[Music] hi I'm jenda from psychot truma Team from Changi General Hospital one of the things I do is teach Stress Management and I found the use of slowly breeding very effective in managing stress stress can not only affect our emotions but also our bodies it can cause our heart rates to increase our masses to tighten and our bodies to T hands and when we are stressed or angry we tend to breathe in in very short breaths or even hold our breaths an effective way of relieving this stress is by practicing slow breathing exercise by slowing the way we breathe and controlling it we can calm ourselves down and possibly even feel better let's start by getting into a comfortable sitting position you may also do this lying down let's start by first taking in five slow breaths we can start to count to five as you breathe in through your mouth or through your nose so let's start breathe in one 2 3 4 5 hold for just one count and then slowly breathe out for for seven counts through your mouth one 2 3 4 5 6 and seven let's start to practice [Music] this [Music] [Music] this slow breathing exercise is something you can do not only when you're stressed but also when you wake up in the morning so that you can start the day feeling calm and relaxed or at night just before you sleep by doing this simple 5 minute exercise a day you can help yourself manage stress [Music] better
