magical it really does the trick every time and lots of soups just going back to like lots of warming cooked foods but particularly hot water throughout the day okay thank you very much well you're very welcome if I can add I take that Chinese earth it just does magic in preventing cult as soon as I hear you know you have to serve symptoms you take it and it's just beautiful and I have to say like the sort of tricky thing with the Chinese herbs is that you can't sort of just go anywhere and buy them and it is sort of customized so you do sort of have to see a Chinese medicine practitioner first hi Miriam its Ulta here I'll tell ya thank you it was wonderful um a quick question so given the state of the nation that we're in right now and we will continue to incorporate by some of these strategies if we were to look at getting herbal medicine so so we can still connect through you and do if I'm understanding correctly and on sort of soon connector and you can prescribe that for us and we can pick it up or how would that work yeah so definitely I I can do phone consultations or video consultations if I haven't ever seen you before I prefer video so that I can take a look at your tongue because that tells me so much and also just as a way of connecting a little bit deeper and yeah so what I've been doing so far is I just do the consultation and then I prepare the herbs and I will literally leave the herbs outside of the of my home clinic so that there's no contact at all so it's very very easy and then another thing during the consultation is all advice very specific customized dietary and lifestyle recommendations and I'll even show you how to do different self acupressure points and just show you different tools okay perfect thank you thank you no thank you very much for Gnostic information I was just wondering about a vegetarian vagin how your diet recommendations would work for me not drinking bone broths etc how can we support our immune system during this time being vegan vegetarian so my experience I've come across quite a few vegan vegetarian people and there's some that have been excellent at their eating habits and just eating enough and eating really nutritious good foods and there's been some that have been lacking and I definitely think vegan vegetarian diet it's easier for men to do that and it's a little bit harder on women because women are just naturally more blood deficient and we also lose blood with our menstrual cycles and with pregnancy and so it's a little bit tougher on us but I think with the bone broth for example to try to have just vegetable broth and to try to sort of substitute but I think if you're having a very nutritious side of a lot of cooked greens you should be safe and maybe taking a few supplements some iron supplements or B vitamins would be really beneficial yeah so I sort of take a very careful look when I when I do have a patient in my clinic who is a sort of vegan or vegetarian I take a very careful look so we go through everything they're eating in an average day and I try to make particular recommendations yeah so definitely you know vegetarians have to be a little bit more aware of their diet thank you I hope that answered your question can can use these substitute beans Frost do we have such a thing bean sprouts rather than chicken broth I mean yeah I mean I would just say vegetable broth would be really sufficient if you know if you pack it in with all of the especially the dark green veggies I think that that's that's fantastic and maybe just have it more consistently than someone has their bone broth like for a vegetable broth I would even say to try to have three cuts of the broth every single day yeah I was asking wanting to ask about um you know respiratory congestion what would you recommend about the same thing as you recommended the sore throats or is there some different regiment so I think for respiratory congestion breathing is very important so just trying to do a lot of breath work and being active so try not to sort of have a very sedentary lifestyle to open the lungs and again just you know going back to warm cooked foods and warming liquids so it would be very similar to sore throat and that point that I showed on the chest that's a beautiful point for congestion you have any acupressure points to deal with acid reflux and thank you so much for teaching us all this well you're so welcome yeah so for acid reflux and there is actually a point that I don't even do it with acupuncture but it's a great point for acupressure and I can show it to you right now it's actually right in this dip right here but it's it's a very sensitive point and you sort of don't want to do it for too long but I would say just 30 seconds really gentle that's a great point for acid reflux and even again that point in the middle of the chest that's a that's a good one too thank you you're welcome I think I saw Joanie had a question you're so welcome I was just wondering about like the guava as a tool to say like relax or invoke the parasympathetic nervous system is that something you'd recommend I noticed one of the pressure points was like on the face curious about its effectiveness yeah so I didn't get into gouache I just yeah I would have actually loved to but I didn't think there'd be enough time guava is excellent so it's basically just a for anyone who doesn't know it's using a jade stone there's also rose quartz stones that are used nowadays and it's a great point this one the one in the middle of the forehead to just take the stone you could put a little bit of cream first if you have dry skin and just go up and down with the stone it's hard to show without the stone on me but also to to do the upper shoulders and even if you have somebody else at home to help you um they could do it on your upper back just on either side of the spine mm-hmm and those are all really great to just come and ground your energy and I love the GWACs offer you know anti-aging and cosmetic reasons too so so yeah this is a great area to do that um do you sell the GWACs and you mentioned like drop off herbal service hmm I didn't know it's like is Jade better than rose quartz you know you go to these hipster stores near Cairo how they really are you know it's funny I I honestly think they're about the same and in you know what they do and their quality but the rose quartz so much better for my experience I think it's just because it's pink and it's pretty so I have sold both I don't have rose quartz at the moment but I do have Jade and yeah it's sort of a hot seller I have to say yeah and I have tutorials too that I would point you to that yeah if cosmetic was something that you were looking for to show you how to do it all because most people look at it they're like well what do I do with this so the tutorials are really helpful I want to say thank you very much it was the most interesting and informative and well presented information on traditional Chinese medicine thank you so much thank you so much it really was a pleasure to do that well it was well received thank you
