dr ashton is here back with us answering some of your questions here is one i thought i knew the answer to this one um can i build back bone density without drugs what would you say i thought once you lose it you lose it i didn't know you could build back the bone like they're both kind of right you're right but you do lose it when you lose it um we're only able to build bone density believe it or not up to our mid-20s after that you're kind of slowly losing so can you build it yes but will you ever get back to where you are mid-20s no here are the non-pharmaceutical ways that i recommend to my patients who happen to be women but this works for men too who are trying to build up their bone density number one diet so vitamin d enriched foods or a supplement is easy to take vitamin k in rich foods so you're talking about vegetables nuts dairy soy people think they can only get these things from dairy not true so look this up online and find the foods that you like calcium you should get from food sources not a supplement we've known about that data for over five years now it actually doesn't really help our bones usually when taken in supplement form so get that from food and then weight bearing exercise so i talk to people all the time who say i love to swim that's fantastic cardiovascular exercise it doesn't help your bones if you are a small framed person i recommend you get a weighted vest you can easily get one online put a couple of extra pounds in it when you walk the dog go to the grocery store do your errands the more stress you put on your frame i.e lifting weights walking those kind of things the better for your bones all right and i know you have a prescription for wellness now you want to do it now i just want to get to it later we could just yeah let's do it later we can do it later so this one inspired by something i read in harvard business review about procrastination really in life or the workplace but how many of us procrastinate when it comes to our health right a lot um so here's three tips from that article which i thought was really fascinating number one be tolerant of the demanding work what does that mean you know we do have to do unpleasant things um just accept that and be tolerant of it number two untangle your feelings for that said thing so let's say you want to go for a checkup or or accomplish a task and you are expecting it to be unpleasant it will be so try to uncouple that and see it uh slightly differently and then limit this work time to 90 minutes now that doesn't really apply to health maintenance things but if you are trying to accomplish a new task or get something done it doesn't have to be an all-day affair i say this right after taxes are due just 90 minutes a day maximum and then move on procrastinators out there or do it tomorrow all right thank you dr aston keep your questions coming to her on our instagram at dr jay ashton well hey there gma fans robin roberts here thanks for checking out our youtube channel lots of great stuff here so go on click the subscribe button right over right over here to get more of awesome videos and content from gma every day anytime we thank you for watching and we'll see you in the morning on gma

  1. I’ve been taking Planet Ayurveda’s herbal remedies for osteopenia—feeling less joint pain!

  2. This is nonsense… you can build back bone density..

  3. Regarding a weighted vest – I have a spine that has more instability than most people because I have a vertebra that's a little off the line with the other vertebra and a few bad disks. My spine gets easily compressed so the extra weight sounds bad. However I walk and do cardio exercise for 30 minutes with no symptoms.

  4. 1. Vitamin D3 and K2 and calcium rich foods
    2. Weight bearing exercises

  5. So…does that mean those who have extra lbs on their body (like a weighted vest), are less likely to have bone loss??

  6. Your Skeletal structure is more then just calcium, theres nore nutrients in bone then there is calcium, eat all types of healthy organic Natural foods and drinks, clean water, weightbearing movements that put stress on your bones to build more bone, sunlight for vitamin D good, just dont completely overdue it, get enough sleep, stress less, etc, avoid alcohol, drugs and doctor medication, nodern medicine for yout health is a lie lol, staying young looking longer fighting aging is another benefit too, im 30 still looking 15 💪

  7. My right leg / hip shows Osteopenia and my doctor did not say anything to me. I cannot bend my knee anymore.

  8. Will the weighted vest when walking cause me to slouch and f- up my posture?

  9. Find me any SOY food or supplement that is not genetically altered.

  10. what does it mean "bone density in mid twenty" in terms of T-index?

  11. Yes i did !! I reversed my osteoporosis ….by hard physio work ….was -3 to -2.1 …no drugs

  12. Great luxury to limit work to 90 minutes!

  13. I am 66 years old and diagnosed with osteoporosis age 50 and would not accept taking meds. Two years ago age 64 my scan revealed osteopenia which I was thrilled about and know it was due to heavy dancing on a regular basis. Three years later more sluggish and was sick a few times so testing shows osteoporosis again. I will correct this without meds as not into them and stopped calcium years ago useless. Also unable to lift weight hands as both were broken and now suffering horrible but put a weight over my hands onto lower arm and lift up and hope it will do something. And will find high energy dancing buddies as my friends are now seniors and would rather sit then dance, hike, etc. Wishing all of you great health — life is short and every moment counts!

