What Is a PLANT-BASED DIET? Beginner's Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition | Doctor ER. ER Doctor Jordan Wagner explains the basics of plant-based diets & vegan diets and if it's the best diet for you to lose belly fat. With the COVID-19 vaccine rolling out and the new year approaching, the months ahead are looking promising. So what's the best diet plan for weight loss in 2021? We've heard them all, intermittent fasting, plant-based diets, low-carb diets, paleo diets, low-fat diets, Mediterranean diet, Weight Watchers, DASH diet. There seems to be a new fitness and health and wellness plan that pops up every day. Are you looking for vegan gains or vegan recipes? Today I'm going to discussing everything you need to know about plant-based diets and meal prep: from plant-based meaning, plant-based food, plant-based vs vegan, plant-based protein, and more. Plant-based or plant-forward eating patterns focus on foods primarily from plants. This includes not only fruits and vegetables, but also nuts, seeds, oils, whole grains, legumes, and beans. It doesn't mean that you are vegetarian or vegan and never eat meat or dairy. Research has even suggest that a plant-strong diet can combat chronic diseases and dramatically heal your health. However, plant-based diets have raised some concerns over the years such as: How do you prevent deficiencies on a vegan diet? Is plant-based the same as vegan? If you have any medical questions, COVID-19 questions, or even a funny quarantine vlog, send it my way! Thanks so much for watching. Stay healthy, my friends!

What is a plant-based diet? A plant-based diet can reduce the risk of
type two diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer, and other major illnesses. You’ve probably heard by now you know that
science shows changing your nutrition is a powerful way to live longer, help the environment,
and reduce your risk of getting sick. You’re probably thinking that moving to
a plant-based diet sounds like a great idea, but you don’t know where to start or if
it’s right for you. What are the overall health benefits? Is it right for me? Can you eat plant-based on a budget? How do I make sure I’m getting the right
amount of nutrients? Nutritional advice can be confusing, worrisome,
and all over the place. We want to eat healthy to fuel our bodies,
but where do we start? Remember, no one specific diet or health plan
is the same for everyone. How food affects our bodies is different for
each individual. Some may thrive on a plant-based diet vs,
keto vs paleo, vs even carnivore. But don’t worry, today, I’m going to break
down and answer all your plant-based diet need to know questions. Hey everyone, I’m Doctor Jordan Wagner. I’m a board-certified emergency medicine
physician and on my show, I answer your urgent medical questions and clear up myths about
certain deadly diseases. If you haven’t already done so, please make
sure you hit the ‘subscribe’ button and turn your bell notifications on. That way you are instantly alerted when I
post a new video. What is a plant-based diet? A whole-food, plant-based diet is based on
the following principles as there isn’t really a clear definition. Whole food describes natural foods that are
not heavily processed. That means whole, unrefined, or minimally
refined ingredients. Plant-based means food that comes from plants
and doesn’t include animal ingredients such as meat, milk, eggs, or honey. A whole-food, plant-based diet lets you meet
your nutritional needs by focusing on natural, minimally-processed plant foods. The whole food plant-based diet is not necessarily
a set diet — it’s more of a lifestyle. Is a plant-based diet healthy? If followed properly, a whole foods, plant-based
diet can have its benefit in the long run. Plant-based diets limit the use of oils, added
sugars, and processed foods, leaving only whole foods to provide the nutrition. This maximizes nutrient intake and virtually
eliminates foods that can lead to poor health outcomes. This is the biggest takeaway. These diets are low in saturated fat, free
of cholesterol and rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. There’s excellent scientific evidence that
many chronic diseases can be controlled, reduced, or even reversed by moving to a whole-food,
plant-based diet. Scientific research highlighted in the landmark
book The China Study shows that a plant-based diet can reduce the risk of type two diabetes,
heart disease, certain types of cancer, and other major illnesses. Many people also report bigger fitness payoffs,
more energy, reduced inflammation, and better health outcomes after the switch. How to know if a plant-based diet is right
for you, So many people who make the switch report
feeling much better, having less fatigue, and lose weight, and otherwise enjoying
a healthy lifestyle. Once you get started, it’ll be easier to
keep going. Once you begin feeling shifts in your mood, your energy and have lost some weight, it’s a lot easier to continue eating this way. One of the best motivators for people transitioning
to any new diet or exercise routine is results. Can you eat plant-based on a budget? Whole-food, plant-based eating is cheaper
then you actually think. Fresh produce goes a long way, and whole grains,
potatoes, and beans are some of the most affordable bulk foods that you can buy. Create meals around these staple items and
