there are six types of fatigue when it comes to chronic fatigue syndrome and in this video I'm going to break it down one by one to let you know exactly what they are and also what to do about it at the end of this video I'm also going to give you a free training which will literally help you combat all these different types of fatigue so you can get healthy and start living again let's get into it number six this is social fatigue now this is a huge one and if you think about it no one's really talking about this we have a lot of clients who maybe go to an event they go to a wedding they go to an engagement party or just a birthday party or even just a a cup of tea with a with a girlfriend and they're exhausted afterwards and they don't know why they're like I literally was only talking I was just talking like how is that a how can I be tied from that and so what we need to factor in is there's the cognitive load that happens when we're interacting with people right and particularly if you are at a low capacity or your brain and body is just simply not used to that stimulus of socializing it's a type of fatigue and so again what we want to do is make sure you incrementally start to socialize appropriately for where you're at in Your Capacity over time as you do more of that it will get better and you will start to be able to handle and adapt to those types of situations a lot better number five emotional fatigue now this kind of ties into social fatigue but this is entirely different too emotional fatigue is where we've been coming under emotional pressure right this is usually in a relationship usually potentially strained friendships particularly when you're going through something like chronic illness it is so common to lose so many friends because a lot of people just simply don't understand what you're going through they might even start to think that you're making it up that you're not a good friend that you don't care about them when the truth is that all you would love to do is be able to hang out with your friends and enjoy your time and you you simply can't right now okay and so emotional fatigue is that emotional burden that you're feeling and experiencing when you kind of feel out of control right this is also a violation of boundaries so if you're not good at setting boundaries and you're getting walked all over or you're a people pleaser you're going to be emotionally fatigued a lot of the time and until you fix that leaky bucket and this is how we look at it if you think about all these six and which you you'll know in a second what they all are there they either sealed buckets and everything's totally fine none of that's a problem and that's what we would say you know when you're recovered you know these won't be problems for you but if there's leaky if there's holes in the bucket let's say you're not good at boundaries and you know you keep saying yes to things that you want to say no to and you keep saying yes when you're not ready to do those things you you're going to be emotionally fatigued and so it's really important to check in with yourself your boundaries and are you honoring where you're at in your emotional capacity to give it's really really important and such a common theme that we see at CFS Health number four this one's this everyone knows this one you've experienced it this is physical fatigue and this is where you uh simply just you know doing physical activities it could be even just doing daily functional stuff around the house like cleaning uh making the bed vacuuming all those types of things have a strain on the body and now for a healthy person that's not a problem right a healthy person is going to vacuum the the floor and they might have a little sweat they might feel it in their arms and their their legs but they're not feeling physically exhausted and fatigued by it and again what we want to do is make sure we have a correct basine that is appropriate for where we're at so we can start to do things without feeling any worse than we currently do and when you do that you start to build repetition you start to build consistency and what happens then is your brain and body start to adapt appropriately to the stimulus that you give it and so if you're experiencing phys physical fatigue or a lot of that right now it could just be that you're overdoing it for where you're currently at it's a big one and a lot of people don't even realize they're doing it it's this push crash cycle that is so common and number three is it's a big one too and it doesn't get talked enough about which is hormonal fatigue now this is for men and women but I would say particularly women when it comes to their monthly cycle it's extremely fatiguing what a woman has to go through every single month in terms of their monthly cycle and if you think even a healthy person when you meet a a healthy woman who goes through their monthly cycle they will still say oh my God the week leading up to my that time of the month is exhausting like I feel tired I feel grumpy and then throughout that whole you know 5 to seven days it's another whole week where your your hormones are affected right and then you start to come out of it and it's this it's this cycle literally every single month it's the same kind of thing and if you think about someone who's going through chronic fatigue syndrome you really got to times the feeling that a normal healthy woman was would have to someone who's