took out $225,000 started this employment agency and I thought it was going to blow up immediately you know cuz I just had this dream and it blew up all right I lost everything 6 months went by I lost my house my car everything [Music] welcome back to the lifestyle design podcast and I am so excited for today's guest he is an incredible juicing inspiration he has survived cancer and he believes in holistic health and well-being Harold I am so glad to have you on the show how are you hey Coy I'm happy to be here I'm good I'm really really good well I was just inspired first of all from Instagram just following all your juice recipes and your inspiration and your energy you just have incredible energy but it wasn't always that way no no it wasn't no you had a fight with cancer yeah yeah cancer was fighting with me okay cancer was fighting with me yeah um back in 2015 I got the call that nobody ever wants to get you know and it was something that changed my life because you know when you hear those words cancer you know most people automatically think death yeah and uh and at the time my son I'm a single parent and my son was just going into a senior year of high school and my concern my I wasn't even worried about the can I was worried about how I was going to tell him how do I tell him that his only surviving parent now has cancer and one of the things I had to do I had to make sure that I was okay yeah because I knew that if I told him and I wasn't okay he would sense it and uh I remember just telling him you know about the diagnosis but I assured him that you know I was going to be okay yeah and I didn't know how but I just knew I was going to be okay and that really started me on a journey to figure out well how did this happen to me how did this happened and so I started doing research and even though I had three doctors I had a primary physician an oncologist a urologist none of them talked to me about how this happened and as I was doing my research everything pointed to what I was eating I had prostate cancer and research shows that prostate cancer is connected to things like Dairy and meat yeah those were the main things that were part of my diet right and once I got that information it was uh it was a no-brain I knew what I needed to do but it wasn't easy it wasn't easy to give up the things that I had always been eating for over 40 years it was like those things were familiar but I knew that I had to change right yeah and what was the first step because you got the diagnosis you're like I need to make a change so how did your change start by getting information right by getting new information and one of the things that I realize is that I had been fueling my body with poison for so long and what I know now is that food is medicine it can be Med it can be the strongest form of medicine or the slowest form of poison and for years I had been poisoning my body and as I was doing the research everything was pointing to food pointing to food and I started incorporating just fruits and vegetables into my diet I saw this YouTube video um get fat or die trying or something like that I can't remember but it was about you know changing your health through what you put in your body right and I just started slowly you know I I didn't you know stop eating you know meat and cheese and refin things overnight because again I was addicted to that that stuff and the stuff that they put in there makes it addictive and I was just so surprised that that so much of what is in our diet or in our Foods a lot of that stuff is banned in other countries right like a lot of these dies and other they're banned and I'm like wait a minute what's going on right and that's when I realized how important it was first to educate myself but also to become my own Advocate right because at the time I had three doctors I had a primary physician an oncologist and a urologist and none of them talked to me about causes and nothing none of them talked about healing all they talked about was surgery radiation and chemo that's it wow and um yeah it was and and for me cancer was a wakeup call you know and it was a blessing you know it was a blessing for me because what I know now is that pain is information and it was the information that I needed to make a change right yeah I love that and I love something that you said right before when we started filming was that you know Not only was cancer in your body but it was also in your mind and I want to bring that up because you know I've worked with um a couple people with cancer some of them who survived and some of them who didn't and that mindset changed and specifically my best friend it was deep-seated resentment right and it it it somehow was changing the cells can you speak a little bit about how it affected your mind and what you did yeah so always often tell people that for me cancer wasn't just about what I put in my body it was about what was going on up here and here and I had dealt with not dealt with so much trauma growing up right I grew up in the hood you know we were on welfare welfare my dad was addicted to Heron and he was abusive to my mom and I witnessed it and as a kid that was so traumatic I remember being in my room hearing my dad beat my mom and her crying and I would put the pillow over my head to try to pretend like it wasn't real and I remember the next day would happen my mom would have a black eye and we would act like nothing had happened and I would go to school traumatized so I never felt safe I was always afraid of what was going to happen next I was always insecure afraid and that carried on throughout my life until my four 40s until I got the diagnose and here's what would happen I would have experiences that were good experiences experiences and I would be afraid oh my God something bad is going to happen cuz I never felt safe I never felt secure I was just always in