Treatments for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome CFS/ME that you NEED to KNOW | Rheumatologist Dr. Micah Yu

In this video, we will talk about 5 Integrative Ways of Fighting Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It requires a multifaceted approach that addresses various interconnected factors contributing to the condition.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or CFS, is characterized by persistent fatigue that significantly impacts daily life and doesn't improve with rest.

While the exact cause of CFS is unknown, it's believed to involve a combination of factors such as immune system dysfunction, hormonal imbalances, psychological stress, and underlying health conditions.

Managing CFS often involves lifestyle modifications, including balanced nutrition, regular exercise, stress management techniques, and adequate rest.

Additionally, seeking support from healthcare professionals, such as doctors, therapists, and support groups, can provide valuable guidance and assistance in managing CFS symptoms and improving overall well-being.

With a comprehensive approach tailored to individual needs, individuals with CFS can work towards better managing their condition and enhancing their quality of life.

so this video is going to focus on fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome and I know that conventional medicine isn't great at treating fatigue so in this video I'm going to talk about different integrative ways that you can use to fight fatigue and chronic fatigue [Music] syndrome chronic fatigue syndrome is a problem that has affect Ed many different individuals and it's a topic that's extremely important because Long Haul Co has only added to the number of people with that problem according to the CDC there's about 800,000 to 2 and5 million Americans with chronic fatigue syndrome and this was according to a data from 2015 so I expect that number to be much higher today chronic physique syndrome affect fects women to men at a 4:1 ratio and when patients have fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome not only are they tired but sometimes it does come with brain fog joint aches memory problems changes in mood and low motivation so how many times have you gone to your doctor and told them that you are tired and fatigue and come with a satisfying answer or a treatment plan that can help with it I bet that not many of you will tell me that you've left satisfied from a clinic visit with a doctor to talk about fatigue and that's because in medicine there aren't many answers and solutions to fighting fatigue which is why I created this video to talk about the different holistic and integrative ways we can use to approach and fight fatigue so I want to ask you to watch to the end of this video and comment below on what ways you use to fight fatigue or chronic fatigue syndrome and if any of the ways that I talk about in this video resonates with you so let's talk about the different ways we can fight fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome first of all we have to make sure that the fatigue is not due to some underlying disease and if you watch my video here I do talk about the different possible underlying root causes that can cause fatigue and we also have to make sure the patient doesn't have underlying disease that can be causing the fatigue once we have R out the other conditions that are causing fatigue only then can we diagnos a patient with chronic fatigue syndrome now with that said let's move on to talk about the different ways we can fight fatigue so in this video I'll be talking about five holistic integrated ways to approach and fight fatigue and hopefully by the end of this video you'll have some answers that your regular doctor could not provide for you you all right number one the first step when we approach fatigue is we have to look at our own lifestyle are we eating a diet that is full of nutritious Whole Foods or are we eating food that is the void of nutrients such as chips cookies crackers we really have to look deep at our own lifestyle and diet are we having a lack of sleep due to our work schedule are we working graveyard shifts that can affect fatigue as well CU our body has has a circadium rhythm and if we're working too late working overnight then that might be an issue is there stress in our life that is causing the fatigue and what about medications there are certain medications that can have fatigue as a side effect and those can include anti-depressants anti-anxiety medications beta blockers to lower blood pressure and heart rate opioids for pain control and muscle relaxing as well and and the list does go on so we do have to look at the medications and you have to question your doctor and ask them if any of those medications that you're on is causing the fatigue if we notice any problems in these areas we have to address it and not just slap bandaids with medications help that to try to fix the fatigue that cuz I will tell you right now there is no magic conventional medication that can fix fatigue so we have to look within in our life life and our lifestyle to see what is missing here so that's step number one approach number two is we got to observe our environment are we having a lot of high Mercury food such as shellfish or do we have a lot of dental fillings that has a high Mercury content that could cont to high Mercury is there any lead exposure that we're exposed to that can lead to high heavy metal toxicity in our body because heavy metals is an overlooked cause that can cause fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome so we have to pay attention to that and also we have to look at the area that we're living in there are people out there that have carbon monoxide poisoning in their own home that they're not aware of and it could be a slow carbon monoxide leak in the home so we have