got chronic fatigue syndrome so 5x you know 10x the feelings the symptoms that a healthy person would experience with their monthly cycle it's way way more Amplified when your body and brain is already struggling right and so we need to we need to have extra precaution around this period we have uh we have a specific training inside our mentorship recovery and it's all about women's hormonal health and in that training we literally teach you how to you know how to maneuver and manufacture your Baseline around your cycle so that you can adapt appropriately right the the problem that a lot of people do is that they just keep trying to stick to the same routine and structure in that week and they just fall backwards every time because it's just too much for the body to handle the body you think about it your body is literally doing so much in that week right and so we need to factor that in really important hormonal fatigue number two this one is a big one and you might not even realize you're doing it it's cognitive fatigue and cognitive fatigue is really our cognition right it's our output of energy using our brain now these these activities are usually things like reading it can be watching uh you know TV or or videos like this on the internet it could be working it can be studying it can be even learning even if it's something that you like so one of the things again this is a perfect example we've had members you know who enroll in the mentorship and they watch every thing you know it's like a buffet there's literally like there's hundreds of different trainings on every every single thing about recovery possible and it's great but the problem is they cognitively overload themselves and then I say you need to have a break you don't need to watch every single video to get better you just need to watch the ones that you need right now implement it will help you do that and then you'll go to the next one and so you might catch yourself at home and doing that too where it's something you really want to learn or you want to devour hours of something and then like halfway through your brain's just like oh no I can't do this anymore and that's where we need to give ourselves a cognitive break uh cognitive overload is a real thing and we need to make sure that we're not doing that uh you know even when you're healthy it's important that you don't cognitively overload yourself uh and and be too content heavy and so you know again over time as you're aware of these things you won't do them as as often and you will start to reap the benefits of that coming in at number one uh this might surprise you and again this is never really talked about it's spiritual fatigue and it's not the woo woo spiritual that you might see on the internet what I'm talking about is almost like a identity crisis you're in the chasm between what you don't want and what you want right and so in that period of recovery there is this Gap and the Gap is quite uncertain right and I would call that spiritual fatigue that's where you're like I don't know what I want to do with my life this sucks I don't want to keep feeling this way but what but you know how am I going to create the new life that I want and so there is this real Chasm and there's this real gap between uh where you are now to where you want to be and we see it all the time this is why you know inside CFS Health we have our uplevel program which is called lifestyle integration and we help people when they're at this point we help them move into integrating into life and that's all about designing and creating a life that you want right and a lot of people don't think about this but it's so important you don't really want to go back to your old life that probably got you sick in the first place you want to create a h uh life and health and wellbeing that you feel really congruent in and it feels aligned and you get to grow and evolve as a human being and so we help people integrate into life that's that's why we call them lifestyle integrators and it's really special because spiritual fatigue starts to go away as you start to integrate into the life that you want right and so that might surpr a little bit and you know again it's all about coming back to you who you are who you want to be and really becoming your truest self and honoring that and as you can see all these different types of fatigue can affect uh you at any time and so it's just important to now be aware of it and go hm ah yeah that's that social fatigue ah yeah I'm cognitively overloading myself because I've just watched 10 hours of videoos straight don't do that now we have a free training called the Baseline uh framework training it's amazing it's literally helped thousands of people all around the world we get emails every single week saying oh my God this makes so much sense and thank you so much uh so please go and download download that right now uh it will be in the link in the description or you can just go to cfsh health.com SL Baseline and this will help you understand how to stop this these different types of fatigue affecting you every single day so you can create some consistency and then start to make progress hope this this video helps uh if it did leave a like uh on the video and comment below what was your biggest takeaway from this video which type of fatigue affects you the most and which ones you're going to become more aware of sending you all my love and speak to you soon

