could you recap just for folks what the 478 breath is just the format of it and then what it accomplishes because I did it earlier today and found it to be such a rapid State change mechanism the basic technique is to breathe quietly in through the nose to a count of four hold the breath for a count of seven and then forcibly blow air out through the mouth for a count of eight and repeat that for four breath Cycles when you're first learning it eventually you can go up to eight breath Cycles but no more than that and to do this religiously at least twice a day and the real effects come after doing this regularly for 4 to 6 weeks and they're really remarkable this is the most powerful method I found to access the relaxation response to and it's the most powerful anti-anxiety measure I've ever come across

I tried this earlier today because of extreme anxiety. My anxiety is so bad that I popped up out of my sleep (had been asleep approximately 30 minutes) and felt like I had done something wrong by being asleep! It most definitely worked for me and I’ll be doing it again as soon I finish my mashed potatoes and snuggle in the night.

Many “gurus” suggest doing this from 15min even up to a half hour to start the day. I wonder why he’s adamant about a “2 cycle” limit. Seems to me itd take a number of cycles just to get the rythm and timing down.🤷🏾

I've always found it difficult to exhale in eight seconds what I inhaled in four. Not breathing for seven seconds doesn't help, either. Not relaxing for me.

Why not more than 8 cycles?
I was taught this when I was in hosp at the age of 6 yo finding it very hard to fall asleep…Mum couldnt leave until I fell asleep, and im now 53, used it throughout my life – never forgot it
My mom taught me this back in the 70s (she was big into yoga) to help with dulling and even eliminating my regular headaches as a kid.
What helps me to sleep is to gradually increase the number of beats after 3 cycles in order to send to the brain the message that it’s safe. (For example, I go from 4-5-6 (3x) to 4-6-7 (3x) to 4-7-8 (3x). This transforms the fight or flight state into one of safety, therefore relaxation and sleep — which has arrived faster for me each time!
