Hugs + Smoothies,
Nikole xo
you know what no one tells you about are the
things that happen after you have a baby I feel like everyone talks about like what to expect when
expecting there's like a whole famous book on it but what to expect after you've expected and the
baby is here there are so many things by the way I'm doing my makeup right now getting ready there
are different things that happened for both my postpartum experiences one thing that really took
me by surprise is the fact that there is a open wound the size of a dinner plate did you know
that cuz I did not know that in my head I just thought baby comes out with the placenta and the
sack and everything and like you're good that's what grew and then it and it goes out and you're
good but that placenta was attached to your uterus and once it detaches there's a wound that needs
to now heal even if you do feel really good after you have a baby and you're like I'm going to get
back into my routine I feel like working out and walking you need to take it easy because your body
is healing this open wound in your body and if you do too much you can actually well that was a lot
you can actually cause more bleeding or bleeding to like increase so I know after I had both babies
I would visually oh my God hair everywhere we'll talk about that later and I'm the type of person
that is ready just to like go go go get back into it but I had to like give myself a visual of this
open wound in my body so I could remind myself to like take it easy and just chill with the newborn
enjoy that newborn bubble because it is just like the most magical relaxing time and you just take
it for granted in the moment and like it really is the best time yes you're healing but you also
just have the best excuse not excuse not that you need an excuse to relax as a human being but if
you're just someone like me that is always just like trying to feel productive and do too many
things at one time you can do nothing and that's okay like you have permission to rest and it's
kind of the oh there's my little guy crying I if you can hear him but that's Matt's problem right
now Mommy's doing her makeup and this is why they call that time like the fourth trimester because
after you have the baby it's not like you're like yeah I'm back to myself like done having
done being pregnant you are now in a new phase of you're not growing anymore but you are majorly
healing and I just don't think that there's enough support and emphasis and information about
this time that is just kind of like unique in itself and then that's not even talking about
if you have another complication like if you have C-section or if you have a large tear on your
perineum like those are just extra things to recover from that you might not think of when
leading up to birth and like don't stress yourself out a lot of things are just not in your control
things will be what it will be but good to have these in your mind so you can prep for them and
be aware but like the whole wound in your uterus that's that's everybody everybody can get that
this is a weird one and I've heard quite a few moms experience it and it's the Phantom kick so
after you have the baby obviously baby's been kicking around in your belly and you get used to
that like it just becomes part of your everyday life in such a weird way I remember being so
weirded out by like there's going to be a baby kicking inside of me but then it becomes like
part of your daily routine and you actually like look forward to it and it's like a good way
to help track if baby's healthy and doing well both of my kids had different patterns in terms
of movement you just start to expect them and something weird happens after you have a baby
is that you get those kick feelings even after baby isn't there anymore you'll just be like
doing going about your day and then all of a sudden you're like what what is and it's not in
my brain I mean it obviously is but like is it a muscle memory I'm not actually sure I need to
Google it and then speaking of phantom things Phantom screams in the shower like every time I
take a shower still to this day I'm like is there a baby screaming is there someone that needs me
and this is why even when we're resting we feel like someone is always needing us either we're
getting ghost kicks or we're hearing things in the shower and you know what else no one talks about
it's the whole body odor issue that happens after having a baby no one talks about this yet every
mom I talk to is like yeah yeah I stink and I used to be one of those people that could easily Rock
no deodorant and now you know how many of these I have stocked in my bathroom right now there's no
way I'd be able to go a day without deodorant I kid you not I just a smelly person from now on now
and the most annoying part is I live with a guy who does not even wear deodorant like he just does
doesn't stink and he does take three showers a day and here I'm walking around smelling like Shrek I
feel like an infomercial if you are also dealing with body odor right now these are two products
I highly recommend a good natural aluminum free deodorant this one it's like a roller one I will
link it down below it's amazing it's like the only one that I can use that I actually don't smell and
then one of these feminine washes guys it's not just the armpits that stink that's all I'm saying
you just feel unfresh everywhere and this stuff is the only thing cuz you you want to be careful what
you use in certain areas we don't want to be using perfumes and stuff this stuff I love it it's so
refreshing it keeps me fresh and it makes me feel not so stinky the hunger that I have postpartum is
unreal where are my chies I have to just basically survive off high protein snacks because I am
so hungry even in between like breakfast lunch and dinner everyone talks about you know being
hungry during pregnancy you got to eat for two but really if you actually look at how many extra
calories you have to eat while pregnant it's not that much it's like I think during the first
trimester it's like 150 extra calories which is like I don't know a chocolate bar I think what
happens is that there's like a hormone I'm not a doctor could be messing this up I think there's a
