Minimalism and Mental Health: World Mental Health Day
In honor of World Mental Health Day, this video examines the ways that minimalism and mental health intersect, as well as how reducing clutter and practicing a minimalist lifestyle can support positive mental health and reduce anxiety. It also addresses some of the negative emotional or mental clutter that comes up as we start to simplify.

  2. Insights you shared here are just what I needed at this moment! Thank you, I have renewed hope.

  3. So many important insights here. The identity topic was especially helpful to me. Thank you!

  4. You have quickly become one of my favorite Youtubers, Sarah, and this video is another demonstration of why! I never really paid attention to how mind-numbing aquiring stuff can be, until I experienced the anxiety of letting it go. I don't mind, I know it's only temporarily, because after a decluttering session, with or without that rush of guilt and anxiety, I always feel calm, strong, light and liberated. I don't know yet what I'll be doing with that extra mental space, but maybe the extra mental space will allow me to figure it out. Thank you so much, I just know you are helping so many people through struggles and grief.

  5. Thank you for making this video, Sarah.
I have a panic anxiety disorder. The rooms of my home I can keep uncluttered make me feel at ease, conversely the problem areas feed my anxiety and the room belonging to my hoarder relative gives me panic attacks.
Fewer choices also are a great benefit. Anxiety seems to cause difficulties making choices. Less choices, less stress, love it.
Thank you again! I just wanted to affirm with my personal experience what you said . If people practice what you teach here they will greatly benefit!💜

  6. Thanks for sharing 🌸

  7. Decision fatigue … definitely something I struggle with.

  8. Such an important topic and you presented the information very well.

  9. I'm moving in December. Last move was in 2011 and I still don't like to think of it, because I literally moved trash from one city to another and shoved it in the basement. Took me till this year to really clean out the last bit of junk in my basement and only have useful things there (and they are decreasing also). This move will be way easier, because I have been decluttering for 4 to 5 years now. I know exactly what I don't want in my new (and bigger) space and I'm going through all my boxes to reduce and organize the stuff.
The hardest topic is crafts and sewing, because I'm not sure, if I really want to pursue some of the crafts. My fantasy self has so many ideas and plans and all the material for it, but no time because of work and decluttering 😂
My mind doesn't get that much rest, because I declutter instead of taking a creative break. But I can't take a creative break, because I know I have too much and need to downsize. Well, at least I'm moving not far away and from a 1-room-apartment to a 3-room-apartment with a designated crafting room 😍

  10. Your content is great! Love it! Follow me everyone and I will do the same!

  11. I have been on the road to minimalism for almost one year. I can see the connection between physical and mental clutter. As I declutter I feel some less anxiety. There is less chaos in my life… I found it so helpful to place items I am considering keeping in a box for 3 to 6 months. If I go back to the item I keep it. If not I pass it along…. I do think there is a deep connection between our buying, spending and mental health…. it’s xomplicTed.

  12. 5:25 that's alot of guilt 😂

  13. Such an insightful and valuable video! Absolutely loved it 😄

  14. Love the quote in the background, “live your best life with less!”

  15. Hi Sarah thank you for addressing this issue. Your video was very interesting and helpful thank you.❤

  16. Minimalism helps me to feel more calm, focused and content with what I already have. Depression or anxiety [as an illness] however is constant and requires constant effort. Also, I've tried Better Help before, but that option just didn't work out for me. Thank you for making this video, Sarah. ❤️

  17. Great word essay. Can you add pictures of de cluttered spaces? You’re so pretty, but seeing neatness will be inspirational as well. Thanks Sarah!

  18. Well done Sarah…you tackled and handled this issue with grace, honesty, detail and resources. Very impressed sweetie….Big Hugs

  19. Thank you Sarah. Wise thoughts. You know lots of these reflections are things I reflected on.

  20. Every word very relevant to me and by struggles. Thank you for your amazing vlogs.

  21. Another great video Sarah, would love some DITL videos they are so interesting 😊

  22. Hi Sarah. Another helpful video. Listening to you just talking is soothing, which is good for mental health. 💙 TFS.

  23. Glad I live peacefully and have
    no anxiety. Since being newly
    retired and very young minded
my life is full of happiness and
    peace. Natually becoming more
minimal over the years has also
    added to this.

  24. This was very interesting to
    listen to. Thanks Sarah.

  25. Oh I need to listen to this video ♥️♥️ I’m a hoarder trying to declutter my hoarded house BUT my hoarding is a coping mechanism for my anxiety and stress.
