spring is in full swing and we're keeping up that healthy habit momentum millions of people have been switching to a plant-based lifestyle in recent years and best-selling author dr ian smith is here to talk about his new book plant power flip your plate change your weight the simple four week plan dr ian smith thank you love the name of the book got a cheering section here and the book is a guide to to going out to a plant-based diet so let's break down the benefits for people yeah well you know i'd like to eat meat i've been eating meat for a long time you tease me about it but i just decided i wanted to actually start eating more plant-based i don't want to go completely vegetarian and vegan nothing wrong with that but i wanted to reduce my meat and my seafood still maintain some of it but also eat more plants to get some of these great benefits and by the way in four simple weeks you can do that you can do things like lower your cholesterol levels your blood pressure reduce your risk for certain types of cancer heart disease stroke diabetes increase your energy increase your mood and the beauty helps you lose weight but a lot of people worry about the protein intake they don't get think they don't get enough protein so how can they get enough protein in a diet like well people have to understand i'm a weightlifter like everybody else and i still eat plants for a lot of good protein it's not just meat protein it's also great plant protein so things like beans all types of beans kidney beans lima beans white beans black beans but also chickpeas lentils you can have chickpeas lentils you can have edamame you can have tofu here's the beauty of it you have higher amounts of protein with lower amounts of calorie and that's the ratio you want so you can get great protein with with a plant-based food but when someone says okay gonna go plant-based for a lot of people it just shuts them off i don't know how to get started so how do you even get started with a plant-based diet plant-based does not necessarily mean vegan or vegetarian just means you're a plant for you're eating more plant-based things so i believe it's very simple first of all start a few days a week of going mostly plant-based increase the amount of salad you consume that's an easy way to do it when you shop shop the perimeter of the store which has a lot of the produce and here's the other thing do a meatless monday right go meatless on monday that can help change your protein as we said to some things that are protein based as far as plants and also use meat as accents and not as the full meal all right so we have a meal plan you have set up here transitioning from week one all the way to week four that can help people lose weight and and go more plant-based so walk us through it yes here's the key by the way we want to go from eating 70 animal-based to eating 70 plant-based so it's a slow transition i think most americans still want to have their seafood and meat but still be more plant-based so this is it and these are the foods though they're simple foods so you can have waffles with some bacon you can have some popcorn as a snack oh this is week one this is week one right so we're having things we're still having some of the things that we like maybe bacon you can have some salmon you see your asparagus and your rice you can do brown rice if you like you can have your pasta with some turkey meatballs and of course you can always have guac and peppers this is great by the way and people have to understand something straight the idea is you want to exchange recipes okay so in my facebook group plant power i encourage people to join it you can actually exchange recipes so you can realize that eating plant-based and shopping plant-based is much easier and it's always good to have a partner when you do anything working out or eating like this that's right and this is week four an example for week four so what do we have yeah so what you see here is we start with cereal and we still have a quesadilla a cheese quesadilla okay this is not fully vegan but it's in some cases vegetarian there's still some dairy here if you like a salad here there's no meat sometimes you can add some seafood or meat and then we have our baked potato okay which always is always a great way to do it and lastly yes you're still going to have steak you know we like steak and some veggie chili and this is the way to go i want to encourage people to realize plant forward means you can still do it and as we talk all the time do it in moderation we like take don't throw me under the bus about to say but i do like steaks i am willing to try to plant power plant power it is out today make sure you go pick yourself up a copy and for more information about the This is a great idea. It doesn't have to be perfect, just better and this plan is much better for people rather than the Standard American Diet constantly.
I’m 62 and vegan 7 years. Just started my raw food journey 3 months ago. I gained weight while vegan due to eating a lot of starches—rice, pasta, potatoes, and beans. I want to get back down to my college weight of 120 pounds. Will take me approximately one year at 1 pound per week weight loss. At my age, that’s about as much weight as I can lose in a months time due to metabolism significantly slowing down for most people after age 60. It’s best in the long-run to let go of animal products because they clog arteries over time.

🍖🥩=💪
Meat as an accent/seasoning, not as a portion.
I like real cheese and eggs so I know going vegan for me isn’t an option… I do like plant based dishes and try to incorporate them into my diet weekly …
Like with anything we eat everything in moderation because anything can have an adverse effect
Plant based has changed my life for the best. Wish I had switched years ago. Highly recommended if you care about health.
It's wrong thinking human need to feed on meat. My Grand auntie was 100 percent vegetarian since she was 7. She lived up to 103 with no major health problems, barely get sick. Note that she lived in a small town in a poor country where medicine was not developed. Her business was selling herbal medicine and charity helping the poor. She passed because she wanted to, fasted for a clean body to die. She remembered every single name in the family, did not miss one.
Human body with long intestine/ colon supposed to be vegetarian. In nature any creature with short intestine are carnivore, like tiger, eagles, wolves…..in contrast long intestine creatures fed on plants, like elephant, horses, quail, chicken……
… So basically a generic "healthy" diet plan. Okay.
What this isn’t the prime Minister of Rhodesia
Meat is not bad for you, just be smart about it. For example, do grilled chicken, not deep fried buttermilk chicken. You also can’t eat burgers and bacon everyday. A lot of it is common sense
Humans are not meant to live on vegetation, without enough saturated fat you end up with dementia. Among other things. Have you ever read the ingredients for those “meat replacements “?
I’ve been plant based for over 6 years and have never felt healthier! 🎉I can never imagine going back
Meals look tasteless
Its called flexitarian. The concept has been around for years. These celebrity doctors act as though they just created it! I did this 20 plus years ago for 9 months. I do intend to do it again.
makes sense
most people don't see themselves going vegan but want to eat more plant based foods so flipping the plate sounds like a good way to put it
The plant based chicken nuggets taste like rubber
Having constant diarrhea doesn’t sound good. Half of my vegan friends have constant diarrhea, F**** gross
Yess sirrrr make this blow up
