I've been talking a lot about balancing your hormones naturally if it's even possible and how to do it with food one of the things that I really want everyone to understand is that food plays a really powerful role in your overall health food is medicine but definitely in your hormone balance and again you know we've seen firsthand I've experienced it with myself and definitely with my patients how simple tweaks and the right choices in Foods makes such a difference with your hor we're talking about thyroid estrogen insulin progesterone cortisol and so much more so today we're going to play a fun game called trash or stash because what I want everyone to understand whenever we start using words like we got a detox we got a lower inflammation is massive Panic really big eyes and everybody feels like it's going to be too overwhelming to do and instead we are simply going to talk about things that you can do right now in terms of cleaning up your pantry cleaning up your refrigerat Ator and adding a couple of hormone Builders into your FR fridge and Pantry to make all of this super easy because here's the deal once you got that pantry and that refrigerator the way it needs to be it is so easy to make healthy food choices it becomes natural it becomes just a part of what you do on a day-to-day basis so let's begin trash or stash and by the way I have all that written out in my latest book the hormone shift so you can literally go go straight to that section run through it and make sure youve got your refrigerator and your pantry stocked to be hormone healthy all right let's start with what we need to get rid of cuz sometimes that's a little bit easier because we can do a quick scan of what's sitting in there and start to dump it so here we go many of us fall into the Trap of getting healthy microwavable Wheels here's the problem we got to dump it the reason why many of these meals are incredibly high in salt they often have additives or preservatives that don't work for good gut health and they impact overall blood sugar and hormone balance they're also not as Rich from a nutrient standpoint as foods that we prepare kind of in their native form in a whole form and eat as they're cooked or prepared so if you're highly dependent on microwavable meals then I would suggest that's the first thing to start to trash because again it's easy right you're going to grab it if it's there but if it's not out there you might actually think about what we need to prepare and how we need to go about doing this the next thing to kind of scan just sort of look at your refrigerator and in your pantry get rid of anything white so I'm talking about white bread white sugar white crackers white pasta start to pull that stuff out because all of that really impacts hormone balance it really spikes blood sugar it makes insulin levels higher it drives up cortisol and for any of us in that PCOS or par menopause or menopause world when all those things are getting higher guess what happens our androgens go up and androgens are these derivatives of hormos that historically give us acne or hair loss but in actuality have a bigger impact we actually think there's breast cancer connected to androgens that's getting missed and there's a lot of mental health stuff around androgens and high androgens that we're simply not talking enough about I talk about androgens in PCOS and this video right here don't forget to check it out if you want to learn a little bit more about that but back to our kitchen so we want to get rid of everything white white bread white sugar white flour products and start to replace it with some better Alternatives we'll talk about that in just a second we're still trying to get rid of the bad stuff one that we have to talk about is alcohol if you've got a beautiful wine collection just make sure it's not where you can grab it real easily because whether it is wine or vodka or tequila you guys ask me this all the time alcohol at the end of the day is alcohol and it does create hormone havoc in so many different ways again we're impacting blood sugar we're impacting insulin and cortisol we are impacting the androgens we'll see those go up when folks are taking in too much alcohol and we see everyone children men women everybody our teenagers start to shift into a pattern of estrogen dominance when they start to drink too much alcohol so under a couple of drinks a week not a big deal once you start to cross that threshold then we know that there is a hormone Fallout when it comes to heavy drinking maybe move your alcohol away from the main level or from the Main Kitchen the place where you eat and drink on a day-to-day basis it's a treat food it's a sometimes food it definitely shouldn't be something that's in your kitchen and accessible every single day all right so just to summarize some of what we're moving out of the the kitchen and out of the pantry white Foods white flour Foods trying to get those out white sugar trying to remove that as well dumping the microwavable meals for all the different reasons including high salt and not really having the nutrient load that we need to build hormone and then reducing and eliminating alcohol or putting it somewhere where at least it's not easily accessible all right so that's a quick like four or five things you can do right away to start to clean up your kitchen and your pantry to make it hormone friendly let's talk about you know what we need to include in our refrigerator or Pantry to really maintain healthy hormone balance using food so we're going to start with things that we know have made such a difference so something like apple cider vinegar here's what apple cider vinegar will do taking about a tablespoon a day diluted by the way in a little bit of warm water will actually help to reset your gut it will reset the microbiome it'll reduce something like candida which is now an epidemic candida is an overgrowth of yeast in the gut and when here's the waron pattern so stay with me for just a minute when we have a ton of candida in the gut again we're seeing that pattern right High insulin High androgens High cortisol hormone hell right at our fingertips instead simply adding a little bit of apple cider vinegar daily starts to lower that load of candida and actually helps shift the microbiome and the healthier our guts the better our