foreign [Applause] how can you restore your natural hormone balance after years of using birth control yes there is some impact on our bodies after using hormonal birth control for some time but what are they more importantly how can you restore your body's natural function after you stop using these methods if you stick around until the end of this video we will look at the ways that hormonal birth control methods can affect your natural cycle and seven ways you can restore them after you stop or come off birth control hi and welcome back to my channel I'm Dr Sylvia a general practitioner and health educator with askewa health here we love to share health information to help you learn more about your body's feel and be better so if this is the kind of information you have been searching the whole of YouTube for you can stop now because you've got to this Channel and we're going to help you achieve your goals please don't forget to give this video a like And subscribe to the channel and you can also follow us everywhere on social media ask away Health Facebook Twitter Instagram Tick Tock the works and friends my channel membership is now open so if you love the work that we do and want to support everything that we're doing to promote health education please come and become a member of this channel you would also be entitled to some perks for example being able to recommend new topics that you're interested in which we will deliver on this channel so let us begin using regular birth control methods whichever kinds the combine pill the implant or the coil and so on can significantly affect the hormone levels in your body these hormone changes can have various effects ranging from irregular periods to mood swings and fertility related issues however several effective ways exist for you to restore your hormone balance after you've come off birth control in this video we shall explore seven methods that will help you to restore your hormone balance and your body's natural equilibrium but before we do that let us look at these hormonal changes when you're using birth control the first effect is on your estrogen and progesterone levels birth control methods like the pill or the patch the implants the injection and so on often contain the synthetic hormones estrogen and progesterone regularly using these methods can suppress your body's natural hormone production the next thing that happens is the disruption of your menstrual cycle because your body isn't producing its natural hormones the birth control methods can alter your menstrual cycle often leading to lighter bleeding or irregular bleeding patterns and the next thing this birth control methods can do is delay the restoration of fertility after you stop birth control it may take some time for your fertility to return back to normal this depends on when your natural cycle is able to resume a after being suppressed by the hormones this delay can vary depending on the type of birth control method and it also varies from one woman to another okay so what are the effects of this hormone imbalance we've talked about some of them already but there are a few more we've mentioned irregular menstrual cycles the hormone fluctuations can lead to problems like longer or shorter bleeding periods heavier or very light or scanty bleeding or even absent periods they can also lead to mood swings and emotional changes so some women on different birth control methods may experience anxiety irritability mood swings or even depression another effect is on the skin with acne and some other skin changes developing so birth control methods can trigger acne breakouts or lead to skin texture or changes in the appearance of the skin and another effect that some women may experience with their birth control method is reduced sex drive or low libido again because of the imbalance in hormone levels women may experience reduced sexual desire which can affect their overall sexual well-being so now we've got all that out of the way let us look at seven ways to restore hormone balance after birth control number one now I know we say this a lot but I must emphasize because it is important and it is a balanced diet and nutrition so if you're coming off the pill or whatever birth control method please focus on nutrient-rich diet with adequate Protein healthy fat and complex carbohydrates so if you're coming off your birth control method or thinking about doing so soon you need to incorporate foods that will support hormone balance examples are fatty fish like tuna or mackerel leafy greens like spinach whole grains and seeds also consider supplements like omega-3 fatty acids vitamin B and magnesium which can all help to support hormone production and balance number two regular exercise and Stress Management is another method that would help you balance your hormones quickly after you stop your birth control method and by this I mean engage in regular physical activity so this can be as simple as walking or swimming whatever you enjoy doing but if you can't incorporate cardio exercises strength training and yoga to help promote hormone balance practice stress management techniques for example meditation deep breathing or mindfulness methods to help to reduce your cortisol levels and manage Stress For You third some herbal remedies and adaptogens may help which ones am I talking about there is some little scientific evidence that suggests that for some women herbs like Chase Berry black cohosh and maca root may be good may be effective in helping to balance your hormones it's also thought that adaptogenic herbs like ashwagandha ginseng and Rhodiola can help the body adapt to stress and promote hormone balance adaptogens are substances that enhance the body's ability to adapt to stress while at the same time boosting overall balance and returning the body's functions to normal don't forget my usual recommendation before you start any herbal supplement discussed with your medical provider to ensure that it's suitable for your own medical situation and will not interact with any other drugs that you're taking the fourth method is taking supportive supplements essential nutrients like vitamin D zinc and iodine are crucial to the body's ability to produce and regulate hormones you might be deficient in some of these vitamins or supplements so it's good to consider insults your doctor to see if they can arrange blood tests to check your hormone levels and if you need to have replacement the fifth method is to replace any hormones that are out of balance for some women despite these lifestyle changes the hormone levels and imbalance May persist for some time or be difficult to restore back to normal in this case some hormone therapy may be considered for a short while and this can include using things like body identical hormones if you're thought to have hormone deficiencies again you should discuss this with your healthcare provider so that your levels can be assessed and they can decide if it will be suitable for you to have any hormone replacement the sixth method I have for you is tracking your menstrual cycle and ovulation so what do I mean by tracking monitoring your menstrual cycle which days your period starts and stop how heavy or light the flow is when you're ovulating can give insight into your hormone patterns so you can use fatigue utility awareness methods a simple calendar or smartphone apps in order to track your cycle and identify any potential irregularities and of course optimize the methods to use to balance your hormones and lastly but of course not the least is patience and time it's a good idea to allow your body to adjust and rebalance after you've come off birth control I know you want to start your family start having kids but it's good to plan ahead and give yourself perhaps two to three months from coming off birth control from coming off your method before expecting your ovulation and fertility and hormone balance to return back to its natural phase and remember that some methods for example the Depo shot can take a longer period than usual in some women in some cases it's like take 10 to 12 months or even longer for fertility to return after stopping the Depo progesterone injection so my friends restoring your hormone balance after coming off any birth control method is a process it requires patience time some lifestyle measures replacing hormones and supplements like we've mentioned and professional guidance you can support your body's natural hormone production and regain balance by following a holistic process looking at your diet and exercise and Stress Management perhaps replacing some supplements or vitamins or even hormone therapy as we've mentioned already if you do need help going through this then please consult a healthcare professional remember you can always reach me via email health information service I will place the links for you in the description box below this playlist here on Smart birth control methods is also helpful so go and check it out next don't forget to give this video a like subscribe to the channel and I will see you again soon