you’ll definitely spend a lot less than you are on a diet that's rich in meat and other animal products. How can you eat plant-based if you're always
on the go and you don't have time to cook? Yes, you will need to plan ahead a little, but
it’s pretty easy to find whole-food, plant-based meals on the go. You can usually find fruit and dishes made
with pasta, rice, and potatoes wherever you are. With a little creativity and flexibility,
you can also prepare some fantastic food to take with you. How can you eat out on a plant-based diet? Most restaurants are very accommodating of
dietary needs, and you should be able to review their menu online. Scan the menu in advance to see if a restaurant
offers vegan options, and you’re already most of the way there. When you’re unsure, simply call ahead, explain
your preferences and they will probably be able to accommodate you. How do I know if a plant-based diet is right
for you? Try it out. Begin slowly. Keep it simple. Begin by cutting out one animal product at
a time. For example, try replacing all milk and dairy
products with soy, rice, almond, or hemp alternatives. Use non-dairy yogurt or kefir and soy or coconut milk
coffee creamer alternatives. Next step, you can try replacing meats with
plant-based proteins and meat alternatives like tofu, veggie burgers, and tempeh. But still, be sure to keep in mind the four groups of food at each meal — plant protein, fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. The cons of a plant-based diet, Following a plant-based diet means saying
goodbye to all animal products or most animal products including lean meat and dairy products such as milk, yogurt,
cheese, and ice cream. It’s much easier said than done.
Truth me, I know. But when you follow the appropriate guidelines
and implement the correct eating habits, over time, replacing animal products in your diet
is possible. If you don’t plan your plant-based diet
correctly, you may not meet all your protein, vitamin, and mineral needs. And you won’t feel or look your best if
you develop a nutritional deficiency. But there are easy ways to make sure you’re
getting the nutrients you need. Importance of getting the right nutrients, That being said, whole plant foods contain
all the essential nutrients, with the exception of vitamin B12, we need. You can get some B12 from fortified foods
such as plant-based milks and breakfast cereals, but the best source is simply a B12 supplement vitamin. Fun fact, in fact, the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services recommends supplementing B12 for all adults over the age of 50 because as
we age, many people lose the ability to absorb vitamin B12 from food sources. You don't need to go full vegetarian or vegan
to get the best heart-healthy benefits. The focus should be on eating more of the
right foods, and avoiding the wrong ones, eliminating unhealthy foods, and moderating your intake
of healthier animal products. A heart-healthy diet doesn't need to be a daunting one either. All right, that's been a quick plant-based
breakdown with me, Doctor Wagner. Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever
tried to go full plant-based or have been thinking about. I’d love to hear about your experiences. Hit me up on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter
as well. I’ll be sure to respond to you there. As always, make sure that you subscribe and turn your bell notifications on. Thank you so much for watching.
Stay healthy my friends.

Have you tried a plant-based diet? 🤔🥗 Let me know your experience below in the comments! ⬇️
Tofu and oat milk. Errrrrr !
I have been eating 100% plant based for 3 weeks and I feel great. I am so regular now and no digestive issues past the first three days. I do not plan to continue this since I am following the 21 day Daniel fast. I have noticed less inflammation, but I have not lost a single pound. I’m not too upset as I was worried about losing muscle with this way of eating. I always seem to be hungry and personally need more protein. I do plan to continue eating Whole Foods most of the time, limiting ultra processed foods, and adding some meat to my meals soon.
This is my first time to try this. I need to feel better. Thank you Dr. Wagner for the tips.
Wife is Vegan and has been for the last 4 years… I just started this journey yesterday and have ALOT to learn but I'm looking forward to this; Do you notice a huge change after a few weeks? 30 days? etc? Thanks!
I tried before to go vegan. But it was so hard to give up cheese. I grew up vegetarian with mom but when i went to dad’s he wasn’t a vegetarian. I’d say I’m quasi vegetarian, trying really hard to to go towards the vegan. But it is hard when family doesn’t want to. But I believe that we were made to eat plants originally
Eat vegetables moderately
I'm trying to switch but have a husband who tries to eat carnivore. I just finished a 3 day juice cleanse and now have had 2 meals that were mostly whole foods…breakfast included an organic whole wheat tortilla topped with almond butter, banana, blueberries and raspberries. I have Type A blood so seem to do better with veggies than meat and I'm drawn to it too, a big salad vs a steak off the grill. I have just received 2 books, Forks Over Knives and Plant Based Diet for Dummies. My biggest obstacle is chocolate. I don't drink coffee but have eaten a handful of dark chocolate chips every morning for a long time! I'm 70 years old.
