one of the largest literature reviews in history in regards to Depression was conducted a couple of months ago the researchers looked over to data from 97 studies with over 120 000 participants in total and found that all forms of physical activity are up to 50 percent more effective than traditional therapy and medication that's huge news because if you think about it whenever we see people dealing with depression the standard advice nowadays is to tell them to go and speak with someone sure exercise and eating healthy are sometimes mentioned as well but it's usually not the first thing we tell people to do now I'm not saying therapy and medication don't work they still do but hey if there is another solution that is technically free and now seems to be 50 percent more effective than this should be the very first thing that we recommend people to do we should be pushing people to work out and get some exercise you know throughout the years I've spent hundreds of hours talking to people trying to talk them into feeling better eventually I kind kind of realized that we were going in circles no matter what I would say even if I could get them to feel better it would usually only be for a fleeting moment for essentially the length of the conversation plus some on the other hand exercise is very different when you work out there are many biological changes that happen within your body you're flooded with feel-good neurotransmitters that have effects that can last for hours and even days after the workout it's like Nature's version of a drug that's natural that's actually good for you with basically no side effects that's also free that now turns out to be 50 percent more effective than the drugs the therapist prescribes to you for your depression and according to this study it doesn't have to be crazy full body workouts they found that all types of physical activity could be beneficial so that means just going out for a walk every day instead of staying at home all day could help you with your depression but of course I recommend some more intense forms of exercise such as lifting weights swimming or going for a run and that's it I just wanted to let you you know that you should be asking yourself if you're getting any exercise if you've been feeling down in the dumps instead of thinking that therapy and medication are the only answers and just a disclaimer this study focused on participants with mild to medium levels of depression if you are someone with severe depression it is still best to speak with someone first sticking to a habit of exercise when you're in a rut can be hard but there are ways that you can do this easily which actually brings us to the sponsors of today's video Fiverr Fiverr is a place where anyone can offer any service for a cost this is a great place to find personal trainers nutritionists and even yoga teachers we tried out some of their services ourselves to see how effective they were our assistant hired a personal trainer for a week and she said it was great she was able to work out more consistently if you like to take advantage of the services Fiverr offers you can use coupon code pill or click on the link in the description box below to get 10 off any of the services on Fiverr there are many other services you can explore such as animators editors and even website developers I hope you found this video helpful besides that stay tuned

  1. I've been exercising for like 3 monts, 3 days a week, calesthenic stuff but lately Ive been suffering from anxiety attacks at night and stuff. I joined a gym today though and well I hope that me learning to cope and continue working out helps

  2. *Laughs in planar fasciitis

  3. I did this for decades… To keep repressed memories repressed.
If you have to make a paycheck, sure.
If you are looking for actual help, find a qualified specialist. I'm there now.

  4. Forever thankful to you for making this video !!❤🙏
It has positively changed my life forever ❤

  5. Brothers, when you wake up, open your window, let the sunlight in and take a walk for atleast 5 minutes. Don't keep looking at your phone, don't bring up music, just take a walk and try to appreciate the sorroundings. It seems like a small thing but doing this everyday keeps me from low energy levels and all the sleepless nights 😊

  6. I workout very well and it doesn’t help me mentally much

  7. I workout very well and it doesn’t help me mentally much

  8. When you do your favorite exercise or workout, you will feel more confident and energetic. When you set a goal of doing 100 pushups or 20 pull-ups and can achieve them, it's the best feeling. If you can do all of them, you will believe in yourself more. That is the reason I work out every day to achieve some skills in calisthenics. It is a journey, just relax, and you will achieve them

  9. I always workout but I'm still always depressed?

  10. 1 month of daily 1h long street waling > therapist his pills and bills

  11. Struggled with depression for years. Was at a point where my wife was saying I needed to go to therapy. Before doing that, I was like “Let me try CrossFit first” because I knew I felt better after run/workout. And I will say it, nothing cures depression and gets you out of a rut like that. I do both that and therapy, and it’s half the cost of therapy with memberships but 10x better results. Plus, working out gets you jacked, therapy does not.

  12. I'll hit the gym, and be I will get back to this video 3 months from now

  13. Not true.. Ive done that..

  14. Bro you had gave us a lot of mental and physical strength pills. Please give us some pills for skin care and inner health.

  15. This video should go viral So important message for millions out there

  16. This is so important! I always make sure to get some level of exercise in! My mantra when I feel like I can't do it today is, "It's better to do less than nothing at all!"

  17. Never see any of your videos recommended these days

  18. As some have mentioned, it is easier said then done to get yourself out there, even just telling yourself to go for a walk can be tough. For me I try to I guess "trick" my brain to give myself an excuse or treat for going out. like saying "oh, I would like a snack to treat myself, and the store is just down the road" Or even "my friend is at their home now, I'd like to go visit them" Basically weeding your motivation to make walking an after thought to the "real" task.

  19. The feeling after cold shower is insane. Trust me it will make you 1000 times better.

  20. I exercise my left arm multiple times a day, everyday… But I'm still depressed 💀

  21. if there was no gym i would be in psych ward right now.

  22. Exercise of course is a wonderful way to manage feeling low and enhance mood. However, the idea that you need to push people to exercise when they are depressed may not be an ideal one. In depression, sometimes it’s difficult to even manage to get out of the bed, and this is not just due to physical tiredness but also emotional as well. For this emotional state in depression, it is important to express one’s thoughts and feelings.

As noted in the video, it can be helpful for mild to moderate depression, however, we need to be careful not to push this down to someone and think they wouldn’t need to express themselves but just exercise.

As I said before, exercise is useful and helpful, however, it also depends on the severity of what one is going through.

Thank you for making this video.

  23. Problem with depression is you don't want to do anything for bettering yourself. One of the reasons I got a dog was to force myself to get up and walk. The routine and consistency really helps and its less harder to get up in the morning to walk your furry friend than to do it for yourself.

  25. I was literally just about to look up how to improve mental health, then looked at the new uploads by people I'm subscribed to and saw this!

  26. I totally agree. Doing cyclette every day has helped me a lot

  27. Does anyone have this study link? I'd like to read it completely

  28. “What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation.
    — Glenn Close

  29. For a long time now, your videos have been coming with this advertises. You used to make deep meaningful videos, and now it doesnt look like you even study at all about the subject youre going to talk about. It feels like you only post a video to get money from an advertiser. Such a shame because this was a great channel, and for the first time im feeling it im gonna unsubscribe soon from this channel.

  30. Nr1. Sleep
    Nr2. Work out
Nr3. Shower and brush your teeth.
    Nr3. Fresh air and sun:
Go for a walk outside in the fresh air, hell just drink your morning coffee outside in the fresh air.

Simple i know but it seriously makes a difference

  31. Never had medication against depression or anxiety.
All I ever did was walk, bike, grab a wedge and chop drift wood at the river bank, or going to the gym. I always stay longer at the gym than initially planned.
Exercising is what kept me sane throughout the pandemic.