to check our pipes and make sure that that's not happening because because if there is carbon monoxide poisoning not only will you have fatigue but you could Poss have headaches brain fog memory problems and the list goes on and on so please pay attention to that and how about environmental toxins are we constantly working with pesticides while gardening or working with pesticides um directly on a farm or near a farm is the place we're living at near a golf course because they spray a lot of pesticides as well is there constant exposure something called volatile organic compounds each of these things we need to look at in our environment and is there also mold exposure there that we're not aware of but if we are aware of we're not addressing it that's really important as well so that's how we look at things when it comes to functional and integrative medicine so if we're exposed to these enviral toxins we got to figure out ways to lower the exposure and sometimes s if we're living near a golf course for example it might not be practical to move away due to finances family so we got to find ways to lower the toxicity burden okay so here's the third way to approach fatigue and that's supplements so when I think of fatigue I think about the mitochondria and the mitochondria is the PowerHouse of our cell that's where ATP is is made and that's where we get our energy day in and day out it's through the mitochondria so you probably heard of this word in your elementary school high school or college biology and it is so important to the cell so don't forget about the mitochondria because if that is not working properly that can cause fatigue as well so when I think of the mitochondria and the supplements that can help with that I think of coins and Q10 lcarnitine and also NAD as well those are just some of the few supplements that can help with a mitochondria another aspect that we need to talk about are your adrenal glands and this is number four sometimes are do need that extra support and the way to help with that in stressful situations for example is through the use of adaptogens and if you haven't heard of adap before these are supplements that help with stress and by doing so it can help with fatigue as well because it also acts on adrenal glands and examples of different adaptions are as gandha holy basil and Rola each of these adaptions have their special use cases for example one might be better than the other depending on your situation in life so one of these adaptions might be better for someone that works too much that CA fatigue and they need something more stimulating others are more calming as well so we'll dive deeper into the different adaptogens in a later video well I'll dedicate a special video just to adaptogens cuz it's a huge topic all right here we go number five we got to look at nutrients some of us have micronutrient deficiencies we could be eating the best foods in the world but sometimes we're not having the best absorption in our body due to our gut microbiome we might have gut the biosis where a gut microbiome isn't imbalance and we have leaky gut so things I pay attention to with nutrient deficiencies are like vitamin C vitamin B all the different vitamin B's out there like B6 B12 B3 I also think sodium magnesium zinc folic acid ALC carnitine which I mentioned earlier tryptophan essential fatty acids selenium iron and also coenzyme Q10 these are just some examples of nutrients I think about so you can get these micronutrients tested different lbs out there can test B these and sometimes taking extra multivitamins a high quality multivitamin can help with these nutrient deficiencies as well because we're constantly bombarded by the enal toxins and it takes more nutrients in our body to fight off these Environ toxins for our body to function better so besides the gut micro biome we could have insults from the outside that causes us to use more nutrients than we're supposed to and these nutrient deficiencies can also lead to a leaky gut it can potentially affect a thyroid and thus lead to fatigue as well I know I mentioned five integrated ways we can fight fatigue but here's bonus number six and those are hormones we don't pay attention enough to our hormones and we want to do so we want to make sure our sex hormone glands such as progesterone estrogen testosterone are at an optimal level so you can potentially work with a OB gy doctor and a chronologist to get these checked but sometimes they won't listen to you and you might have to go to the extra mile and work with a functional medicine or integrated medicine doctor to take a look at them to see if they're out of balance and sometimes addressing these different hormones can fix the fatigue those are the different types of Integrative ways we can approach and fight fatigue hopefully with this video You're Now better equipped to fight fatigue and also have more knowledge to approach your doctor and if a doctor says that they don't have answers for you or the skull exercise more well you know that you probably have more knowledge than them now and you can be able to fight fatigue in different ways and if you're not satisfied with a conventional medicine doctor make an appointment with me or find someone in your area that can talk about integrated medicine because integrated medicine is so special so powerful and it can change people's lives when they're not happy with a conventional medical system with that said why don't you comment below and tell me what you think about this video and what ways you use to fight fatigue and please give me a like And subscribe as well and don't forget I do have a newsletter on my website my md.com where I do send out monthly tips and information on the latest events-based information on aomy diseases and integrated medicine thank you so much for watching this video and I'll see you guys next [Music] [Music] time