  14. You need to interview Dr Doug Lucas. The answer is yes, you need a plan. Lifestyle and diet and supplements are key.

  15. Australian contennt please

  16. Is physiotherapy can help us to treat ostpenia

  17. – diet. Vitamin d foods
    – vitamin k
    – calcium from food not supplement
    – weight bearing exercise

  18. The irony is weight training destroys cartilage overtime. They have spent billions on exploring space. But not even 30% of that money on regenerating cartilage research😢

  19. Swimming stresses the bones, bc it's like lifting weights.

  20. How stupid…! These ignorant people give their body the super toxic OXALATES 😡😡😡

  21. Both of them are very good looking.

  22. Bone Support Capsules are amazing! They have helped with my arthritis pain and improved my overall joint health.

  23. You can reverse osteoporosis, my wife did it. She quit alcohol, refined sugar and all processed food including bread, cookies, cakes etc. she did resistance training 3x a week and daily walking. Within one year she did a deca scan and her doctor was amazed at her T score.

  24. Wait what are the drugs?

  25. I would never listen to this Dr about anything about nutrition. She is bought and sold by pharmaceuticals and food co. Gave up her medical career to dress up like a movie star on tv!

  26. Im 59 year's, I'm having excruciating pain on left hip. Scan showed osteopaenia, what can I do to relieve this and probably reverse it without having to undergo surgery.

  27. Very informative video! Bone density issues are concerning, but Channel and Doctor offer practical solutions. Witnessing my grandfather's bone health improve with Planet Ayurveda's supplements is inspiring. Here's to stronger bones! 💪

  28. That’s a lie! You can build bone at any age. Particularly on carnivore diet! Stop lying you awful woman

  29. The Coral Calcium Complex by Planet Ayurveda helps improve bone density and strength.

  30. I have been a faithful exerciizer for literally 15 years and I mean almost daily. Yes weight bearing and my DEXA was -4.5!! Its no shoe in because I am a very heath conscious eater and daily supplement taker
    Your comments, please.

  31. Procrastination: untangle the conflicting emotions.

What is the difference between creating bone density and strengthening bones?

She said bone density increase is usually up into twenties, not in later age. I keep in mind that genetic differences matter. If you have immediate relatives who aged less at slower rates, maybe some people can into their 30s. Rare, I don't know. But IRL, I know people with different biological clocks.

  32. D3 5,000-10,000 daily, esp in winter. Have your number checked. Between 50-60 is a good number. It's nearly impossible to overdose on D3. K2 as MK7, not MK4. 100mg for every 5,000 of D3. Calcium citrate, not calcium carbonate. Vitamin A in foods. eggs, liver, cheese, cod liver oil, butter. The older you are the more you need cholesterol, esp for your brain to fight dementia. Your brain needs cholesterol and is greatly made of cholesterol. Statins destroy K2, don't take them. If you're worried about high cholesterol have your LDL SMALL PARTICLE COUNT checked, your large particle LDL is harmless and this is what is usually checked, so this number is worthless. M Mason RN

  33. YOU MISSED MAGNESIUM! But so glad you noted K2, not just vitamin D.
Get to strength training, everyone 💪😎

  34. Why would any one listen to her? She is fake

  35. Hey ..theres the guy that had the affair and lost his job!!!!!

  36. 100% yes! Jumping rope can help. So can fasting and then weight lifting afterwards. Megan Ramos of The Fasting Method had osteopenia, and she’d fast for three days at a time, which increases growth hormone incredibly. Then on the third day she’d lift heavy before she ate. She reversed her osteopenia and built a lot of muscle. Vitamins D3 and K2 can also help, as can eating a meat-heavy diet with few carbs, especially sugar, processed food, and vegetable/seed oils.

  37. I can’t believe what you are saying about this because I have scoliosis and muscle spasms all the time and can’t support it
