what's up guys Dr Mike Hansen here and today we're going to go more in depth on the health benefits of super smoothies if you don't know what a super smoothie is I invite you to check out the very first super smoothie video that is being uploaded to YouTube right now right here a super smoothie is very healthy for two main reasons one because it's unprocessed or technically minimally processed foods but also the super Smoothie has multiple superfood ingredients so when we're talking about minimally processed food that's naturally high in fiber and has minimal amounts of sugar in fact the only sugar comes from the fruit itself these super smoothies are also filled with antioxidants polyphenols vitamins and minerals and other cool things that you might not even know about the thing I love about these smoothies is that they're fast and easy to make and you can pack a ton of healthy nutrients in there and oh yeah they taste amazing the very first super smoothie is called strawberry cheesecake without it actually being cheesecake this is one of my weight loss smoothies because it's specifically made with high amounts of fiber and extremely low amounts of carbs that's the trick to keeping you full for a long time and also the trick to getting your insulin levels very low now when this happens the body switches from fat storing mode to fat burning mode not to mention all the other health benefits you get by doing this like improving and often reversing type 2 diabetes high blood pressure fatty liver disease high cholesterol and more one of the biggest benefits of smoothies compared to juicing is that you're still retaining the fiber from whatever you're blending yes some of the insoluble fiber does get broken down in that blending process but not all of it and when it comes to that soluble fiber you retain all of that also when blending smoothies it has the added benefit of not using high temperatures to cook the food because often times in that cooking process you're heating things up so high that you inadvertently add unwanted chemicals for example sometimes healthy fats that come from olive oil or other oils they transform their cyst double Bonds in that molecule into trans Bonds in that process in that heating process so that means you're consuming trans fat which is the worst kind of fat that you can possibly put in your body because that fat ends up sticking to the insides of your arteries the way that I was able to make this smoothie super healthy and still make it taste great was by doing this the first ingredient was the coconut ice coconut ice has the benefit of keeping the Smoothie cool and creamy and not watering down smoothie then comes our first superfood ingredient in the form of frozen organic strawberries better to go with frozen berries because they're cheaper and they're usually Frozen right after being harvested North American berries which include strawberries blueberries blackberries and raspberries are high in vitamin C and vitamin A they're also high in antioxidants which is good for anti-aging properties anti-inflammatory properties and it helps to support the immune system this smoothie used a half a cup of strawberries which is five net grams of carbs and one gram of fiber the next ingredient although not a superfood is one of my favorite ingredients because it has zero sugar is creamy and has a delicious flavor and that's the unsweetened organic coconut cream I used 1/3 of a cup which is about 16 G of fat the next ingredient was 1/3 of a cup of unsweetened organic Greek yogurt next up was 1/4 of a cup of raw cashews which adds not only a nice taste but not much in the way of carbohydrates so this was 14 G of fat 9 G of net carbs 1 gram of fiber and 6 gram of protein then came our liquid in the form of coconut milk which was unsweetened this was 5 G of fat no carbs the next superfood that was on the list was our chia seeds these are a flavorless Powerhouse of nutrition because they're high in fiber and antioxidants in fact it has three times more antioxidants compared to blueberries chia seeds have three times more iron compared to spinach and five times more calcium compared to milk overall chia seeds are great for helping you feel full and thus losing weight now I used two tablespoons in this smoothie so this was 8 G of fat 2 G of net carbs 8 G of fiber and 4 g of protein then came some vanilla extract for some extra flavor topped off with a natural sweetener in the form of monk fruit extract which is 0 gram of carbs 0 gam of sugar all in all this strawberry cheesecake super smoothy had 47 G of fat 19 G of net carbs 10 G of fiber and 17 G of protein now this technically doesn't qualify as a keto smoothie because you need to have less than 10% carbs for the overall keto diet but it's actually very low in carbohydrates so if you haven't done so already click on this link here to go check out the video and enjoy