hormone that increases your like your hunger and your appetite while you're pregnant but personally
for me I actually kind of lost my appetite well pregnant nausea just feeling heavy and like like
you have no room in your stomach for anything else food was just not my favorite thing I
definitely had cravings while pregnant but it wasn't like I had an increased appetite I think
I probably ate more often just smaller meals but postpartum it's it's a lot add breastfeeding to
that by the way I got a blue egg from the farm oh I didn't even look before I put that in add
breastfeeding to that and you are just starving all the time like when I tell people yeah I'm
eating for two they look at me like I'm pregnant and I'm like no I'm like I'm breastfeeding so
I'm feeding another human and they are bigger than they were when they were in my belly so for
me that's eating for two and I'm just hungry all the time our chickpea blondies great little
protein snack I've been living off of these and then if you don't eat enough it affects your
milk supply it affects the stress levels and your hair will fall out yeah your hair it all falls out
after you have a baby they like they literally a hair just Fallen like I should have my hair back
but I'm trying to be cute for filming one thing I did not know was that if you experience postpartum
hair loss it's not right after you have a baby it's usually at about the four month Mark just
when you're starting to feel like a human being again your hair falls out did you know that
there are vitamins specifically made for the postpartum period this is the rituals essential
prenatal multivitamin that I've been taking since after I had Oakley everyone talks about making
sure that you're taking a prenatal when you're pregnant but no one really talks about what to
take after you've had the baby postpartum is more nutritional demanding on the body especially if
you're breastfeeding so making sure you're taking something that is specified for that stage of
life is so important as a mom of two it's really important for me to make sure that I'm taking care
of myself just as much as I am taking care of my little babies this one here from ritual has 15
key nutrients in it I also have a really sensitive stomach when it comes to taking multivitamins so
the fact that this has a delayed release capsule it's designed to be more gentle on the stomach you
can take it with or without food they also have this really cool flavor Essence tab inside you can
get different ones I got the mint they also have lemon I believe and it's so like it smells like
you just took a mint keeps your vitamins fresh but it's also just Pleasant to take and it
makes you like want to take it it's like when kids vitamins are flavored this is the adult
version when it comes to buying vitamins not all are equal so you really want to make sure
you're getting a good quality and I love that ritual has traceable ingredients you can find out
their sources their suppliers as well as studies behind all their ingredients so you actually
know what you're putting in your body they also have a very Innovative design that I've never seen
before they combine oily and dry ingredients all in one capsule so you just have to take fewer
pills use my link down below to get 25% off your first purchase and if you don't like ritual
within the first 30 days it's on them and in my opinion everyone should be taking a multivitamin
our food is just not what it used to be they have everything for whatever stage of life you are
in an essential Women's Multivitamin prenatal postnatal they got you covered the hor why can't I
say it hormonal the horon guys oh also your brain doesn't work after you have kids FYI mom brain
it's worse than pregnancy brain like I literally cannot it unless it's like about my kids I don't
remember so don't ask me hormonal changes that happen I remember hearing somewhere that women
have one of the biggest like surges or changes of hormones in their life during that period of
after they have a baby and you feel it like after you push that baby out something happens estrogen
and progesterone both drop which the internet says can lead to mood swings anxiety and feelings of
depression but then you also have an increase in oxytocin and that's like the Feelgood hormone
I feel like that also increases anytime you're bonding with baby and that's why like things
like skin to skin are so good which I had no idea about until I had my babies that just like
whether you're breastfeeding or Not skin to skin and being with your baby can actually help with
your mental health during that postpartum phase honestly really anytime I'm feeling a little like
in a eh mood I just like hang out with my kids and as long as they're not screaming it makes me
feel better so after I had Sage I felt like I was pretty chill my whole pregnancy with sage I was
just like really a happy calm person even though it was like during 2020 yeah that was fun with
Oakley I just felt different specifically during postpartum I had intense rage like like anything
would set me off poor Matt the amount of times I had to apolog not had to but I felt like I did
and just be like sorry Matt it's the hormones like I don't know what got over me but like I
just feel like a crazy person and everything makes me angry right now sometimes you're just
feeling like crying all the time and this is what is normally referred to as Baby Blues which you
want to make sure you are paying attention to how you're feeling because postpartum depression is
a real thing I did not experience that but I did experience baby blues and it can just feel really
heavy and sad and you just like cry for no reason and it's totally normal but you want to make sure
you are talking to the people around you about how you're feeling Journal I felt like that really
helped especially during my pregnancies but don't keep things in like even if you're just crying
and you know you're okay like talk to someone and let it out cuz it it does feel better and
also just hold your baby anytime I was feeling sad in those first couple months I would just like
have baby fall asleep on me do skin to skin like I was talking about and it is so healing both