this fear mode right and I kept everything in MH and so what I know now is that that's the recipe for disease eating toxic foods and you have all this unhealed trauma that's creating stress in your body right that is the recipe for disease and I realized that I had to to to heal yeah I had to heal and part of that healing was therapy you know and a lot of times Black Folk don't want to talk about therapy black men in particular cuz we are taught to you know you got to be strong you can't show your emotions in the meantime we're killing ourselves right we're dying too soon yeah you know and uh therapy really helped me just unlock some stuff that I didn't even know that I was holding on to I don't know if you can share any of it but yeah with my dad right like with my dad like my mom had forgiven my dad they had divorced she had forgiven him and they had developed this strong bond you know they were really really close but I still had you know because I saw yeah and um and my dad passed um uh in 20 2019 and one of the things that I my therapist asked me to do was to write a letter to my dad and writing that letter to my dad really just brought up some stuff for me and one of the things like my dad was a gangster you know he's so drug I was not like that right you know and my dad I remember as a kid my dad was trying to encourage me to smoke weed I didn't want to that was not that wasn't me right and I remember the first line I wrote in the the letter to my dad I know I wasn't the son that you wanted and it broke my heart but it helped me to to heal right it broke my heart but it helped me to heal and sometimes you know healing we have to go through painful plac places in order to heal you know yes you have to go into the darkness to get to the light right and that acknowledgment you are acknowledging your pain so once you acknowledge it you can release it but if you don't acknowledge it's still sitting inside like sitting hey I'm here when are you going to pay attention to this pain right this hurt and then when you said that it was like right it released it released it from your body I think it's so powerful especially for people listening because they don't know where to start right like the food and people are doing more food now but those emotions those traumas from childhood if you don't do that I do what I call transformational letter writing when you write a letter saying exactly how you feel the anger the frustration I can't believe you did these things that gets it out and then writing an apology to yourself so did how did how did you reconcile and are you still working on reconciling and you know giving yourself the apology you need for what you endured during that time yeah yeah well you one of the things that my therapist helped me to understand was that two things can be true at the same time you know I wasn't the son that my dad wanted but he still loved me and she allowed me to see that he wasn't the dad that I I wanted right but I still loved him so that offered me great silence and peace you know and um it really helped me to to to release so much of what I had been holding on to and didn't even realize it cuz you know how we put on this mask and you know and that was me for so many years people would see me and never know what I was going through I went through two bankruptcy lost everything nobody knew what was going on because I showed up in places and spaces with this mask on right and what what that whole healing Journey for me did was it just freed me from freed me from that mass wow that's amazing well congratulations cuz I know myself and a lot of people listen going to remember like look however you feel get it out yeah you know be honest about it right you know and now I want to kind of talk a little bit about your books and your entrepreneurship journey and the businesses that you started and maybe the ones that didn't work and the ones that did can you talk a little bit about that because a lot of people want to be an entrepreneur but it ain't easy it it ain't easy no you you know Coy I started my first business when I was 29 but as a kid I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur right every apartment we lived in I would make my closet into an office and I would pretend like I was a businessman and I would uh read the the stock market I didn't know what I was reading but I knew that businessmen wrote at the stock market but I always knew that I wanted to be you know a businessman and not like my dad my dad was a pharmaceutical businessman but not the legal he's a street pharmacist that's what we used to call he was a street pharmacist right and uh so that was always my dream but I didn't know how I was going to get there um because I wasn't a great student I wasn't a great athlete so I never got the Applause to you know oh you can do anything I never got that that but that was always a dream I had and fortunately for me I got into a program called the upper bound program yeah I've heard of that I feel like I've been in the upper bound program the summer program or something it was a program for first generation college students low income uh and it was a program to introduce uh us to college the reality of college and that program really changed my life because it made me think about college because nobody in my family had ever gone to college and I went to college and I got a you know got a degree it took me longer than I was supposed to my mother didn't know much about college but she knew after four years I should have graduated but I was still there years later but I graduated I did what everyone else did I got a job and I didn't like it I and I wanted to you know I wanted to have my own because I worked at the Oakland Housing Authority and for my mother that was like an accomplishment I had a good government job you stayed there for 30 years but I kept hearing the folks