hormone balance I talk a lot about C CA in this particular video don't forget to check it out to understand how candida might be your core hormone issue so in addition to alider vinegar I also like using MCT oil now MCT oil is a medium chain triglyceride found naturally in things like ghee or coconut oil now what's the purpose of these fats and oils when it comes to hormones so many first of all they're hormone Builders remember the bottommost layer of a hormone when we're trying to build any hormone is actually cholesterol so if we don't have enough good healthy fats in our system then we're not able to build a hormone that we need so adding in about a tablespoon of MCT oil or even a/4 teaspoon to a/ teaspoon of ghee is an excellent hormone Builder but that's just one function the other part of something like an MCT oil is that again it lowers candida and it balances the gut microbiome it's supports the liver in the digestion of fats overall so with MCT oil and adding that into your daily diet and maybe following it right there's a great routine where you do a little bit of apple cider vinegar in the morning you add some MCT oil to your coffee and that's your morning routine that in itself is a hormone balancing routine you can start right there and we're still only talking about Foods we're not even bringing anything else into the equation here and just doing those two steps is supporting the liver supporting the gut balancing the microbiome and setting that foundation for healthy hormone balance overall all right moving on from some of those ideas where are some other Foods here I want to talk about let yogurt for example and kimchi which you see both of those are high Probiotic foods now just like we need MCT oil to balance the microbiome or we need you know some of these other things to help with overall healthy hormone balance High Probiotic foods are so important in the conversation around hormones I've talked before about something called the estrolo the estrolo literally are the gut bacteria that are responsible for SN snatching up estrogen breaking it down and moving it through your body so it can do what it's supposed to do when the gut bacteria are not where it they need to be then what happens is we don't metabolize estrogen appropriately leading to something like estrogen dominance so again adding in a little bit of yogurt we want yogurt that's plain not flavored adding in about a cup a day that's one way of getting in some of those probiotics and just doing it through food if you don't want to do a dairy based food you can also add add in kimchi kimchi is fermented and helps the gut balance its overall microbiome so here are two examples of healthy probiotic friendly foods that are helping to really balance what's living in our gut which in turn helps our hormones do what they need to do all right we got to talk about one more kind of food group or food source to put into your refrigerator or your pantry fiber right a lot of us are not getting enough soluble fiber I see this all the time so many women in particular are eating salads or a lot of raw foods but they're still not getting soluble fiber soluble fiber creates bulk in the St helps to move all these toxins through helps to move out these hormone metabolites so think about adding some soluble fiber whether it's a tablespoon of ground plaque seeds every day or a tablespoon of Acacia powder or psyllium hus all of these are sources of soluble fiber that will help to kind of balance your hormones now here's the catch if you're getting this fiber in but you're not hydrated so we have to add that into our recipes when it comes to healthy hormone balance in food if you're not well hydrated then we know that you're not going to be able to move the stool through the gut leading you to feeling uncomfortable and Bloated so if any of you have tried some of these fibers before and you feel like super bloated and uncomfortable you're probably dehydrated as well all right all of these Foods whether we are trashing certain ones or stashing other ones are connected to a central idea around hormone balance we've got to detox the liver and we've got to reduce inflammation while we also support a healthy gut and that triangle of detox inflammation in gut health is the foundational triangle of healthy hormones and if you don't start there then it's a lot of just plunging holes and band-aiding symptoms without getting to the root and I want you guys to be able to understand this and I I spell it all out in my latest book the hormone shift I literally walk you through the path from building energy for healthy hormones to then in turn reducing inflammation helping your body detox a little bit better naturally and then in turn balancing the gut all through food before we do anything else so remember food is medicine food heals it's an essential part of our hormone story when I talk to people and patients I think this is where we start before we get too deep into the conversation around replacement therapy and all the other options that are out there all right I post new videos Microwaving zaps the nutrients. Thus why you hear you shouldn't warm baby bottles in the microwave. Same goes with the grown up food we eat.

It's unfortunate to eliminate an entire food group like grains is still being preached. Bread is not the enemy, high processed flour from the grocery store and packaged breads are not the same as homemade bread. Freshly milled flour is nothing like the dead flour and products you get in the store. I wish there was more of a push from doctors and people into nutrition to encourage people to mill their own flour again, if you can turn on a kitchen aid you can mill grains. It's that easy and it's got all the fiber, vitamins and nutrition that is lost in the grocery store! Ive been experiencing mood swings big time since i had my baby 5 years ago and something in my head keeos saying, hormones, check your hormones. We are low income. Food banks, barely have 10 dollars at the end of the pay period so we do have to choose mroe wisely. Im blessed to be sober from alcohol, but sugar is my killer im addicted. I slowly cut back and thwn a streasful day and im chugging monster or red bull and some how that helps. I try to treat it like alcohol but it hasnt had me desteoy mt life like alcohol. But financially, those kill us.
