Minimalism and Mental Health
According Christopher Murray, “Minimalism is all about living with less. This includes less financial burdens such as debt and unnecessary expenses. For many minimalists, the philosophy is about getting rid of excess stuff and living life based on experiences rather than worldly possessions.” Think Marie Kondo.
Are minimalist happier? According Allison Michelle Dienstman, “The minimalist lifestyle won't look the same for everyone. You can bring more happiness into your life by slowly testing what you can live with and what you can live without. At the end of the day, minimalism is about creating the time, space and freedom to enjoy a more intentional, happier life.
So if you find yourself being anxious about life, try to question where that anxiety comes from. It might just be tied to unnecessary unrealistic expectations about what you think you should have. Because you might already have all you need to live a profound life and sound mental health. Stay well family.

Minimalism: A Documentary About The Important Things (Official Trailer)
hey there family peter gordon here thank you very much for clicking on this video which is titled minimalism and mental health [Music] now you're probably asking yourself i think you are anyway what exactly does minimalism have to do with mental health now allow me to explain and you're going to see how minimalism is really important to your overall mental health now if you ask me what minimalism is or who a minimalist is 10 years ago i would have told you nobody i wanted to know nor do i care about you see my little warp mine i thought a minimalist or people who practice minimalism were folks that lived off the grid you know they rejected technology in the spoils of life and they wanted a simple existence and all that good stuff they were everything i did not want you see for me i wanted things i wanted a fancy car i wanted a big house and i thought minimalism rejected all of those things and a lot of ways some people do right but then i started realizing and this happened to me right about 2018 when my divorce was finalized i started realizing that i no longer care that i couldn't understand why i no longer cared so much about things rather than i cared about experiences and my relationship with people and how those things brought me profound joy i started realizing that the time i spent with my child because remember now i no longer could see her every day i had to see her on a certain schedule so the times when i see her they are valuable to me right and she doesn't care whether i drive a big car or not she doesn't care she just wants to spend time with daddy i also started realizing i wanted more profound things of the life versus or more profound uh i would say knowledge really versus things that forced me to go back to school towards becoming a psychologist so you see minimalism um uh is really about seeking a profound meaning to life seeking things that give you joy right experiences sure you can have a nice car that's totally fine as a minimalist as long as it's not that important to you and what's important they are the things that truly bring you joy now how does that relate to mental health you see most of us including myself as i said before we are so preoccupied with getting things that when we can achieve these things immediately it causes angst which then leads to anxiety which is at least a general anxiety disorder you see many of us it's our desire for things that drives our anxiety when in fact if we looked around us and we looked at the things that truly mattered you would realize this one key thing you cannot attach attach a dollar value to it right the time i spent with my child there's no price on that so when you start thinking about your life and you start thinking that you don't have certain things take a step back and think about the things that truly matter to you the things that really give you joy and you'll find that they are so simple um they're so simple but at the same time they bring you so much joy and so much peace right so if you deal with anxiety take a step back again re-evaluate find what's important to you and i promise you it will start to help take the edge off all right so anyways i hope this makes sense i hope you start to uh examine the world of minimalism i think there's a great documentary on netflix called minimalism a really good documentary check it out and there are also some great people on youtube like uh matt diabeta i believe is a is a really interesting guy who's a self-professed minimalist there's a couple other people like leo babuata these are all good people anyways i hope this makes sense and as always family stay well