there just complain about the job and waiting to retirement and I'm like I don't want to live my life like that yeah so I started an employment agency I took out a a a uh second mortgage on my home took out $25,000 started this employment agency and I thought it was going to blow up immediately you know cuz I just had this dream and it blew up all right I lost everything 6 months went by I lost my house my car everything are you ready to take your health and wellness to the next spite of losing everything and that business blew up it actually blew up to uh I ended up getting a big contract my first big contract was a million– dooll contract wow and I ended up being featured in Black Enterprise and Entrepreneur magazine and people thought I knew what I was doing but I didn't know what I was doing I was just I was just I was just following my dream and I was listening to that still Small Voice that tells you to do things you know and often it tells you to do things you don't want to do call this person go here and I had learned learn to move even while I was scared right and that was the key for me in business moving while I was scared cuz I was scared the entire time but people saw me from the outside looking in like you know thinking I had it going on but you know I was just listening to that still small voice oh I love that I love to call that voice Holy Spirit Divine guidance and a lot of times it's that voice though because that's where our purpose is I truly believe we're Spiritual Beings and our purpose purp is clear but then there's a lot of distractions right get off so as you as that business blew up what kind of was that before or after the cancer and how did that that was before cancer and what happened was because I still had all these unresolved issues that success didn't last because soon as success came it was so unfamiliar and I didn't feel worthy of the success I didn't feel worthy of the success and I was able to get the business to almost $4 million and the reason I was able to do that sometimes you can hustle your way to success I hustled my way to that success because I wanted to take care of my mom right I had a big why and so then my mom passed and I no longer had that why then I was just left to deal with me and I didn't I was looking at the success like it was was a fluke like this you know like like this was a fluke like and it was going to go away and when I started thinking that way things started to slowly decline right because that's where your mind was where my mind was that's where your energy was and then your reality just followed it right right right and what I didn't realize was that I was grieving also the death of my mom because my mom had passed and I lost my why and for about 10 years years I was just kind of going through the motions of life I would take my son to school pick him up I didn't I didn't have a business I wasn't working I remember my son at the time he was like in the first grade they asked him you know at school you know what what did your dad do for a living and my son said well he just drives me around I was like oh God I need to give me a life I said and uh but it was difficult because I didn't I wasn't dealing with the grief of my mom passing I remember watching my mom when my grandmother passed her mom and my mom just kept she got up and kept going and just like and that's what I did I didn't deal with you know the grief I just kept going and it showed up in my life um by me not being able to move forward with with anything and lack came and I lost everything I lost everything there was a point where me and my son we were catching the bus and and the most um embarrassing moment for me was I had to apply for food stamps and when I tell you that was like the lowest point of of my life you know um applying for food stamps here I am I had the successful business I had been in Black Enterprise entrepreneur and at that time I had a book my first book brother CEO and now I'm applying for welfare and um and I just was so so so lost and what happened for me I knew that I had to reprogram my mind I'm like what what do I need to do because sometimes when you're going through struggle and strife that's all you see and and if you that's all you see and focus on that's all you're going to experience and so I started to do what I did when I started that first business I started to work on my mindset and I would record myself say affir I would go to sleep listen listening to those affirmations so I could hear my voice telling me that I was going to to be okay that that was enough and um I started doing that and then I ended up moving right cuz sometimes you got to get out of that familiar place where that darkness is and I ended up moving uh back to California and it was like I started to to dream again mhm I started to dream again I started to get you know a picture of what I wanted to do but by this time I was in my 50s and I'm like okay what am I going what am I going to do and I kind of felt like my my time my moment had passed but but before but before I moved though um that was two years before I moved I gotten the diagnosis for for cancer and that's really another thing that prompted me to move because I wanted to be closer to my family in California but going going back home really was a rebirthing for me because it helped me to to Really heal and then it helped me to dream again right right that that homecoming is serious you know for me coming to Atlanta was kind of a homecoming and coming back to myself and when you did that what when did it start to turn around for you so I started thinking about okay what am I going to do with the rest of my life m what am I going to do I know I'm not built to work for anybody right so what am I going to do well how did you know that let's let's pause there because some people are just not equipped to work for other people