  1. Don’t forget to download our 9 do’s and dont’s PDF when it comes to symptoms! Link in the description!

  2. I'm so exhausted my me/CFS is exhausted 😅

  3. Oh dear, at the moment I struggle with all 6 types but maybe because of my adhd and because quit and lost last year many hobby/friend groups with my chronical illnesses social fatigue in puplic settings for more than in hour kills me.😅

  4. It's the first time I hear someone describe that gap!!! I didn't have words for it!

  5. Anyone have any advice on how to stave off death by poverty while being too exhausted to function properly? I had to quit my job and my time is running out rapidly.

  6. There is a massive loss of self as well.

  7. Gives explicit language to explain to others and identify things in myself. This goes beyond CFS. So many applications. Thank you for making these trainings available.

  8. Very well put, Toby! Thank you! That's what I'm experiencing.

  9. Thank you for another amazing and relevant video. It came at the right time. I would add environment fatigue, when you spend too much time in one place (bed, home…).

  10. yeh, sometimes there are more then one kind of fatigue that are all glommed together & then there are the specific ones that seem to be more at the forefront.

  11. Very helpful, thanks. I experienced exactly this different kinds of fatigue but it was relieving to hear this catagorisation from an expert. With the spiritual fatigue I had another "form". While I couldn´t do anything but laying around most time of the day I turned very much to meditation, prayer, visualisation etc. but not having anything I could do to ground myself as I could do in my old life like gardening, working, hiking etc. I "lifted of the ground" so much that I started to get weird sensations and at time was afraid I could get crazy. I simply was too focused on myself and on the spiritual realm. Actually it was quite scary. That´s when I started to read novels again, something I hadn´t done for decades because I always wanted to do something for my selfdevelopement. I simply needed something to draw away my attention from me. Plus I did some simple handicrafts I could do in bed to calm my mind and to stay in touch with this world. It showed me how important it is to find the right balance in life.

  12. So glad I watched this. Made me realize how far I've already come! Yay!

Had all of these and some were difficult to rid off, i.e. emotional fatigue. I had to really choose myself and my wellbeing over everything else and start thinking that it is none of my business what other people think of me. And that it is only me who is suffering at the end of the day if I go over my limits to please someone else.

So, this is a lesson I am really happy about. Said way too often yes in the past.

  13. Social fatigue was so bad for me last year. Even responding to WhatsApp messages could have been too much. And yes, this has to too with reduced mental capacity. Creatine helped me lots with that.

  14. Well presented. Makes sense. Please don't describe people as being "bad at setting boundaries". People have very deep seated reasons when it comes to boundaries which were formed in childhood. Most women have these regarding men, especially older women, whose expectations throughout life has been to put men first. Being told by you that they are "bad" at something only compounds the feeling that they/we are to blame. It's not our fault. Read Alex Howard's book entitled It's Not Your Fault.

  15. Thank you so much for your videos. There is so much to learn from these, but what resonates with me most is the cognitive fatigue. I am an artist and often exhausted after a painting session and now I know why and why I need to stop much earlier than I have been. As you can imagine I push, push, push myself through a painting session. thanks Jill🌹

  16. Making money out of sick people!

  17. Do you now drive to work in your Porsche as you`ve always dreamed of doing on the back of suffering people.
Become rich like me and join the CFS Healer programme and help others from suffering.

  18. Good to be reminded that they are all slightly different. So well expressed. Spiritual fatigue, in exactly the way you described it, is the one that I take away from this vid.

  19. Omg thank you for acknowledging how difficult the female cycle is on CFS.

  20. People can have lyme, co infections, gut imbalanace, so healing the gut is crutial, and we should not forget that all depend in what kind of circustames person is😊

  21. I can relate to Cognitive Fatigue:
Recently joining face book and discovering you- tube i have developed quite a lot of cognitive fatigue afterwards. Just as you mentioned after i stop it is "shocking " to discover it has been hours. It is a huge waste of my time not to mention the Cognitive Load' on my brain.Very good point!

  22. All the types of fatigue you have mentioned affect me . I will become more aware of spiritual fatigue. Thank you

  23. I like how you broke down the fatigue into different types! I was distinguishing between social, cognitive and physical and tried to cycle between these types of exertion. But you really brought to the forefront the hormonal aspect, a cycle that myself and my husband had become aware of but not categorized it specifically – it’s validating to see this as a specific fatigue and I’m going to acknowledge and treat it as such now, allowing accommodations for this. What blew my mind though was ‘spiritual’ fatigue, wow!!! I’m definitely in this CHASM and didn’t think of it as a type of fatigue. Nailed how I have been struggling about life in that one, and I’ll allow myself some grace and understanding about this being tiring in itself. Validating and helpful video, thank you!!!

