Are the Blue Zones real?

I read the original Blue Zones book years ago and loved it. I also watched the series recently, and I loved that too. The creator, Dan Buettner, is an extremely skilled communicator and storyteller, and most of the takeaway messages are universal principles we can all benefit from.

Here’s the problem: the Blue Zones profiled– with one exception–are not the world’s real Blue Zones. Secondly, the entire Blue Zone movement strongly advocates veganism–which is fine–except that none of these areas are vegan. Not one.

have you seen this new Netflix series Live to 100 it's by the author of the blue zones it's beautifully shot and the message is really good move more eat Whole Foods Find meaning and purpose in your life all wonderful things that you can incorporate unfortunately there's two big problems the first one is these are not actually blue zones Okinawa is not the longest living area in Japan it's actually the area with the shortest life expectancy Costa Rica or icaria in Greece the Census Data is really poor it's really all over the place the most egregious error of this whole series was that the author and Creator Dan has a vegan agenda so when he shows you footage in all these different places he selectively excludes from the kitchens the meats and the dairy and the eggs and this is just dishonest we all have the internet many of us travel we've been to these countries these are not plant-based communities keep in mind I'm a plant-based guy I have been for 22 years I believe in the message but if you want to convince people to eat more plants you need to tell them honestly what's going on these blue zones kind of don't exist and they're definitely not vegan

  2. Your honesty is refreshing! Thank you very much.

  3. This video is ridiculous. The Blue Zones ARE dying in instances, but the research is not from today, but quite a few years ago now. Except for many of the 7th day adventists, most ate limited amounts of meat along with an abundance of plant whole foods. Watch the series, not this guy.

  4. Dan Buettner NEVER said the blue zones were vegan. He said, on average the people in these zones, when he studied them some years ago now, ate meat an average of 5 times per month, which is a much lower-meat diet than typical in U.S., but not vegan. Plant-predominant, not vegan.

  5. I think most ppl know blue zone diets are not vegans, they eats meats too. The thing is, we need to know the complete diet the ate.

  7. Blue zone or not, there was still a lot of good info coming out of the documentary. I’m not a vegan or vegetarian, but I enjoyed a lot of the messages about improving my physical and mental/emotional health.

  8. I totally disagree. Ive been to Nicoya and there you Can see why ppl live long lives

  9. True but we should go vegan for our planet.

  10. Who would benefit to the vegan agenda? Farmers?

  11. I’ll stay away from meat. Eat more Fruits grains and nuts. I pray I’ll go 100% plant based soon

  12. It's not a vegan agenda. The data are clear.

  13. Okinawans have a 40% chance of living to 100 than any other Japanese people. I don’t know if they said they were the people with the most centarians but definitely the places where your most likely to live to 100.

  14. Never said they’re vegans!! That’s your agenda

  15. I thought something they were saying was suspicious about these blue zones, people will say anything for profit, at first I thought it was good that people were on YouTube talking about eating healthy but now there are 100s and 100s of YouTube talking about diet, now it getting confusing. Now I don't know what's what.

  16. Why do you say that cancer is good for you but cooking food is carcinogenic? Is cancer good only as a response the way a fever is good for you to fight infection?

  17. Ok how about yogis who eat an exclusive vegan diet and live long healthy lives? 🧘‍♀️🤔

  18. Those who are 100 now were 26 in 1950. So there is a good possibility that they indeed ate that way back then. This is based on how they ate throughout their lives, not what people are eating now or even 20 years ago.

  19. In sardinia we literally have s dish called porceddu (the pork in his first months). And in Nuoro they eat it a pot since centuries. We make a lot of tuna, sausages, cheese, milk. Majority of pecorino in the world is made from the milk of sardinian sheeps. So we are not so vegan over there hehe.

  20. Bruh yes they do im in costa rica right now and all we eat is plant based farm grown actual organic food and my grandma is over 100 years old already so stick it where the sun dont shine whitey

  21. He did say that Okinawa was not a blue zone any longer. He didn’t leave that out.

  22. Thanks for being honest. Plant based is one thing .vegan is another. And the entire blue zone thing has become pure propaganda. Above all, do what best suits you, specially when it comes to diet. all other aspects are super important, if not more so. If we all were to Keep sugars processed foods away and seed oils and every other invented ultra processed food, and the entire world would be in much better metabolic health, if we were to move more, be outside more, develop and maintain relationships rather than continue to fall in the isolation trap that smart phones have brought to us, we would all be much happier. Combine the two and there you have it, a long happy life.

  23. Most famous scientist specialized in reverse aging live plant based….

  24. The Blue Zone has been invented in this period exactly to brain wash people. If you think with your brain your gut tells you what you must eat. NOT NETFLIX. Plants are awful.

  25. Netflix does a huge brain wash. Those documentaries about Blue zone are lies. Already debunked by carnivore community.

  26. You obviously did not watch the full series.

  27. I enjoy your videos and information, but you are mistaken. Okinawa has a life expectancy among the highest in the world. Check the data, not just the film.

  28. There's actually 1 more big problem, and it's probably the biggest. Genetics play the biggest role in all of this. You can't defeat your genetic makeup.

  29. I'm vegan for over seven years and I approve this message.

  30. The long life expectancy is getting confused because of the amount of the population deaths ,

  31. What message?plants don't want to be eaten, that is why you need to coock them, human can extract all the nutrints of the plants, hervibores do,we eat the animals that can process fiber and get the nutrients.that is the way of life .

  32. VEGAN ???
for millions of years we ate whatever we could CATCH👈🏿
cos there was no agriculture until 5000 years ago (a pinprick in time). so eating plant food was only a tiny part …
SO. EAT MEAT & DAIRY. 👈🏿
    If you wannabe healthy

  33. I love this, honesty over everything else. I love a plant based diet but let’s give people the information to decide for themselves rather than being deceitful

  34. Sorry but what is a blue zone ? Or what is supposed to be ?
