2 exercises to strengthen arthritic hips
Stronger hips for less pain 🙌🏼
As a physical therapist I have seen first hand how powerful strengthening can be for hip osteoarthritis 👀
When it comes to hip arthritis- the two priorities are range of motion and strength of the muscles surrounding the joint ✌🏼
Both of these exercises actually work both of these 👏🏼
Many times people have difficulty with sideways motion due to hip tightness and pain. Practicing this movement in a controlled manor can really be helpful not only for mobility but also working the muscles responsible for that direction ✅
Building up hip musculature involves building up tolerance to supporting full body weight on each leg. This helps to build stability of the joint 💪🏽
Both of these movements help to challenge weight bearing and allow the hip to start increasing the musculature responsible for supporting bodyweight 👀
This is actually the first step towards walking better too!
⚠️ Use support as needed to prevent pain, compensations and/or loss of balance ⚠️
Attempting anywhere from 5-15 of each movement may be a good place to start depending on your tolerance to activity 👀
