“So efficient and hushed are our brains in their day to day operations, we are apt to miss what an extraordinary and complicated achievement it is to feel mentally well. A mind in a healthy state is, in the background, continually performing a near-miraculous set of manoeuvres that underpin our moods of clear-sightedness and purpose. To appreciate what mental health might be (and therefore what its opposite involves), we might take a moment to consider some of what will be going on in the folds of an optimally-functioning mind…”

so efficient and hushed are our brains in their day-to-day operations we are apt to miss what an extraordinary and complicated achievement it is to feel mentally well a mind in a healthy state is in the background continually performing a near-miraculous set of maneuvers that underpin our moods of clear-sightedness and purpose to appreciate what mental health might be and therefore what its opposite involves we might take a moment to consider some of what will be going on in the folds of an optimally functioning mind first and foremost a healthy mind is an editing mind an organ that manages to sieve from thousands of stray dramatic disconcerting or horrifying thoughts those particular ideas and sensations that actively need to be entertained in order for us to direct our lives effectively partly this means keeping at bay punitive and critical judgments that might want to tell us repeatedly how disgraceful and appalling we are long after harshness has ceased to serve any useful purpose when we are interviewing for a new job or taking someone on a date a healthy mind doesn't force us to listen to inner voices that insist on our unworthiness it allows us to talk to ourselves as we would to a friend at the same time a healthy mind resists the pull of unfair comparisons it doesn't constantly allow the achievements and successes of others to throw us off course and reduce us to a state of bitter inadequacy it doesn't torture us by continually comparing our condition to that of people who have in reality had very different upbringings and trajectories through life a well-functioning mind recognizes the futility and cruelty of constantly finding fault with its own nature along the way a healthy mind keeps a judicious grip on the faucet of fear it knows that in theory there is an endless number of things that we could worry about a blood vessel might fail a scandal might erupt the plane's engines could shear from their wings but it has a good sense of the distinction between what could conceivably happen and what is in fact likely to happen and it is able to leave us in peace as regards the wilder eventualities of fate confident that awful things will either not unfold or could be dealt with ably enough if ever they did so a healthy mind avoids catastrophic imaginings it knows that there are broad and stable stone steps not a steep and slippery incline between itself and disaster a healthy mind has compartments with heavy doors that shut securely it can compartmentalize where it needs to not all thoughts belong at all moments while talking to a grandmother the mind prevents the emergence of images of last night's erotic fantasies while looking after a child it can repress its more cynical and misanthropic insights aberrant thoughts about jumping on a train line or harming oneself with a sharp knife can remain brief peculiar flashes rather than repetitive fixations a healthy mind has mastered the techniques of censorship a healthy mind can quieten its own buzzing preoccupations in order at times to focus on the world beyond itself it can be present and engaged with what and who is immediately around not everything it could feel has to be felt at every moment it can be a good listener a healthy mind combines an appropriate suspicion of certain people with a fundamental trust in humanity it can take an intelligent risk with a stranger it doesn't extrapolate from life's worst moments in order to destroy the possibility of anything good emerging with a new acquaintance a healthy mind knows how to hope it identifies and then hangs on tenaciously to a few reasons to keep going grounds for despair anger and sadness are of course all around but the healthy mind knows how to bracket negativity in the name of endurance it clings to evidence of what is still beautiful and kind it remembers to appreciate it can despite everything still look forward to a hot bath some dried fruit or dark chocolate a chat with a friend or a satisfying day of work it refuses to let itself be silenced by all the many sensible arguments in favor of rage and despondency outlining some of the features of a healthy mind helps us to identify what can go awry when we fall ill we should acknowledge the extent to which mental illness is ultimately as common and as essentially unshameful as its bodily counterpart true mental health involves a frank acceptance of how much ill health there will have to be in even the most ostensibly competent and meaningful life and we should be no more reluctant to seek help than we are when we develop a chest infection or a sore knee and should consider ourselves no less worthy of love and sympathy our online shop has a range of books and gifts that address the most important and often neglected areas of life click now to learn more you

  1. True …. but the main cause is when you're dad mom is gone and you didn't marry you lost friends along the way…. no touch with relatives…. you once worked in an office and chatted the whole day with coworkers now the office doesn't exist anymore…. you're all alone in the world no-one to tell your problems to…. you sit outside watching people go by and no-one comes to sit next to you and say a hello…. even your favourite movie stars are dead….

This is when Depression sets…. you wake up alone.. eat alone… sit alone… you start talking to yourself because you can't hear your own voice staying silent all day 😊

very hard to find a solution in this situation but there is hope in time…

    Times will change you
    You might find a partner
Some drink all day till dead..

  17. In contrast to public impressions, involuntary treatment is a staple of all medical care for severe and life-threatening conditions.
There are hundred thousands of people in urgent need of treatment and often refuse it.
Families and communities suffer because most not-affected populations think we are taking away basic human rights in a case of involuntary treatment.

Consider, for instance, an unconscious victim of a car accident who is severely injured. Do we wait on treatment? Do we wonder if the person really wants treatment? Of course not. Medical professionals simply proceed with the type of treatment that most individuals would choose in such a situation. Doctors and nurses opt to intervene to preserve life and restore health, as much as they are able. As the injured individual returns to normal consciousness, they can decide for themselves whether to accept or reject further treatment.
As of now we wait until a horrible act is revealed then we consider incarceration or hospitalization.
Unfortunately involuntary treatment raises the specter of coercive psychiatry, and the image of the psychiatrist as a power-hungry sadist. It revives and reinforces the hoary impression that the psychiatrist is an enforcer of social control rather than as a healer of the mind. And this is an image that very few psychiatrists wish to revisit.
We need prevention instead of punishment, crime and misery.
We need much more funds for faster research for more aimed mental treatment. We need to treat before the mental illness grows more since most mental illnesses are progressive.
We need to diminish sale of illicit drugs and alcohol and a drastic public education of all mental/addiction illnesses.
Please help millions by raising awareness and let’s take action and help US to heal. 95% of crime and reckless behavior is due temporary and chronic mental illnesses.
Please let me know how I can help.

