Doesn’t the heat pump automatically switch on emergency heat? A few weeks ago when it was single digits in NC, I heard the heat pump still running and I didn’t see “emer heat” on the thermostat. Is it better to turn it on manually?

Okay so when it is say 54° outside at night maybe 49 degrees the heat pumps running and almost every time it needs auxiliary backup is there ever replace the motor in the blower attic unit and the capacitor on the I've also replaced or repaired the thermostat wires from previous owner if you have advice please give it to me

Great information thanks. Sounds like the air the heat pump can produce is cooler when it’s really cold outside, right? How does the vent air temp change if you change your thermostat from 69 to 72? Does the air temp go up or does the pump just keep pushing 85 deg for longer.

We had our first heat pump ever installed 3 weeks ago, and this video answered the questions and concerns I had. The air coming out of the vents didn't seem hot enough to me, and the unit seemed to be running excessively, but it seems that's just how they operate. I still don't like how it's operating, but at least now I know that's normal. I suppose I'll just have to get used to it.

It's 9 degree outside and I'm having the same symptoms. As a DIY guy I was a bit worried and started to do my own resaech to figure out what's going on with my heat pump. After this broken down details, I'm kind of worry free bcz its a normal thing for heat pump to perform weak ant not blowing enough heat.

Thanks for your video discussion on heat pumps bowing cold air. I agree that the colder the outside temp, the less hat the heat pump will be able to produce. My heat pump system has a 24 KW backup heat strips package that has (4) – 6 KW units. With my Aux 1 setting – I am using 12 KW and with Aux 2 – all 24 KW are engaged. However, when running on Aux 1, I am just getting cool air and not "toasty" air out my registers. I do get warm air with Aux 2 – using the full 24KW. My question – my tech says that he is reading correct current draw for aux 1 but can these heat strips be shorted out or not functional and NOT produce any heat? By my calcs at 12KW I should be getting 41,000 BTU. Your thoughts?

Maybe it's in defrost mode . When in defrost mode make sure the auxiliary heat turns on.

HE didn't even ask what kind of heat pump she had.Does she have an arctic heat pump DESIGNED for cold weather.Iam not the only one living in Canada and I can tell you they heat real well in minus 15 to minus 30.The only thing is their efficiency drops so you may want to use backup heat for real cold.AND I mean colder than what he's talking about

My 4 ton ducted heat pump will blow 110F air with out door temp is 14F after it has not run for 6 or more hours. Every time it starts up after that first run of the day it blows 10F cooler air. I have measured all these temps with a heat gun.

Quick answer, heat pumps suck. In the winter the air is cold so in order to warm the house the answer is to use a different source for heat.

Ive had ours for 3 years now i live in Massachusetts we've only i had 1 time the heatpump would not run the temp was 10 below 0 with wind and we loss power after i have a back up propane fireplace
