hi i'm dr david hill and today we're going to talk about how to control migraines naturally now migraines affect more people than we ever used to think many people who think they have sinus headaches actually have migraine headaches we also find that children get migraines quite frequently we used to think children didn't get them at all but actually we now know they can affect infants as young as six months old based on some newer research involving brain imaging so migraine headaches then are very pesky to the people who suffer them they may make sufferers nauseated they may make it difficult to look at the light they may keep them from doing daily activities they might have to go lie down or even sleep to get rid of their migraine or they may need to take medications there are however some natural interventions that you can make if you are a migraine sufferer that should help one already if you're somebody who drinks a lot of caffeine usually coffee tea sodas energy drinks you want to cut that out of your diet probably completely at least for a little while caffeine can be a major migraine trigger and a lot of people don't think of it likewise certain foods particularly dark chocolate nuts preserved foods cured meats contain chemicals that can make migraines worse so you might eliminate those from your diet red wine is on that list as well which brings us to alcohol everybody knows too much alcohol can give you a headache it can also be a migraine trigger if you're not sleeping regularly or not sleeping well try to work on your sleep hygiene if you're sleeping better you're also less likely to get a migraine now there are no real natural remedies for migraines beyond the lifestyle changes that we've talked about some people have tried capsaicin nasal spray made from peppers such as cayenne pepper and there is a little bit of evidence that these may be helpful for cluster headaches but cluster headaches are assays and spray even though it's frequently marketed for the relief of all sorts of different headaches important by the way if a headache is behaving unusually any headache that's becoming more frequent more severe waking the sufferer up from sleep in the middle of the night or present when the sufferer first wakes up in the day causing vomiting or causing any neurologic symptoms such as difficulty with walking or talking or certainly causing seizures needs to be seen emergently by a doctor we shouldn't assume that headache is a migraine until you've had at least a thorough physical and history exam and thorough physical and medical history taken talking about relieving migraine pain naturally i am dr david hill
