hi everybody welcome to tcm time that's traditional chinese medicine with me kathy young with 10 tcm tips so see think of the numbers to help you remember the tips so start with number one always remember that your heart is the most important your heart connects with your spirit so your spirit needs to be happy so the advice is to eat the foods that you really like when you eat the foods that you really like that makes you feel happy and you know when enough when you've had enough so you don't overeat the second think of your stomach and spleen the outer part and the inner part so think of taking care of stomach and spleen this is the earth element so earth like the core is warm so the second tip is to eat foods that are cooked the more cooked it is the easier it is to digest when you eat things from the fridge it's cold it's meant to preserve longer that means it's harder to digest you need a stomach fire that digests the fire helps you to digest the food and absorb its nutrients so think of three you have three two one poor portions so we have a quote that says in the morning eat like a king or a queen in the lunch eat like a prince or princess and at night eat like a poor person like you don't have enough food this is the best way to stomach and spleen energy is in early morning that's the best time when you can break down the food if you don't have an appetite in the morning wait till past 11 eleven is the start of the spleen channel and that will help you to properly digest soda three is three two one proportions four think of drinking four to eight glasses of water every day water is one of the most important medicines for your heart when you have enough water this keeps the fire cool this keeps your spirit cool and that helps to nourish your stomach so for four drink four to eight glasses of water every day five think of five a day this is one of the campaigns in uk to help people to eat five different colors of fruits and vegetables each day we have different organs that relate to different colors you have your yellow color for stomach and spleen as the earth element so the yellow color nourishes your stomach and spleen you have your heart which is the fire element that's the red color so red foods will nourish your heart and small intestine that also goes for your pericardium you have green for your liver and gallbladder this is the wood element so think of green is clean for your liver you have on a spleen that goes with stomach that's yellow you have your lungs which is the metal element that's the white color so foods like garlic onion pears apple this is good for nourishing your lungs you have lavs the kidneys the water element this is the blue or black color like blueberries blackberries seaweed and black sesame seeds so five think of five a day you have your five different tastes we talked about bitter for the heart spicy for the lungs sour for your liver spleen is sweet kidney is salty so think of fine think of number six the sixth tip let 6 pm be your last meal so try not to eat too much past 6 p.m think of when the sun sets traditionally everything cools down that means your digestive fire also cools down so you don't want to youtube path too far past six when the sun sets traditionally we don't eat so think of 6 p.m as a rough estimate when to when to form your last meal okay and remember to eat like a popper that's a poor person for that last meal for seven number tip number seven think of your ideal ph for your body it's between 7.35 to 7.45 a good alkaline body so in chinese medicine we often talk about eat your green vegetables remember green is clean for your body cream vegetables tend to be more alkaline alkaline means more yin when your body is more yin you can keep off bacteria yeasts and growth and also for the viruses so try to keep your body more on the inside so that's number seven ph between 7.35 to 7.45 number eight think of the rule try to eat only up to eighty percent full so this is the advice my mom's given me when you eat the 80 full it takes 20 minutes so science has shown takes 20 minutes before your mind registers that you're full when you eat the 80 then you you know you have that last 20 until you feel the fullness so when it eats to 80 think of your stomach like a washer like a laundry machine when you put in too much clothes it gets stuck so think of when you put in 80 full in your stomach that's like that washing machine that can turn when you put in 100 food it's harder to turn that laundry so that's number eight eat the 80 full and wait 20 minutes before you eat eat more number nine think of 9 out of 10 times try to say no to three things to point out that means every time you go out to restaurants their goal is different than your goal if your goal is health their goal is actually to be a little unhealthy to get you to eat more more salt more sugar more oils so those are things that will make your body heavy so we try to avoid those three things going out trying to avoid distraction so when you eat try not to watch tv try not to be distracted like working while you while you're eating this splits your mind and your mind is connected to your heart and then you don't have the peace to nourish that stomach to properly digest the third is try to avoid processed foods processed foods were made to preserve longer when we eat those foods first they're more denatured so they have less nutrition second because they're denatured it takes more energy to process those foods to get rid of the toxins so that's number nine nine out of ten times try to say no going out to being distracted while you eat and three avoid processed foods last one tenth tip think of 10 times when you're eating each bite that you eat try to chew 10 times this gives your body enough time to generate saliva digestion always starts in the mouth so chew 10 times during a meal and after a meal walk 10 steps so usually we have nowadays they say try to walk 10 000 steps i say try the first 10 steps and then see how far you get that helps all the energy to go down and help your stomach to flow so those are the 10 tips i hope you learned the connection between your heart the happiness in your heart and your stomach so thank you very much till next time this is tcm time keep letting your health turn