Hey Dr God bless you! Got a question what do you think of carnivore diet?
Hi, i am Heather. AQ Can you eat rice on a plant base diet?
1st Time Watching & Subscribe.
Thinking about starting the new year.
So what can you eat
List of foods plz ❤
I have done a plant based diet multiple times, but then there's the problem with being satisfied. Food is really the only pleasure I get out of life, so I'm trying to figure out different ways to stay satisfied and not get hungry and angry later on.
I'm trying only meat 2x a week. .I've noticed alot more energy cutting out eggs, meat & other high fat foods!!! 😊
Oils are toxic and calorie-laden.
How come he doesn't even know how to pronounce his own name
I stay hungry and never feel full or satisfied. Eating lettuce all the time does not help and beans gives me gas and bloating. I’m tired all the time.
But but but I thought humans only need meat since that is our ancestral and optimal form? Aren't plants trying to kill us? They told me all I need is butter, bacon, beef and eggs!
I just started a plant based diet and I’m finding it easy because I love all these foods. I’m doing it because I have adhesive Arachnoiditis so I’m trying to reduce the inflammation that AA causes. My concern is getting the nutrients I need. How much vitamin B12 do you recommend?
I'm listening to the man speak about what a plant-based diet can do for you and how good it is for you. But they're not talking about the actual foods and what to eat. In other words what does a dinner meal look like, what does a breakfast meal look like. What are the actual foods that I should eat. I am a single man and it's easy to heat up some chicken wings in a microwave with maybe a vegetable or a can of beans. But I am not a cook, like a lot of people meal preparation is not my strong point. Make a video and tell me what to actually eat, otherwise your video is a waste of time
I dont do red meats not dairy anylonger
And when i eat meat is chicken breast and 2oz only like once a day everyother day
And i dont drink alcohol nor fried anything nor sugars like candy or cokes
Get to the point!!!! PLEASE
Honey? Really? If it wasn't for Plants, Bees couldn't make honey….Interesting!
Bro this video makes me sick watching you zoom in and out out every few seconds. Stop with that please
B12 is produced by bacteria in a healthy gut. No need to supplement anything i have been doing it 45 years. About once a month i may make an exception and eat fish or eggs. I also now use animal fats. Butter and lard. Animal protein is the culprit not fats. 12 years i was vegan.
I’m Carnivore and all my markers improved. Vegans are killing themselves.
Is Dr. Jordan Wagner Vegan?
15 plus years eating a plant based diet.
Such a long introduction? Way too long
How many honest vegan people and animals in the Planet? Den asked
This is the best your video!!! 😊 Plant Lovers
Can an active 65 year old male do okay one a plant based based diet? Enough protein?
I have been on a what has seemed like an impossible journey! Just simply trying to find a video for some of my patience/client on becoming a vegetarian something that gets to the point. Thank you very much! I will be using your video to educate my clients and patients. I am a nurse that has been teaching Whole Foods nutrition for 25 years. I have been laughed at and been told I’m crazy for years. But finally the world has caught up to having a plant-based whole food diet. It will change your life thank you for getting to the point on this video.
im a huge meat eater as to why i developed psoriatic arthritis. my dad died due to heart attack because of the said diet as well
I have been on a WFPB diet since January of this year, and it's changed the way I view food now. I have been a meat eater for 39 1/2 years of my life and it still amazes me that I don't even consider meat or dairy anymore.
The first advertisement on this video was for Taco Bell.🤣😅😂🤣 The WFPB diet is really more of a lifestyle than a diet. Nothing is strictly prohibited but the goal is to eliminate hydrogenated oils, processed meats, dairy, meat, fish, and refined sugars (cookies & cakes). Hearty whole grain breads can be a treat once in a while.
The issue with restaurants is that they mostly offer pasta and pastry based on superfined flower and white, which means peeled, rice. These lack a lot of nutrients, first among which is fibre.
Went full plant based and lost 1 pound a day. Felt great…however, my emotions got the best of me. Now trying to get my mind set to go for it again.
Good One!
Amazing Video
What is the correct dose of B12 daily?
If it had a mama or a daddy, don’t eat it. 👍
