Mental health is one of the three aspects of wellbeing and it significantly affects how we feel, think and act. Mental illness is a medical disorder and not a condition that people choose to have or not to have. It needs treatment in the same way as any kind of infection or a broken bone, etc. According to WHO, there are 300 million people worldwide that have some kind of mental disorder, and most common among them being depression. So just remember that if you need help in case of a mental illness, you are not weak. It has nothing to do with weakness or strength of a person. It is a result of complex interaction of social, psychological, and biological factors. It can be due to adverse events like unemployment, bereavement or having a very stressful job or work or home life. It’s more of a social stigma that keeps one away from receiving the treatment. So if you have the symptoms like mood disorders, hallucinations, feeling empty inside, for most of the day, nearly every day, and for at least two weeks, then in that case you should seek the medical advice, as soon as possible. Postpartum depression {PPD} isn't a character flaw or a weakness. It is caused by a combination of: hormonal changes that happen after a baby is born or physical changes such as the loss of sleep, lack of support or increased stress that comes with taking care of a new-born baby. For first few weeks following child birth, its perfectly normal for mothers to face some kind of mental health issues. Symptoms include stress, mood swings, feeling depressed most of the time, and but still most women make full recovery after some time. If the symptoms progress then definitely you should seek medical advice.