  2. I want an appointment from you. How can i approach you?

  3. Thank you for addressing this issue. I use to be a hyperactive person and constantly moving. Dancing. Cleaning house. Now none of the above. All I want to do is sleep. I am on the verge of quitting my job I've had for 26 yrs. (Medical field) but we are so broke due to inflation.

  4. i cured my chronic fatigue by following scott adams advice

  5. Ashwagandha Capsules by Planet Ayurveda support vitality and strengthen the body’s response to stress.

  6. I have tried several times to eat clean. At first it works well, but maybe 3 weeks in or so, and then my body totally wipes out and I become so weak and sleepy that I even feel shaky and very sick. At that point I eat whatever I want because it seems the best way to get out of the weeds. I wish I knew what was happening so I could fix myself!

  7. Chronic fatigue is NOT the same as ME/CFS which is its own specific disease. Mixing that up discredits the patients and doesn’t help anyone.

  8. Attention everyone: I tried to buy that daily 5 supplement s 14 day plan and the website would not accept my MasterCard gift card, fully funded! Buyer beware!

  9. I have chronic fatigue due to Lupus SLE and Fibromyalgia 😭

  10. thank you for your informative video 🙏

  11. I have CFS, everything else has been ruled out. I working with a holistic Dr for three yrs with no results. I recently just diagnosed myself; not one Dr in the 40+ yrs I have been dealing with this has ever mentioned CFS.

  12. It’s so refreshing to hear you talk abt integrated medicine! My rheumatologist told me I was wasting my time going gluten free & on autoimmune diet! We have a rheumatologist shortage in Utah & I’m very disheartened by him! If he has to spend more than 5min with a patient every 6mos, he acts like you’re taking up his precious time!!

  13. Doc, I'm 61 w/RA. Been eating clean for two months when I see changes?? Maybe long time because of age??

  14. Can you please talk aboit Hasimoto's? Thanks in advance.

  15. Thanks for sharing your experience. I was diagnosed with RA and Sjogrens around two months ago and I've been on medication ever since. Unfortunately my flares are still ongoing. I've started a "healthy diet", no salt no sugar, high fiber foods, nuts, lots of vegies and fruits with little amounts of meat every other week only for 6 weeks now but I still haven't felt better. I was feeling down lately because I'm trying to get better without substantial progress. However, your story gave me hope and motivated me to keep going. Thank you and please give us tips on daily lifestyle changes and useful exercise especially during flares.

  16. Looking forward to details as to stimulative vs relaxing Adaptogens! Thank you. (Very light sleeper here, dx’d PsA, and age 65)

  17. I really appreciate this content thank you for your services and lot of people need to hear this 👍🏾👍🏾…PLEASE FOLLOW AND SUBSCRIBE ‼️🙏

  18. I have recently started taking two magnesium before bed, and wow have I noticed the difference. sleeping and dreaming.

  19. Thanks for this video. I thought I was so tired from RA, but just recently I was diagnosed with HEART FAILURE, I'm on 6 meds and now I know why I was getting more and more tired, on top of it I have chronic sleep issues. I exercise daily ( walking) for 50 minutes , trying to eat healthy and take a nap if I need to. I'm blessed that I'm retired and can rest whenever I need to. ❤

  20. NAD+ is involved in one of the last stage of the Electron Chain Transport. But, NAD+ is so expensive.

  21. I send a lot of your videos over to my Dad who is currently debilitated in bed , last two days because of his hip Rumatoid, he hasn't had a flare up for a long time , he is on injections once a week , he eats all the wrong things , GMO soya oil latest introduction to his diet probably doing it . I threw it all out when I noticed because there is so much information out there to help including yours .
I don't have any illness and still don't desire GMO Or E numbers as a rule . It's quite exasperating , he didn't eat all day yesterday or today so case of wait till he can move again . If you have any tips for situations like this throw them this way , he strangely only started taking Boswallia supplement very recently that wouldn't course a rare response would it in a rare case ? 🤔

  22. I have learned over the years that sticking to a set bedtime and wake schedule has helped more than one might imagine. I am ready strict about this. Exercise is vital too. I love being outdoors for at least 30 minutes each day and I am not happy if this doesn't work out. I live in the Pacific Northwest and it rains a lot so a rain jacket ( or two) is necessary equipment here. Eating nutritious, non processed, gluten free food is on my menu daily. I still have fatigue, however, it would be far worse. Everyone is unique, so do what works best for you.

  23. It took years and years to even get a diagnosis. Doctors kept telling me "oh you're a mom, it's normal" No sir. This is not normal tiredness that is fixed by a good night's sleep. I have MCTD and Sjogrens and the fatigue can get so bad.

Change in diet helped. I used the AIP protocol as an elimination diet and after 6 months was able to pinpoint foods that exacerbated pain and fatigue. Working on pain helped with fatigue too (for me, gluten and nightshades). I got a reverse osmosis filter for the house.

I also use a turmeric/rhodiola/ashwaganda supplement when I feel myself getting run down has helped a lot both with the energy and brain fog. Turneric is anti-inflammatory and the others are adaptogens.

  24. Your video are very informative but am connecting from Jamaica 🇯🇲 I would really need your help

  25. Doc I'm a Ra patient It's been 5 years now ,can u help me to improve how to improve naturally

  26. I've always thought that with having RA and Hypothyroidism, these two are enough to cause chronic fatigue. I take Traxadone to help with my sleep. During the day, I'm more awake, once I get past the mornings. Thanks for your help always.

  27. Many people use Dr. Stephen Sinatra supplement stack that includes CoQ10, L-Carnitine, D-Ribose, and Magnesium described in his book Metabolic Cardiology. The objective is to boost ATP production in the mitos. Vegan diet are low in these nutrients.

  28. I am hoping to notice a difference with my liquid multivitamin I can report later.
