As a men’s health doctor and fitness activist, I’ve seen plenty of bizarre health habits for men over 40 come and go.
Many men have asked me if there are any real health hacks they should actually pay attention to.
So here it is.
My list of the 8 bizarre (but proven!) health habits for men over 40 outlines key habits, foods, and supplements that will give you the ultimate anti-aging benefits.

all right my friend welcome my name is Dr Anthony maldy I'm the founder here at the fitf project and I want to do something a little special in this video I want to cover the eight bizarre health habits that most guys over 40 aren't doing that they need to be doing and I just personally got fed up looking around the internet at all these different list posts and there would be all these lists of healthy habits and they were just super generic it was like eat your vegetables drink more water exercise like duh like we all know that stuff so I want to put together a truly interesting list of eight unconventional and bizarre health habits that you may not be doing right now that when you do apply these into your routine you're going to see better fat burning better energy and just better overall health these are truly interesting I think you're going to learn a ton let's dive into this video Let's cover these eight bizarre health habits and I know you're going to learn a ton I'll see you on the [Music] inside fitf father pro.com all right so B our health habit number one drink more green tea now a lot of us have heard that green tea is a healthy drink but most guys don't know that green tea is perhaps the number one anti-aging beverage that guys over 40 need to be consuming why well green tea has a special compound in it called egcg which has a long chemical name that's spelled out here but essentially what this is this is a master antioxidant that helps protect your DNA reverse aging fight cancer burn fat give give you energy and the list goes on and on and on and we just want to be having more green tea so the key is what I do every morning I recommend all the guys here at the fit follow project do is that every morning you boil some hot water and pour a big old glass of green tea that you drink throughout the day that ensures that you get this into your diet and you will see you're going to have better energy you're going to burn more fat and it's just going to keep you healthy longterm green tea is the anti-aging drink all right so bizarre Health habit number two is turn your phone off or at least down in terms of the brightness after 5:00 p.m. now a lot of people don't know but phones emit a special kind of light called blue light and what blue light does is it shines into our eyes and it tricks our brain to feeling like it's always daytime and it's always alert and our brains are actually hardwired that around 5:00 p.m. when the sun's starting to go down our brains naturally are very sensitive to Blue Light and when blue light comes in it disrupts our natural production of the restfulness hormone called melat tonin that helps wind our bodies down and helps us sleep better but now we have these cell phones and we have our computer screens and our TVs that are blasting blue light constantly into our eyes which essentially prevents our brains from secreting the right amount of melatonin to help us get restful sleep and restful sleep is the foundation of lifelong health I mean it's the foundation of anti-aging it's the time when our body gets to recover and repair our DNA you know rejuvenate our cells and if we're messing things up with phones and all that blue light we really screw all sorts of stuff up so a couple options number one if you have an iPhone there's a mode on the iPhone called night shift you can turn it on and it removes the blue light from your screen and the screen will look kind of like orange and ambery and it just doesn't have the blue light and that's a lot better for your eyes option two you know just turn the phone off get it out there read a book you know don't stare at the TV late at night that's a super important Health habit that will truly increase your health and you'll notice that when you start doing that you'll have more energy in the morning cuz you're Arcadian rhythm is going to be a lot more balanced and if you work long hours on the computer like me you can install applications onto your computer like f.lux um and I'm sure there's other applications but we'll link that here um that enables you to dim the screen on your laptop or your computer and remove the blue light so get rid of the blue light put the phone away or turn it on that night shift mode and that'll really help preserve your natural melatonin production give you more wrestle Streep and more morning energy bizarre Health habit number three strength train to live longer now a lot of guys think of strength training and lifting weights is just building muscle and it's something that you want to do if you want to get a little bigger but that couldn't be farther from the truth strength training is actually one of the best anti-aging things that we can do and it keeps our cells young it helps our bodies uh develop resistance to free radicals which damage our DNA and it also keeps our metabolic engines and our metabolisms really high we strength train that maintains our hormones like to testosterone which starts decreasing dramatically after age 35 and at that point we can lose up to 5% of our muscle mass every few years and as that decreases your metabolism decreases you start getting more fat and your risk for all sorts of diseases starts to increase so regular strength training helps