How to journal for mental health without the “dear diary” vibe
I Journal at night this is my reflective journaling first I like to write the date and right next to the date I write a smiley face a meh face or a frowny face that way I can just look back I can like flip through my journal and I can see patterns of like wow I was doing really really well during this time or wow I started slipping and I started not doing so well during this time and then underneath that you can start to write in a journal entry and it doesn't have to be like dear diary it can be your mood during the day accomplishments also write down if you notice that you got triggered by anything what could have caused that trigger what did you feel immediately what did you feel after you won't always learn something right away but just write it down take note of what's working and what's not working as well I've done a lot of my own change and self work just through these types of journaling exercises

Thanks for this. I write Morning Pages, which is a slightly different beast, but it's is always good to have some ideas in my pocket to write about😊
I really struggle to assign a single emoji for an entire day. My moods really rapidly cycle and I'm not sure if it's cos my moods are more erratic than most people's due to my mental health, or if my moods are perfectly average but because I'm Autistic, I'm too caught up in all the different emotion shifts to look at the big picture 😅 so that does NOT work for me. Ive also found habit tracking doesn't work for me. I find doing the tracker a chore in itself and then if I don't do well for a bit, I have too much guilt to continue the tracker OR the habits on it 😅 The CBT style journalling really helps me though and I've also found almost scrapbook style (but with more writing involved) memory keeping with photos etc helps me with gratitude and positivity. It's a learning process. Loved the video!

This is so helpful. I don’t want to have a detailed journal of my life. I don’t do anything very interesting, but I do want to keep track of my mental state for myself and my psych doctor. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!

It is called Expressive Writing or Emotional writing. See videos of James Pennebaker. When something really upsets you, writing about it is often way more helpful than talking about it. Sorry to all the therapists out there who may miss clients because of this fact. There are things that happen in a person's life that can haunt them for years. Try writing about it. You do not have to write about it every day of your life, just a few times to get the feelings out. It is also helpful if you are in an abusive situation because you often cannot say anything to an abuser, it only makes the situation worse.

I’ve witnessed the effects on people of all walks of life in numerous industries. It doesn’t have to publicly displayed. Just as long as you drop a few unhindered and unedited lines, you’ve done the task ✍🏽❤️

Okay I don’t know you but first thing I thought was "gosh I want that girl's hair" and it looks like I am not the only one
I keep a secret diary on the left pages written in invisible ink and in normal pen on the right side I write about things I like. I also sketch on the left. Someone told me they incurrage it in rehab so I tried it and it is helpful

For my journal I don’t write “Dear diary” I put the date and the number of journal like if I have journaled for the 10th time or something and after those I write about my day I sometimes would add this the mood, any triggers and accomplishments

I think most people kind of know on some level that when we make a diary entry, we feel we are talking to someone. Could be your future self, a dead relative. Teenaged girls from years ago considered their diaries to be trusted friends.
I find it so hard sometimes to talk about how I'm feeling, because it depends on the subject that I'm focusing on. Like, I can talk about it and write it down, but it's like I feel so many ways at one time just in different parts of my life.

Just so y’all know there’s nothing wrong with journaling and having a “dear diary” vibe. Anne Frank did it and it is one of the most important pieces of literature of all time imo
