in today's video i will list the different foods that can help improve fertility in both men and women and i would also talk about the foods that you should stay away from i get asked this question a lot if you're new to this channel i am dr amarachi ijama i am a fertility physician and my channel focuses on women's health and fertility so if you want more content like this subscribe to my channel like this video and drop a comment below and if you're a returning subscriber thanks for always watching my video thanks for the engagement the likes the [Music] comments like i always tell my patients you are allowed to eat almost any food just focus on eating healthy ensure a balanced diet and eating moderate quantities but for the purpose of this video i am going to be talking about the different meals that helps to improve fertility and how they do it so i'm going to be starting with foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids and the foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids include fish for example salmon and also walnuts omega-3 fatty acid contains good fats and it's rich in antioxidants and it is anti-inflammatory studies have shown that it helps to improve embryo quality and increases your chances of ovulation walnuts contains omega-3s and omega-6s and it's also a good source of folic acid studies have shown that it improves semen health by increasing sperm count and increasing sperm motility foods rich in vitamin d and this includes salmon and egg yolk studies have shown that it helps to increase the chances of life births and pregnancy vitamin d can also be gotten in dietary supplements carbohydrates for example rice yum carbohydrate foods have antioxidant properties and studies have shown that it is associated with increased life bath rates vegetables studies have shown that it helps with better embryo development fruits for example berries blueberries raspberries strawberries they are high in antioxidant properties they are high in folic acid they help with fetal growth other fruits like avocados also high in folic acid and it is good for fetal growth soy studies have shown that soy increases your chances of conceiving naturally and also increases your chances of conceiving with fertility treatment so if you're undergoing treatments like ivf iui soy taking soy helps to also improve your chances of success and also you're trying naturally so it helps to increase your chances folic acid foods rich in folic acid if you've been trying to conceive you are already aware that you should be taking at least 400 micrograms of folic acid or folate they are both the same thing and this helps to promote fetal growth and development and also helps to prevent neural tube defects since we're talking about the different foods that you can get folic acid from and the amount of folic acid you can get in each of them so remember we have to get at least 400 micrograms of folic acid in a day so i'm going to start with asparagus because it has the highest concentration of folic acid half cup that is about 90 grams of cooked asparagus can give us about 134 micrograms of folic acid only asparagus beans is also a good source of folic acid one cup of cooked kidney beans which is about 177 grams contains 131 micrograms of folic acid one cup of cooked lentils which is about 198 grams of cooked lentils contains 358 micrograms of folic acid citrus fruits like oranges lemons limes grapefruits they are high sources of folic acid imagine that just one large orange contains about 55 micrograms of folic acid what have you heard about lemon and limes when trying to get pregnant i have heard some of my patients even tell me that once you've not gotten married or you're not you've not gotten a child then you should avoid lemon online because it is acidic and it will affect fertility no no no no no no that is a myth because instead of even affecting fertility it helps to improve fertility because of it is high in folic acid egg one large egg contains about 22 micrograms of folic acid vegetables like spinach and kale one cup of raw spinach which is about 30 grams of raw spinach contains about 58.2 micrograms of folic acid beet roots popularly called beets one cup which contains about 136 grams of raw beets contains about 148 micrograms of folic acid walnuts one ounce of walnuts which is about 28 grams of walnuts contains about 28 micrograms of folic acid avocado half of a raw avocado contains about 82 micrograms of folic acid i'm going to be listing out foods that you should limit in your diet and i'm going to be starting with red meat red meat is highly inflammatory remember when i was calling the foods that you should eat to improve your fertility most of them i was saying they were anti-inflammatory but red meat is very inflammatory to the body it has chemicals that disrupts hormones and studies have shown that people who eat less red meats have better embryo development so it's less red meat alcohol studies have shown that there is a high association of reduced implantation rates and high risk of miscarriage in people who take a lot of alcohol so reduce your intake of alcohol soft drinks and this includes both the diets of drink and the regular soft drinks some of you know it as soda i mean soda is not healthy to the body on a normal day whether you're trying to achieve pregnancy or not so that should be reduced in your diet remember we are trying to stay healthy if you've enjoyed this video and you want more content like this please subscribe to my channel leave a comment below and don't forget to