physically and emotionally so we're just going to blame it on the hormones but you might just
feel a little emotionally unstable and that's okay that's just part of the experience of
giving birth intrusive thoughts there are things that pop up in your brain that literally
make you feel like you are going crazy things that you would never do or act like act upon or
just like not normal things that float around in your brain let me give you an example you're
carrying your baby down the stairs and you think what if I just slipped and fell and baby slipped
through my arms roll down the stairs head cracked open I have to go to the emergency room like it
gets gory and very descriptive and you're just like I wasn't thinking about that at all I was
just going downstairs to go get a diaper like it they are intrusive because they just you're going
about your daytoday life and all of a sudden it's like Bam Bam like these weird unnormal thoughts
and like I said the most important thing I feel like during postpartum is just having open
communication with the loved ones around you that you feel safe to talk about these things
and these thoughts that you might have because I feel like that just helps like release them
and not hold too much power to them if that makes sense it's kind of like when you're you know
say at a balcony maybe you're really high and you just thought like what if I slipped or what if I
dropped my phone like it's kind of like that but way more disturbing and just like really scary
unwelcome thoughts then you feel bad and guilty for even having these thoughts pop up in the
first place but they feel like un out of your control I'm actually loving all of the videos
on social media that I've been seeing talking about intrusive thoughts and just normalizing
it so that we don't feel crazy and like we're the only ones experiencing it because most people
experience it just no one talks about it those are all the things you're going to need for the red
seed that is going to come out of your body when you get not only your first period but sometimes
several periods after that I was the unfortunate person that got their period like the second month
after having my baby everyone's like you don't get your period if you're still breastfeeding or
you're not going to get it until like one year postpartum that's a lie I literally got mine 2
months postpartum with both babies and this time around it has been so heavy I'm actually doing
doing things to help my body like not have such intense periods because I used to be that person
that used a little like silicone cup that you're like oh I can't even notice it's in there you
just like empty it out if I used one of those it would literally swim out as soon as I stood
up and we had to bring in the big guns like I literally debated on getting the adult diapers
that you use like immediately after postpartum I thought about getting those because I was
having nightly accidents in my bed from leakage queue in the pad this is the thing that they like
it's embarrassing this is the thing that they put on your bed while you are pushing out a baby it's
like Fabric and it soaks up Liquid yeah I use this when I'm on my period now and so I don't ruin
my bed sheets or have to wash them every single night because they are so intense and you know
what my doctor said the only solution is birth control she said birth control or an IUD but why
is my body doing this she said you're just going to have periods like that and until menopause
which I did not take as an answer I'm actually working with the natural path and stuff on helping
support my body and calming down my heavy periods which has already been improving so I will talk
about that in another video the amount of pads and levels of pads I need to have now stocked in
my bathroom is insane I feel like I am a teenager getting my period for the first time it's a lot
so comment down below if you've also experienced like crazy intense heavy periods after you've had
your baby May and did they end up slowing down or are they just the same give me your tips what are
what are we doing because I can't live like this speaking of hormonal and body odor changes I'm
literally I don't know if you can see I'm like sweating like my body cannot regulate I feel
like until I'm done breastfeeding my hormones are just going to be all over the place don't
even talk to me about the hormone change that happens when you stop breastfeeding that is a
fun time too let's talk permanent body changes that happens everyone's like oh you're going
to you can bounce back like just work out eat healthy there are things that happen that you like
you physically cannot move your ribs back in so there's something that happens and I think it kind
of stays permanent for some people is rib flares your ribs actually flare out when you're pregnant
and I don't think they go fully back I remember hearing that it can take up to 2 years for your
body to go back to its original cotations state after pregnancy and by this I mean when you are
pregnant all of your organs are actually shifting there are videos you can see online of how much
your body moves and changes during pregnancy it's actually wild what the female body can go through
during this 9 month stage I remember even feeling really bloated and having digestive issues after
I had Sage this time around I feel like my body is finally like calm down a bit one thing I've
noticed is just like my actual ribs like I don't know if you can see like they are flared out
so like there used to be high-waisted skirts and stuff that I would wear and I just had to get
rid of them because there was no way that I was going to be able to actually fit into those like
no amount of weight loss was going to shrink my bones back to where they were before just like you
hear your shoe size increases that is definitely a thing my shoe size is bigger after having two
kids than previously and there's some shoes I literally cannot wear anymore so wait to buy your
expensive designer shoes after you have kids let's even see one of my favorite skirts like it's just
guys it's digging in it actually doesn't look bad it looks good it fits never mind but it used