  1. So my daughter’s on this rollercoaster of moods — crying one minute, Hulk-smash angry the next. Meanwhile, I’m over here worried she’s turning into a professional bed-dweller. Honestly, I don’t think you — or half the medical field — have the faintest clue what kind of chaos an IUD can unleash. It’s like strapping a hormonal gremlin to someone’s uterus and just hoping for the best. So just fuck off!

  2. Hi Doc! Thank you for the great video that helps us understand about hormonal balance and about birth control pills. I have been using Marvelon birth control for 17 years. I stopped taking it October 2024 and that’s when I had health issues of occasional hot flashes, bp rises, even developed anxiety and panic attacks, chest pains and back pains 2 weeks before period and headaches. I would like to know if all of my health issues is connected with stopping of the birth control pills. Its now 5-6months stopping it. I had blood tests and ecg turns normal. I just want assurance that this isnt something serious especially the chest pains. Thank you!

  3. Ma'am, I've never had acne before but I am scared of getting it after I quit the pill (I am 25). What are the chances that I get acne if I never got it before the pill? Thank you ❤

  4. I am 37yrs old taking birth control pills… Having brown discharge ,Not bleeding is it normal

  8. How much would taking pregnenolone + DHEA help?

  9. Hello, doctor! I just want to ask some questions. I had an unprotected sex on the first day of my period (June 27) I took the plan B pills on June 29 my period ended on June 30. Then, on July 2 I experienced bleeding. Until now I'm still experiencing this bleeding. It's been 3 days. My question is, is it a side effect of the pill? And is it normal to have bleeding again 2 days after my period. Hope you can answer this question because i am worried.

  10. What if you are in perimenopause and just got an IUD removed, does this still apply?

  11. Thank you very much mam for the huge information. This topic is very relevant for me because I just stop taking oral contraceptive last month. For almost 7 years I'm taking it. Thank you very much and God bless ❤️🙏😊😊
