[Music] hi Anwar oh hi welcome to this week's broadcast and today we're talking all about summer health and harmony and how to find the ROO way and during the summer season mm-hmm so David to tell us in Chinese traditional Chinese medicine all about summer health I think it's good to look at it from a traditional Chinese medicine point of view because especially in England a lot of people don't realize that there's two main strands of Chinese medicine one is someone like me traditional Chinese medicine where although I learnt it in in England I went to China and hone my skills but read another form called five elements and five elements is perhaps the majority of acupuncture is now England the practicing five elements and they focus on what the Chinese medicine called fire metal water wood the five elements which relate to the seasons of the like a cervical the Desai seasons in traditional Chinese are thrown up for this five season because they talk about the one we'll talk about next time after this one because now we're in fire that on that which is summer but one after this is not autumn it's light summer it's called earth so in next couple of months we'll be talking about about that one but now we're in the summer and this is the element of fire so although these relates to the year it can also relate to people remember last week we talked about the macro micro and you can talk about the organs within you so the fire organs are hard pericardium and small intestines question do you know what the pair are getting it is very card what about a card yep well the pericardium from a Chinese medicine point of view is called the heart protector okay it's a kind of an important thing so I think about it this is this is my translation from my master in China think about it like a swinging door you know I'm the doors on those Cowboys saloon Linda yeah so it's in front of the heart and it's protecting the heart so when something happens like a shock or sudden grief the pericardium should act like a protector and and protect the heart a little that's why sometimes if it's something to happen suddenly without warning it can get past the pair of the pericardium and hit the heart very hard okay so and I obviously have a more physical or emotional more of a physical emotional affecting you hate you much much deeper because it upsets the energy of the fire of the heart of the pericardium see I'm a small interesting so fire as well is more young than eunuchs yes so summer is young so we're at the fullest now of young this is young energy at its fullest okay so warm days well places it should be warm days not not always in dark in darkness here longer days lighter night earlier mornings so this is the young energy to its exuberant to its flown with the natural cycles we express or we feel or we experience more of those sort of emotions we should do and how we should the help of us remember last week we talked about the unity young you have that video the lack of the last one because this also can be the time when the energy swings out of balance remember I talked about the pendulum so yes this is the time when you should be happy and what's better than going for a walk in the country or sitting there and record by a river six seven o'clock at night and enjoy it's beautiful really nourishing and that's a wonderful fly feeling but also unfortunately for a lot people this is where they can swing the other way say and they can go into whatever you want to think the opposite of joy is depression dealing down lack of any lack of energy withdrawn that type of thing so also this can be if you're not on your way remember the flowing stream issue where you can go one way or the other and it's what you're saying then you're in the same way that if you're flowing correctly then you should experience feelings of joy excitement energy vitality during the summer but if if that goes out of balance or there's a greater propensity for that to go out of balance in the summer so emotionally that means you've got more clients coming to you with problems of fearlessly lack of energy feeling flak in terms of what they're about what about physical symptoms if there's an excess or deficiency in the yang fire so excess will normally show in things like lack of sleep so they'll say something like it's too hot at night really think it's a fire rate energy keeping them going they'll say I can't settle my mind the minds on overdrive running around it won't eat like a monkey mind on uncommon speaking yeah so and they can have more heat symptoms like inflammation of the joints skin irritations rap rushes and things like that so this is this is another young thing that can kind of almost take over this time of year okay so obviously I guess if you're suffering from those symptoms either emotional or physical you could come and have an acupuncture treatment or Virtusa local activities but there's 20 things people can do through it people listening to nurture and support the young fire energy the energy at their heart their energy the pericardium the small intestine for themselves during this season and so give us a few examples right so the first thing is to on stand what's going on remember my Chinese proverb you can't change what you don't understand so you have to understand the wind the fire element time now so your heart a energy is more volatile hi absolutely good be a good word it's neither good or bad but it's more likely to spark off all to go down it could that be mindful so it's about being mindful of that being in control of your energy and remember the golden rule you create your emotions