maintain your metabolism helps increase your body's resistance to free radicals which damage your DNA and cause cancer it increases your hormones like testosterone and growth hormone and it keeps you mobile and strong so I want you to really start thinking about strength training as 24-minute workout of ours three times per week to space those benefits out throughout the week so that simple strength train to live longer bizarre Health habit number four have a salad for lunch every single day now this is interesting because this is really not about the fact that salads are good because they're lower calorie options the reason why this is actually a bizarre Health habit is because having a salad for lunch is actually proven to give your body all the necessary insoluble fiber plant fiber that's not digested and broken down by your body to help keep your whole intestinal tract really healthy to help lower your cholesterol levels and to help keep your blood sugar extremely stable during the middle of the day when most people have this kind of energy dip what happens is if we don't have a a meal like salad that stabilizes our blood sugar in the middle of the day when our Energy starts to dip at around 2 3:00 we turn to snacks and we overeat at dinner and these are the true things that really damage our health so by simply having a salad in the middle of the day with some protein and some greens keeps your blood sugars level stable and there is research from National Geographic and a really cool guy named Daniel Daniel buter that shows that people that have a lot of plants in their diet and primarily plant based diets live longer than meat eaters and enjoy more Health now here at the fit follow project we are not afraid of having a steak and having some protein we find the healthy Middle Ground you can have a protein at dinner but it's really great in the middle of the day to have a plant-based meal with a lot of good salads nuts seeds and you can throw some protein on there too fish is a great option as well on that salad so that is a habit that is going to control your calories in the middle of the day and really increase your longevity and super simple you can find a salad anywhere so start applying that into your routine today bizarre Health habit number five do a Sunday 24-hour fast now this is something that if it's one of my missions in life is I want to spread the word about how beneficial and important fasting is for your health for your fat burning uh for your brain Health and Longevity and just for your body's ability to detoxify and actually reverse aging research has found that short fasting is perhaps the number number one way to turn back the clock into unwind cellular aging because our bodies are actually built to take breaks from food we're hardwired to go periods of time where we don't eat and when we don't eat what happens is our body raises growth hormone naturally over a 24-hour fast growth hormone increases over 1, 1600% above Baseline crazy right natural growth hormone increases just from not eating because our bodies when we have this break from eating we use the growth hormone to just regenerate our cells to burn a ton of fat and fasting is actually proven to rebuild brain cells which we didn't think was possible it's a process called denovo neurogenesis new neurons all that comes from fasting so here's the health hack every Sunday I want you to do 24-hour fast so Saturday you have a nice dinner with your family and then on Sunday drink your green tea and simply skip breakfast skip lunch and then fast until dinner that's it really super simple for me my my Sundays and doing my 24-hour fast is a super restorative time to just wrap up the week to rest to reflect to pray to read to get some work done and because I just drink the green tea and a lot of water I'm not even that hungry and I know that all these amazing benefits are happening inside my body I recommend every human um in Western culture that has the ability to do this do at least one 24-hour fast per week um obviously check with your own physician to make sure you're healthy enough to fast and it works with your body um but just know from the research that fasting can be an extremely beneficial Health habit that you can incorporate into your routine for Better Health and better longevity I hope you enjoy that one definitely start applying bizarre Health habit number six meditate for at least 5 minutes daily the new research on meditation is just blowing my mind meditation is not just a place to find inner peace and less stress the research actually shows that meditation builds new brain cells helps prevent and even reverse cognitive degeneration things like Alzheimer's and Dementia these things that we're really worried about as we get older and you know we've seen our parents and and their health slip and their brain slip meditation can be your buffer to maintain a sharp brain because all the other health habits we've talked about are really primarily great at maintaining a a really healthy body like the green tea the fasting definitely helps your brain so does the lifting but meditation is rocket fuel for your brain health and you don't need a ton of time you just need to be consistent so I recommend carving out 5 minutes either first in the morning and first thing at night to just set aside some time to just relax I like to personally lay on my back and just breathe watch my breath and just be still that's all it takes just do less for 5 minutes set a timer enjoy that meditation time and just know that your brain is going to be reaping these benefits of meditation and at the end I personally