October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Learn about the importance of breast health and when to get a mammogram.
hello my name is Nicole Fannin and I am the executive director of the Tanner Foundation October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I am here to share with you some important details about breast cancer so when is a mammogram recommended it is recommended for people between the ages of 35 and 40 and at 40 you should be receiving an annual mammogram screening where can I get my mammogram you can get your mammogram by working with your doctor to schedule a visit at our Tanner breast health center or you can be looking for mammography on the move it is our mobile mammography unit that is staffed by highly trained all women team and has the greatest digital mammography Technologies available you can work through your business your church or through Community Partners to have this unit at your location for easy access foreign you can get your mammogram results approximately two weeks after your mammogram once a radiologist has had a chance to review they will send you a letter if you use the my chart app you will have access to those results much sooner should a radiologist determine that you need further screening a nurse from your doctor's office will give you a call to schedule a follow-up visit screening mammograms are covered by most insurance plans including Medicare most insurance plans also allow for one annual screening every 366 days so once a year the Tanner Foundation offers a mammogram assistance fund this fund helps to support patients who qualify under the federal financial assistance program we have been able to help support mammograms for hundreds of community members over the last several years if you have questions on how to give to this fund or if you are a patient who qualifies for this fund please reach out to the Tanner Foundation at 770-812 gift we would be happy to help you I am excited to be part of the Tanner team and I'm honored to have the opportunity to share the importance of breast health I personally have had both family members and friends who have battled breast cancer and understand the importance of early detection and so I'm excited to get to be part of such a tremendous organization that promotes education awareness and access around breast health [Music]
