hey there my name is Cassie Dawson nurse navigator at daer Cancer Care Center and welcome to Columbus Regional healthc Care's cancer connections cancer connections is an educational cancer awareness Series where we cover side effects risk factors and screenings for cancers you may be at risk for so come on and join me for this month's episode September is prostate cancer awareness month about 300,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year that's about one in eight men risk factors for prostate cancer include being older than the age of 40 being African-American having a family history of prostate cancer any Gene changes such as Lynch syndrome obesity smoking chemical exposures having any STDs prostatitis which is an infection of the prostate or if youve had a vasectomy some of these risk factors you cannot change so that's why it's important to have your screenings and listen to the signs and symptoms so you can report them to your primary care provider the available screenings for prostate cancer include a digital rectal exam and a PSA blood level being screened on a regular basis can help detect these cancers early and allowing the opportunity for treatment to be most successful signs and symptoms of prostate cancer include problems urinating or complete loss of bladder control blood in your urine erectile dysfunction pain in the hips or lower back and weakness and numbness in the legs or feet if you're experiencing any of these signs and symptoms please contact your primary care provider or urologist to schedule a followup for evaluation join us at Columbus Regional healthc care and daer Cancer Care Center on the third Wednesday of September and wear Light Blue for prostate cancer awareness and snap a picture and post to your social media with # crhs cancer connections [Music]