to not fit now it does if you watch the video I did like months ago of like none of my clothes
fitting a year later they they're finally fitting so give yourself some Grace I think we all just
want things to happen really really fast and if you think about it it takes 9 months to grow a
baby it's going to take at least that to recover and feel like ourselves both babies it took me a
good year to feel like myself again so if you're in those like early postpartum stages and you're
like all over the place it's going to get better I promise and sleep will come you'll be able to fit
into clothes again honestly clothes are starting to feel exciting to buy and try on again in the
beginning I was like just whatat that's just stretchy bands that's all I do now by the way I
don't want this video to scare you and put fear in you about postpartum and having babies it
has been like the best thing ever I actually prefer postpartum over pregnancy these are just
things that I feel like no one talks about and I want to bring to the surface in today's video
and just give it to you real we're at that stage in our relationship breast changes even if you're
not breastfeeding your breasts go through such a transformation during pregnancy after birth it's
like a wild ride like everyone talks about like the bump changing a lot but no your upper half
crazy things happen things get larger darker vinier engorged if you're breastfeeding even if
you're not breastfeeding they the milk usually will still come and then you have to obviously
we off of that it's quite the transformation and I feel like not enough people talk about what
happens with them afterwards and I remember after I had Oakley I was shocked by how how quicker
my milk came in I guess after you have more kids like your milk comes in quicker at least
it did for me and it was so uncomfortable like he wasn't old enough yet to drink the amount that
I needed him to drink and then I ended up pumping which then tells your body to make more milk
and it makes it's just like the cycle so I had to like make sure I was only pumping a little bit
so I wasn't increasing my milk supply too much in terms of sizing I don't even know my bra size
right now I have probably three I think I have three different bra sizes in my underwear drawer
right now I don't think I've worn a regular bra in about four years also underwires they're not good
for you and the contractions that you get I didn't get this with my first apparently it happens after
second baby and it gets worse after each more baby you have does that make sense there are these
uterine contractions that happen when you are breastfeeding your newborn baby they're so painful
I was curled up in a ball the nurse had to come in with a heating pad she gave me some stuff to help
with the pain like it was so bad I did not expect it and these contractions basically are helping
your uterus contract back to its original shape which is going to help decrease bleeding but wow
that was a lot and even just like pumping and breastfeeding in general I feel like not enough
knowledge and attention is put on it it's kind of just like oh setting up the baby nursery and you
know am I going to tear but like are you going to be able to feed your baby if you are looking
to breastfeed maybe reaching out to a lactation consultant or if you have like your birthing team
like a doula or Midwife team asking them questions about breastfeeding and what that's going to look
like because let me tell you the first time I pum like legit felt like a cow what your nips
look like after you you're done pumping it was like a page out of the National Geographic
I tell you so I think just that in itself is a really crazy experience and journey and like I've
been breastfeeding now for like I don't know four years so I'm kind of used to it but a lot goes
on and you know things get lower and I have so many videos specifically about breastfeeding if
you're interested I will link those down below but just know that in itself is like something
in postpartum I feel like not enough people talk about your pelvic floor honestly I didn't even
know what this was until my late 20s basically is a really important muscle I think of it as
a tarp that holds up all of my organs both men and women have it after you have a baby the baby
basically tears through this pelvic floor muscle and then it can take some time to heal and build
up its strength again and why the pelvic floor is important is because it helps you have bowel
movements it helps you hold in your Ur in and a weak pelvic floor can lead to a lot of things
like incontinence and a lot of women I never luckily dealt with this but even things like
prolapse as well can be your uterus basically being too low and not supported I don't know
like the medical terms of it because I didn't actually experience it myself but what I did
do is after I had both my babies is I went to a pelvic floor therapist I actually went to her
during my pregnancy just like a couple times just to assess where my pelvic floor was before giving
birth and then after I think it was the 6 we Mark I went in I did a check to see how things are
going to see if there's anything like prolapse going on because a lot of times if you just go to
your regular doctor they're just like yeah you're good and they're not doing a thorough internal
check so they'll actually do an internal check you do breathing exercises and you will they teach
you different exercises they teach you different exercises to do in the comfort of your home
and honestly I didn't even do that many of them I felt like I could have been better at keeping
up with it but I noticed such a difference even just with having that feeling of having to
go pee all the time pelvic floor exercises can help you so much with that so if this is the
first time that you're hearing the term pelvic floor I highly recommend just doing your own
research about it learning what it is and if you're able to definitely book an appointment
with a pelvic floor physiotherapist it's going to go a very long way trust me don't forget

I think heavy periods if they were not that heavy before pregnancy are not normal. I would really recommend to consult several doctors to find a reason.