I'm definitely I can work with people yeah I can too work great with people but I'm not good at working for people you know cuz I'm a creative and I like to create I like to create and make things and I get you know I like to to evolve and grow I don't like to be put in a box right right and but I will be put in a box if I have to you know in in in the meantime you know and so and that's what I did in California I got me one of those in the meantime jobs working with a nonprofit but then I started thinking about what do I want to do with my life right and what do I do with all the things that I've been through and one of the things that I realized was that having gone through cancer and having been healed from cancer I was like a lot of people aren't familiar with a lot of the information that I no right let me start sharing you know my experience so that's really what where it started I started a supplement company back in 2020 and a friend of mine was saying um that I needed to start doing videos and I'm like don't nobody want to see a 50y old D do video what am I going to do a video about yes we do and she said well what do you like and I said well you know I juice she said do a video on juicing and that's where where it started I started doing juicing videos and things just started for a long time nobody was watching my video maybe 10 20 people but I just started sharing the things that helped me on my healing journey and one of the things was was juicing and I started just kind of sharing my story and with the hopes that it would help other people because when you're on a healing Journey it could feel very lonely right you know and particularly um for example example when I was on my healing Journey people didn't understand the pain that I was going through cuz I looked okay right but I was dealing with excruciating pain every day for almost a year and I had incontinence erectile dysfunction I felt like my body had betrayed me wow and if you never experienced that you can't understand you know you can't understand it and I really wanted to use the painful experiences I had been through to help to encourage you know other folks who are on their Journey right that is so powerful and you're right A lot of times when you're in it you're like what am I supposed to do right but then as you figured it out I love that you took that really dark moment and turned it into something that was light for other people and now you have all these books how many PE books total so I I have four that's out now my fifth one will be out in June I am enough juicing 101 and my first one was brother Co I saw that that is incredible and in that book what was it what was your purpose with the brother CEO so the funny thing about that book so when I was in Black Enterprise back in I think it was 1998 or so I didn't realize they got Black Enterprise in prison so what happened was I started getting letters from guys in prison who had read my article and they wanted to know you know how to start their business when they got out of prison so I started getting all these letters and I couldn't write back to all of them so I said you know what I'm going to write a book I'm going to write a guide to share Brothers step by step of what I did to start this business so that's how that book came about that is incredible and that is brilliant like you you're like like you said you create and that's so brilliant like you said instead of thousand letters like having a book that you can send not only to those men but also men all over the world is absolutely incredible absolutely incredible so of all your books was what book is your favorite I am enough I am enough I love that this is one and this is how special I I believe there are no chances right I am enough when someone asked me when I wrote my first book they were like I was talking about limiting beliefs and I was asking everyone around the table what was their limiting belief and they were sharing and they turned to me like Coya what is your limiting belief now you have this book out and I said you know I struggle with feeling like I I am enough like no matter how many books that I've written no matter what like because of the oppression that I've experienced my entire life being woman being a black woman I always feel like I have to go above and beyond I have to do more and more and more just to be loved just to be validated so that is one thing I personally struggled with um so can you talk to us about what I am enough means to you yeah so just like you I I suffered with never feeling like I was enough even with success I never felt like I was enough I wouldn't got a Bachelor's degree and a master's degree I always thought they were going to make me feel something and I went and got a house and a car hoping that they would make me feel like and they never did and I realized that I never felt like I was enough I never felt like I was worthy I always felt like the success that I had was fleeting that it was going to leave me right um and for me I realized that it was just all of the the trauma and programming and and and and and never getting that you know you can do it and and having someone believe in me and I realized that oh that's my job J right that's my job and uh and when I was writing the book I wasn't writing it as a book M I was writing it to myself it was a letter it was letters to myself to help me reprogram recalibrate my mind because my default was I'm not enough you know you don't fit in you can't have that because you come from this your mom is this your dad is that you can't have this that's for those people those people are special and what I realize is that I used to make other people special to make me feel okay with where I was right yeah that's really deep and how do you feel like making other people feel special for you to feel okay how did that shift or has it shift or is