like to get an added benefit by doing a little gratitude journaling which is also proven that gratefulness in cultivating a practice of journaling the things you're grateful for also improves your mood improves your outlook on life lowers stress hormones so Meditation Plus gratefulness is the superpower to really have a healthy happy brain which equals healthy happy and long life so definitely start doing some meditation if you're not doing that already really powerful Health habit Health habit number seven is to do the golden seven supplements now there are so many supplements out there and it can be confusing about which ones to take well it turns out from the research that there are 7 to 10 coures supplements but I'm pairing it down to seven here for the P purposes of this video that you should be taking that are research proven to increase your metabolism to help you live longer to help you live stronger and happier here they are sub number one vitamin D3 people need more vitamin D3 typically 1,000 to 5,000 IUS is a good starting point for people who have not been supplementing and vitamin D3 has been proven to increase your immune system to fight cancer to raise testosterone levels to even burn fat it's just like a master hormone and a master vitamin that we need more in our body and people are typically deficient number two as a guy as we get older we want to have some DHEA which is one of these precursor hormones that is a really Master anti-aging hormone that helps us build muscle burn fat and actually increase our testosterone levels which as I mentioned naturally decline as we age combining dhaa with strength training is a way to supercharge your muscle building if you're a guy over 40 number three we want to have magnesium right before we go to bed so this is the real you know we've turned off the phone at around 5:00 P p.m or we're on airplane mode and then we we have some nice tea in the evening we do our meditation our gratitude journaling and then we have magnesium right before we go to bed 200 to 400 milligrams and when magnesium does is it relaxes our body relaxes our blood vessels helps us sleep better and it's just a really powerful supplement if you look even if you take a multivitamin most multivitamins don't even have 100% of your recommended daily intake of magnesium so it's something that we want to supplement on the side a really great food that I recommend including into your diet that has tons of magnesium is raw caca powder and that's something that here at the fit thing a lot of people have started to put uh turmeric powder all over their Foods on their salads but the problem is is that turmeric is very poorly absorbed by the body so it's good to have a really system is primarily based in our gut our GI tract so we want the right kind of probiotics and we need probiotic supplements to replace all the you know the good bacteria that we need in our diet so beautiful fish oil that you want to nourish your body so those are the actual research back supplements that are extremely effective for increasing your longevity and notice that all these supplements they increase your energy they increase your fat burning increase your muscle building because these are the ingredients our bodies need and often our diets are deficient so I recommend you get the social connections and the best relationships because really humans as social creatures we need to have great relationships to really be internally healthy we can do all the stuff with our eating and our exercise but unless we have a tight Social Circle and we have people that love and support us and people that we love and support our health will never be truly aligned and people with good loving relationships they live longer they have less stress and when they measure their stress hormones they're lower they have higher testosterone levels lower cortisol and they just live more full Rich lives so I know there are some people in your life that you truly love so maybe this is a challenge here for you today to write them a letter drop them a note give them a phone call tell them you love them and really just invest in those relationships and that's one kind of tribe family that's extremely important but also having like-minded guys like you and me and being an abandoned Brothers is #4 is a bad one. Ignore. You don’t know how long meat eaters live. Fiber is best avoided.
When drinking green tea, is it ok to mix in a little Mio water enhancer and apple cider vinegar, or will that negate the positive effects of the tea???
All good except the nutrition info which is 10 years out of date. Plants use chemical warfare to protect themselves from being eaten. Seed oils are dangerous and explain many modern diseases that were rare when humans used animal fat. Humans digestive systems are more like carnivores than omnivores.

What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul? Start in the Gospel of John, Proverbs, Psalms…….there is no substitute to a regular diet of the Word of God.
THe problem with supplements — that I'd love for you to address – is that they are not regulated. Curcumin for instance is often grown in places like India where soils are commonly tainted with heavy metals (though the product may be certified organic). I would love to take Curcumin, but not at the expense of ingesting lead along with it.

A great content the only thing I have a problem with is when you mention the word worry that is an Open Door to bad health we were born to achieve we're born to win we're not born to fear or have anxiety or worry that is one of the keys to longevity is not fearing warrior anxiety.
