Certified Holistic Nutritionist
hi everyone out there how's it going hope you're doing well my name is Megan if you are new here and I'm a certified holistic nutritionist and I make videos each week on healthy eating healthy living and simple living and today I thought we'd chat about hormones if you're not too sure of exactly what hormones are they are essentially just chemical messengers that travel through our bloodstream and deliver different messages to different cells and organs that's what they do they're like little low messengers and but they play so many roles in our body everything from reproductive function to sleep stress mood like the list goes on they do a lot but what causes hormones to become motive islands in the first place and how do we even balance them I have written up a much more comprehensive blog post up on my blog for you to read that delves into this a lot more deeper with a lot more information so I will link that below today I'm just going to cover the basics of hormone health and let's get started sleep and stress these too often go hand-in-hand but it's so critical that we a are getting enough sleep enough proper uninterrupted sleep and that we are managing our stress levels cortisol which is one of the stress hormones that is secreted from our adrenal glands is supposed to be at its lowest around midnight but if we are staying up late work we're chronically stressed then we are not going to be getting a proper full night's sleep uninterrupted sleep we're much more likely to wake up throughout the night and this can really throw our hormones out of whack so make sure that you are getting yourself into a routine and you're doing your best to get to bed at the same time each night this routine will help with your circadian rhythm and make sure that you're practicing relaxation techniques every single day if you are under a lot of stress so that you can calm your nervous system avoid environmental toxins so this is something that we hear of a lot in the health world and it's definitely something that I have talked a lot about and the reason why this is so important for hormone health specifically is because a lot of different products out there that we are using on a regular basis or that we are exposed to on a regular basis contain what are known as xenoestrogens which are essentially manmade chemicals that mimic or act like natural estrogen in the body and this can lead to different kinds of women's health conditions or estrogen dominance and things like that so xenoestrogens are things like BPA phthalate parabens pesticide some of the ways that we can avoid overexposure to some of these toxins are using glass food storage containers or water bottles instead of plastic using cleaner beauty products as well as more natural menstrual products as well exercise it helps to promote restful sleep it helps to promote a healthy weight it helps to reduce stress these are other things that are really important for our hormones and additionally it's great for our mood and our immune system you don't want to overdo it because vigorous exercise can be an added stressor on the body if you are dealing with any sort of health condition but what I do recommend is something like a brisk walk each day cruciferous vegetables fruits and these are really great for our hormones because they contain a compound known as indole-3 carbinol which is known to help to remove excess estrogen and estrogen metabolites in the body this is also good news for estrogen related cancers eat healthy fats if there's one thing that I want you to know at this point here its to not be afraid of fat not only our fats required you know as the fundamental building blocks for our hormones but they're also great for inflammation and cognitive function and heart health and promoting a healthy weight some of my favorite rich sources of healthy saturated and monounsaturated fats are things like coconut and avocado extra virgin olive oil fish these are all great sources of fat to include into your diet regularly reduce caffeine I can feel the coffee drinkers cringing at this point but I have to mention it caffeine is a nervous system stimulant and it can be really really hard on our adrenal glands and it also can disrupt our sleep so if you are looking to support your hormones try reducing your caffeine intake and try different herbal teas instead adaptogens are some of my most favorite things in the world and what they are are different types of foods and herbs that help our bodies to adapt and cope with stress but they also help with immune function with healthy hormone ratios and some of my favorites include maca if you've ever heard of maca before it's really great in a smoothie ashwagandha is a really great herb rhodiola ginseng but I also love different mushrooms as well like lion's mane reishi ciao so definitely explore some adaptogens if you haven't yet before they're great for your hormones and that is it for today's video I hope you found these tips helpful leave me a comment below if you have any tips on some things that have helped you to support or balance your hormones and I will see you very soon

Supplement with vitamin c as it is proven to lower cortisol and improve the immune system. I take 500 mg in the morning and 500 in the evening. Do NOT take cold showers if you have overactive adrenals. Ashwaghanda is amazing. Stay away from caffeine, alcohol and long-term intermittent fasting. Also potassium may help relax you.
1. Getting enough sleep.
2. Avoid environmental toxins.
3. Exercises.
4. Eat dark green veggies.
5. Eat healthy fats.

I had this problem too. This is what I used Weedborn CBD products for 🙂
You also may want to implement Castor Oil packs.. this also is very helpful for hormone inbalance. 👍
Ashwaganda has side effects of irregular or racing heart beats which I got so I stopped ashwaganda