you are not the victim of your love your emotions so if we're talking about emotional health it's very important to keep very focused because we're working on the heart and energy for your diet for instance it's obvious isn't it it's a perfect time you don't go and eat stews and and unmaking closely okay then they go this is more of a time to eat salad servants and cooling food and then they go there more young so they give you the balance so you get less thing like heartburn stomach upset stomach disorders burning and that type of thing you don't want to have that type of thing so you're thinking more about your diet another thing I'm sorry to tell you you gotta watch your alcohol intake over the semester and I'm not saying you can't go be exact or a nice cold busted why am I saying you know but doesn't necessarily cool the energy down not because alcohol is heating is yank so it's yarn okay so you don't be careful not to overdo it but body I'm not saying you can see by River and have a nice cold beer or a glass of wine but just be mindful of that keeping that balance that appropriateness of we call it so again it's being mindful being aware you can't change what you don't understand as understand this this is a time to have a steady head as you going through this wonderful time of year and to be out in nature and experience the exuberance of nature so if we're feeling more exuberant and energizes coming in we also want to tune to the exuberance and experience the wonder of being gay nature when it's at its fullest on the green and birds one yeah yeah yeah all the flowers are out I mean the are these early mornings I know it sounds a bit strange but try getting up early like 5 o'clock 5:30 6 o'clock it's just breaking down girl from walk-in in the country listen to the birds and if that doesn't list your heart there's no hope for you that isn't as a good point David because at this time of year really if we're to attune to the season the Sun is rising earlier and it's setting later so really we ought to be trying to get up a little bit earlier whether that's to experience nature or to get off day started off earlier and also make the most of the lighter evenings and you already do you got but at the same time to avoid this kind of excess this burn out this excess young you also need to be taking some power naps or some rest or groaning that's none and that none of us during the day to balance out these they're kind of to get to find about Leslie after you eat it's really good that if you're eat eating just to try and give yourself that 15 to 20 minutes afterwards to allow the food to digest particularly if you've been eating something that's a bit more heavy or greasy or something like like that just give yourself time to settle and make sure you keep cool and and relaxed and and and don't encourage this young building water there know when we're outside and enjoying nature it's also to be mindful that we do need to keep call that as much as it's great to get all the wonderful vitamin DS type sounds and smells of nature that we do need to not be outside in the sunshine too much stay in the shade keep hydrated these are all the I'm terribly sorry okay make sure you drink lots of water I'm terrible before that you would do anyway but actually without even knowing it you're balancing your the young fire energy out you're keeping it settles you'll stop and get from moving to it to excess and in you've named because a knight can a lot of people in the salon I know we get a lot more clients with sleep problems at this time of year making sure your your bedrooms cool and well-ventilated at nighttime you don't keep the heavy sheets on and all these are practical tips but you know some sometimes we just need to talk about it because we don't change the duvet and there's still got a heavy duvet on and things like that and then we get restless and then the mind gets into overdrive and the energy builds up but it's finding this appropriateness finding this balance also talking about your walk to the country and this is the time to be silly this is the time now but in carts actually actually to do dusting your ego same rifle things and go we see why they have all look I'm going to call it washable comment giggle go to a good granny leave Isaac have a good stance and live this energy and get this energy really working and going you know do some fun things if you've got children there's some you can do is of course is the inner smile meditation focused on the heart sending the love energy warmth and that smile that joyful smile to your heart and obviously you know we teach this being a smile the go is going to smile meditation and we have an mp3 recording on it more pop the link below on that as well and I try and do to teach in my classes because if I can you know chi gong classes because because it's such a powerful powerful meditation you standing as in a stance and you imagine like a sunbeam coming right into your heart sending yourself love and the the teaching is to hold that smile even though you don't get the connection and I'll give you the teaching the Taoist monk teaching you hold the smile until the heart smiles back you get that connection and especially this time we use a very important method you can do so if you haven't listened to it you gotta have a listen to that done meditation and if you're walking in the country put the earphones on and listen to it just let you know that sunshine and the birdsong and to realize how blessed we are so many of us worry about how stressed we are don't forget how blessed you are you are absolutely so the divine do