Personally I haven't experience this (because of long term breastfeeding and general luck), but I think it's important to advocate for yourself and try to find a reason.
Recovering for a c section was sooo un-magical or was that just me 👀
But thank you for sharing, I'm trying to take better care of my body for the sake of taking care of my current and future family and I appreciate any info I can get ❤
What an amazing dad. I wish I Have someone like that by my side. At least I had this book that helped me get through hard time. It's called Bornside Mama
I have everything ready for my second baby now because of this girl and book Bornside Mama. It helped me achieve everything

They really grow fast in that belly. Thank God that I had my husband and Bornside Mama book. Easiest birth ever
I did all kinds of things so I can have easy birth. so many tik told helped me and this book Bornside Mama
Yes, the stinkiness😢and hunger
I’m currently pregnant with my first and recently found you and LOVE your content! Appreciate you keeping it real about all the things to expect so much and talking about things a lot of people don’t talk about. 🫶🏻
My contractions the first few days after giving birth to my third child about took me out. Just as bad as labor contractions but for days 😅
Thank you for this video. I am one month postpartum and feeling all the feels. I experienced the baby blues but the hormone drop was difficult for me and adjusting and eating for breastfeeding is an adjustment for me. I appreciate discussing intrusive thoughts too I have been so afraid to talk about it as i don't want to be seen as unstable. Also, though I am so happy to have a newborn the newborn trenches are the same. Please talk about the trenches it would be super helpful!
Thanks for the honesty and information, I love you’re other videos, but ugh this one you’re energy and hand gestures are almost aggressive about it 😭
That is the realest thing ever as a mom hearing a phantom scream and thinking, does someone need me lol.
Maybe try eating some liver or taking liver supplements a week before your period to help with the heavy flow.
Its the smelly pits for me 😩 most annoying post-partum side-effect, plus fluctuating emotions
ALLAH AZZWAJAL is the true One and only GOD HE has no son , no associate, no partner HE is LORD of the heavens and the earth , CREATOR of all that exists, SUSTAINER, NOURISHER LORD of the worlds One and ONLY ALLAH
Are there any classes you recommend for breastfeeding ? Or videos? I had a rough time with my first. I had mastitis and almost ended up in the hospital with an abscess. Love your videos! Thank you .
I’m nearly 10 months pp, breastfeeding a milk monster and have been ‘full’ less times than I can count on one hand my whole postpartum. So hungry all the time!!!!
Thanks for talking about this.. our society act like giving birth and post is like a trip to the store
Intrusive thoughts: me going through the house during the night thinking that there may be a serisl killer in the house … Tough… And suoer scary…
Fellow Canadian here. Postpartum care in this country is abysmal. I had no idea what to expect after giving birth to my first and some things still surprised me after my second. I relate to so many of these points. Thanks so much for making this video!
Im glad I kept that pad from the hospital 😂 I have not gotten my period yet which is odd considering we mostly formula feed. But at least i have it for whenever that returns
Nikole! Thanks for making this video I am expecting my 2nd baby soon and you sharing your experience and things we go through postpartum helps to be mentally prepared that is okay to feel weird sometimes.
Those “intrusive thoughts” are your maternal instincts letting you know the extra dangers to your baby at that moment. It’s a biological instinct. They are a good thing. They are normal, and can be very useful. No need to feel guilty as that’s what your brain is supposed to be doing for you to be more prepared to care for a newborn. ❤❤❤❤
I got my period back the 2nd month pp also! I got an IUD about 12 weeks pp with my first and got it removed about 9 months later or so. Since then, my periods were really light, like lighter than prior to ever having babies. Currently pregnant with my 2nd and I don’t plan to get an iud or birth control so I’ll report back 😂
I wish i had seen this video before having babies, omg such positive energy and REAL perspective, loooved it🍁
Pray y'all above all else. For your wounds and baby and everything else in between. The One who made you and the baby and the whole process is always there to hear us and heal us.