it something you're still working on well you know what I realize now is everybody is our equal right nobody's more special than the other it took me a long time to to get to that place we all just have different purposes on this Earth but no purpose is greater than the other it's just different it's just different everybody's your equal and I didn't I didn't know that into I didn't know that I love that because it speaks to if you're putting someone up above you you also putting people below you and you also you know placing yourself in different places but if you see everyone is equal but just different gifts different talents different levels of how they want to express maybe in a big way maybe in a small way but everyone is still this beautiful emanation of the Divine and whatever they decide to do with their life it's just what it is I think that is so beautiful I think that's going to bless a lot of people listening and what are some other things you would advise like someone listening and and feeling like you know what I I don't feel like I'm enough and what would you advise them you know one one time I heard Susan Taylor say this she said you have to give yourself to yourself before you give yourself away M that's deep yeah give yourself to yourself before you give yourself away and for me what that looks like is every morning before I I get out of bed it's prayer meditation journaling you know um reading something inspirational to get get to put on my armor right you know I got to put on my armor because life is going to happen stuff is going to happen and it's so important that we take care of care of ourselves before we cuz so many of us are just rushing out rushing out and everything is hitting us and it's hitting us at our core because we haven't put on our armor right yeah I love that I love you got to take care of yourself before you take care of about this I mean a lot of people rush out and even though we know that get caught up in doing it again and again and again well you have an incredible life now if there was one thing you could change if you could change anything what would it be there was one thing I could change if there was one thing I could change I would I wish I would have en enjoyed this whole journey I wish I would have enjoyed the journey and that's what I strive to do now you know um that early earli success I didn't enjoyed I was worried stressed the whole time didn't know that success would quote unquote success would come again and um and then it happened um but my Angela once said you know your 50 is are everything you're supposed to be and I believe that they've it's been that for me that's inred and you're 57 right I'll be 57 in a couple of weeks in a couple of weeks when was your birthday June 17th June 17th yeah and so you are living your life that is so beautiful yeah yeah I I finally feel a sense of Freedom uhhuh that I never felt right in my 20s 30 you know and and purpose and um it feels amazing that's incredible and I now realize that everything that I went through was to get me to to this place that's beautiful so what's your goal like what can we look forward from you for the next let's say 10 years um you know I want to keep on doing what I'm doing okay I love being able to help educate um hopefully encourage people I think a lot of a lot of people just don't aren't conscious of what they're putting in their mouth right and I just want I just want people to to know now whether or not you change or do anything with it you know but I yeah I I my my my my goal is to to just raise awareness about about this Temple and how how sacred it is and how you know everything that we put in our body is either fighting disease or feeding it right and um we want to make sure that we're we're fighting it I love that thank you so much and last question if you could change the world and it it would be Harold's world what would it look like you know I would just want people to know two things MH that change is possible change is possible and that healing is possible yeah whether it's physical healing emotional healing yeah that is beautiful well 1. All thanks to Dr Ozuka on YouTube for helping me cure my herpes simplex with his herbal medicine

  2. After chemo, radiation, surgery and my last appt with my oncologist. The advice he said was eat more fresh vegetables

  3. I did not hear Mr. Lefall's give details of his wellness journey or give God the glory for his recovery. His story gives false hope because it is missing what should be the object of this life: The statement "What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?" is a question from the Bible, specifically from Jesus in the Gospel of Mark (Mark 8:36). It highlights the futility of prioritizing worldly success over spiritual well-being. It emphasizes that earthly gain is ultimately meaningless if it comes at the cost of a person's spiritual state or relationship with God. The question is also found in Matthew 16:26. Here's a breakdown of the key ideas:
    Worldly Gain:
The statement refers to the accumulation of wealth, fame, power, and other worldly possessions.
    Loss of Soul:
This signifies the loss of spiritual life, salvation, or relationship with God.
    Futility of Exchange:
The question implies that worldly success is not worth sacrificing one's spiritual well-being.

  6. I was wondering if he got any of the standard medicine treatments
Enjoy this very inspirational thank you
I too have breast cancer I declined the standard treatment but feel like I am standing all alone looking for a support group because I am not sure if I am doing the right things towards my health
    Thank you 🙏

  7. Apologizing to yourself that brought a tear to my eye however we also need to take accountability for our own sins in our own accountability and certain relationships going through. That process is also very healing.