Anosognosia, this is The inability to understand that you are ill. It is very common among the most severely mentally ill. They are unable to make an informed decision about treatment for their illness because they are not aware that the illness exists.
Unfortunately, mental health “advocates” and patient “autonomy” experts do not consider anosognosia in their treatment recommendations. For this reason, the most extreme of mentally ill individuals will never receive any care. All they need to do is say, “I’m not ill,” and their wishes are respected, even though it is obvious that they are indeed desperately ill—but unaware of it. Is that really autonomy? No. Because if these patients knew they were ill, they would actually seek out and demand treatment. It’s like refusing to do a blood test and letting patients believe they don’t have cancer. You are doing them no favors by allowing them to live a dangerous lie.
What happens when a mom is sick? What happens when her children and the entire family is traumatized and suffering and unable to escape the suffering as mom does crazy acts and remains untreated? What if she pulls out smoke detectors, nails windows shut, wallpapers with tin foil, hoards newspapers, and throws out all the food because “it all has poison in it?” What then?
Well it turns out that the family members have zero rights at all. Everything is about the rights of the mentally ill person to psychologically abuse, torture, endanger, and destroy the others and themself in the home. The ONLY escape for the family is perjury, lying to the court about homicidal or suicidal threats in order to get the family member a 72 hour hold and maybe—MAYBE a sweet, precious injection of antipsychotic that will bring a bit of normalcy until it wears off a month later.
Everything allows the mentally ill person to destroy the life of everyone and themself.

  23. Mental health has diminished in proportion to the rise of noise pollution. Bleeping alarms attack our central nervous system and cause the body to shut down to protect itself. Health and safety and reversing alarms are destroying mental health.

  24. If you’ve ever suffered through mental health battles, then I think you’ll be able to relate to the song in my most recent video. We’re not alone. We’re in this together 💚

  25. Most people have mental health problems.

    Because we live unnaturally.

Or better say: We DONT live.

We are forced to exist in a box when we were made to be free.

We sense the insanity of other people so we avoid them just so their insanity would not harm us.

Since people are everywhere,it is really hard to avoid them.

On top of it all the government, corporations, religions all want a piece of us on a daily basis.

They all demand that we give them money from our boxes or else they will make our lives very miserable.

(more miserable then we already are)

  26. ( REHAB TIME! ) MENTAL. EMOTIONAL AND PHYSCIAL SYMPTOM R MESSAGES. THEY R INFORMATION. THEY R NOT PERMANENT DIAGNOSIS FOR EU TO HAVE TO SPEND THE REST OF UR LIFE MANAGING.. FACTS OVA FEELINGS!

  27. Keeping it under control shows balance but from certain energies

  28. IS MENTAL HEALTH ABOUT BEING A MAN AND KNOWING WHEN SOMEONE IS ABUSING YOU.
WHERE A MAN SLEEPS AND REST….DOES HE CALL IT HOME.
WHAT SO EVER IS IN 1 MAN'S HOUSE, HOW LIKELY IS IT TO BE THAT ANOTHER MAN HAD OR HAS DECORATED HIS HOME IN THAT VERY SAME ATTIRE AND FASHION.
ARE MEN MENTALLY CHALLENGED BY INTERIOR DECORATION OR INTERIOR INFERIORITY.
DOES HE ALWAYS FEEL INSECURE ABOUT HIS TECHNIQUE.
    HIS APPROACH AND HIS CONVERSATION.
    A MAN'S MOOD IS DICTATED BY…
HE BEGINS TO BELIEVE IN PASSION AT THIS AGE BECAUSE….
A MAN FAILS TO EXPERIENCE FALLING IN LOVE BECAUSE…..
A MAN LEARNS TO APPRECIATE THE SUGGESTION OF OTHER MEN AS INSPIRATION OR INSIGHT INTO BETTER OVERALL PERFORMANCE BECAUSE…..
SO WHERE DOES A MAN BECOME MENTALLY CHALLENGED AND DISTURBED.
DOES HE CARE TO DISCUSS THAT.
AND HAS HE APPROVED OF HIMSELF AS BEING IN NEED OF SOME ASSISTANCE.

  29. Assessment within an ecological framework developed and documented to practice long before they arrived?

  30. Very well explained on mental health and its related supplements, my relative has been suffering from mental health problem and he start taken Planet Ayurveda Brahmi chyawanprash along with exercise, yogas and pranayams. Now he got too much improvement in health and concentration power.

  31. I think many people have confused ‘mental health’ issues with just simple emotions. Varying emotions is part of being human and perfectly normal, this is not a mental health issue. Clinical depression, various forms of psychosis, bipolar etc are real ‘mental health’ problems. The realities of life that some people have had to face and grapple with in the past – and even now, would make this snowflake generation crumble. We definitely need to speak up to friends and family if we are really struggling, but it has all become a bit fashionable to talk about so-called ‘mental health problems’, when in fact this is just Life and we have to just get on with it and face the difficulties down!

  32. I am an avid #MentalHealthAwareness advocate and spoken word performer, and I love this so much. I travel the country trying to bring that awareness on stages, in classrooms, hospitals, and on my YouTube channel, so I get excited when I see other advocates. 💙❤