  24. Spirital made sense acceptance is a big thing of where you are at. Physical/mental my biggest issues trying to work which doesnt work just doing chores around house difficult. Trying to exercise 10 minutes a day difficult to do on work days, days off im drained. Had bad insomnia which has really effected my tiredness/energy.

  25. Some type make me yawn and that's a lack of deep sleep. Some type makes me want to do a workout WITHOUT a video, but ill do what i want without choreography.

The lack of REM sleep fatigue is the worst of all and makes me mentally instable. I'm currently taking a workout break, because too much working out reduces my REM sleep.

The fatigue after a HIIT training is not fun, not going to be doing that anymore until I'm ok again with steady state cardio.

Because I track everything, I know myself better and feel an actual lack of dopamine or serotonin. I notice that when i watch Netflix at night i don't feel sleepy.

    Why? Too much dopamine.

Binge watching everything today and decided to not feel guilty anymore for listening to my body. My body is the boss and gets to decide.

I can say that because my healthy self doesn't suffer laziness. I have healthy dopamine levels when well rested.

  26. Im nearly better but today as an example I could not get out. I have been yawning none stop and just have enough energy to do basic things like make dinner. Thats all iv done. Im 7 years in now and rhe first few years where the worst. Intense 24/7 suffering. I am having bad days but functional. Not stuck in bed all day. I had good days on holiday where i went to a waterpark and went on nearly every ride. I honestly thought i was better but then still having P.E.M. so frustrating as i want this fully gone.

  27. Cognitive fatigue plagues me the most. It's hard when you're the one who used to run everything for everyone. The disassociation is real.

  28. No 1 Spiritual Fatigue in new to me, I had already worked out the others. It all makes sense as so many of your videos do. Thank you so very much. You are providing a valuable service to those of us with ME/CFS

  29. Thks so much for this video. I have been dumping on myself for not pushing through, now I will give myself permission to rest & not get overwhelmed. Another step forward. Love Mary McKenna 😍💖

  30. Make sure you've had your heart checked out properly.

  31. Farout, I literally struggle with all!!! 😬

  32. All of them and for me, the biggest one you just finished with is it. Spiritual and I recently told 2 women I felt a chasm.
Thanks I was doubting I had any of them before the video

  33. Yes! That’s what puts me off doing the training program as there’s so much and I become overwhelmed by it all…it’s so draining, I like to learn bit by bit 😅

  34. I am a full time carer. Not a week goes by I'm not having to do all chores and care for my husband. Appointments are regular every week some days 2 appointments in a day.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
I have a carer come in every morning.
We have a huge mortgage and come June I need to start work so we can afford to live

  35. I mean even healthy people can get exhausted socially . I know i do

  36. Spiritual fatigue can be very real especially if your a man or woman of faith We all cry Lord lord why have you forsaken me but in the morning the mist lifts with prayer and the help of holy spirit …

  37. I am dealing with physical and cognitive fatigue.

  38. Hi Toby
Really interesting how you break down the 6 types of fatigue. Been through all of them but what resonates most is spiritual fatigue. I have made a strong recovery physically from ME/CFS but am now left with this vacuum of ‘who am I?’ I think so much of this is because I feel at odds with societal norms and people. Would be interested to hear your take on this

  39. For me, social fatigue is what I'm noticing recently, and I'm not getting better at limiting time in these situations.
I'd like to add 2 more:
Food fatigue – I notice that some types of food and definitely the amount of food makes me tired after.
Sensory fatigue – like in a mall, some music. some movies.

  40. I am affected by all 6 types of fatigue. I hope to find something to offer hope. Thanks Toby!

  41. How about Enironmental fatigue? I jumped ahead for No.1 and wrote Enironmental and was quite surprised when you said Spiritual/identity! Food for thought! I shall try to become more aware of this aspect!

  42. All the 6 steps you mention, I firmly believe is the Holy Grail to Recovery 🙏
I practice step #1 each moment of my days to the best of my ability, the other 5 steps are given a helping hand the more I practice and become consistent with step #1 🙏
Your continued Guidance is Truly Appreciated and Gratefully Received 🙏
