Low contact leads to no contact.. That's the law for regaining our pristine life back.
I think what is crucial to do whenever stopping a "bad" habit (e.g. spending too much time on the phone to the point where it causes you more bad than good) you need to replace it woth something good or better, something that makes you feel good.
When i first removed tiktok from my phone i kept scrolling to the place where the tiktok icon used to be and accidentally opened the app that replaced the spot on my phone. I did that without even realizing it until i openend the wrong app (since tiktok was gone). I also started to check my emails way more because i yearned for that notification that someone has texted me or something new and exciting is going to happen. So i opened my email app and refreshed it every 30 minutes or so. And i know that sometimes it can be difficult to find a "better" replacement but i think reading or going for a walk etc. definitely help to keep the mew habit up. Also you could use your phone to simply look up stuff to do without the phone 🙂
Another thing i have noticed is that with overall less phone usage and social media my critical thinking and my self image improved a bit. Because when i had social media and i had a problem or felt an overwhelming emotion i googled it or looked it up on social media and then followed exactly what the people online did or i perceived the emotion to be everywhere in everyone. Now i pause when i notice myself feeling off or unwell and at least try to think about and create my own opinion and think about things that could help me. If that doesn't work, i look online or ask friends for help.
But something i must grant socjal media is: if you are in a "self care bubble" it may help to remond you to take care of yourself and it can give you a lot of multiperapectivity since many people publish their opinions. But at the same time, since the algorithm has a tendency to push negative content more, it happens easily that you see videos where people only talk badly about themselves and i started thinking: yeah i suffer from this and that as well, ohhh maybe i also have the said bad trait or habit.
Also i always tell myself: of course it is easier to see whats going on in your friends life with social media and sometimes it is a nice tool to keep in touch with personen that live far away but at the same time: if i meet up with my friends and family or text them through whatsapp etc. i will also be informed of whats going on in the life of the people dearest to me
Soo this comment was way longer than i intended for it to be and i hope that it is understandable as english is my second language 😅
Anyways very cool video and i am happy for you that you got these results! Keep going 🙂
Thank you for this! Going to do an evaluation tonight and watch my progress!
I did this a few times over the course of a 5 year span. The problem is always weaning back into it. After 3-6 months im back into old habits. Im going back in in a few weeks… sigh…
1. Rules: not using social media apps on phone for 30 days
2. Setting limits on phone
3. Dopamine reward loop
4. Law of diminishing returns
5. Digital detox results
I averaged 8 hours a day on my phone last week with the highest day being just shy of 12hrs, probably why I’m not as productive as I would like to be
This book is a hidden treasure "A Life Unplugged: Reclaiming Reality in a Digital Age" by Theodore Blaze
Man, this video hit home. I’m currently on a social media detox and have no plans on going back for awhile. It’s nice to see others doing the same for the same reasons that I decided to quit.
This is awesome and inspiring.
Am I correct in assuming that you have given up on this channel? Or did you move to another channel?
Hey guys, this is a great video and wonderfully edited. Can we all like this video and subscribe to this creator so we encourage him.
Thanks alot guys
Wow, that was actually a good and "well made" detox video. I have looked at a bunch of them, but none where so well made as yours. You might want to dig into the topic of visability for your videos. It should have been the top pick, but it was like on page 4.
I don't even feel productive.
I'm glad you said this it's so true you feel that social media is Hijacking your thoughts and feelings and controlling the way you should think. Social media is good for business but it's really monster and a beast and a big devil in other areas as well.
I didn't know social media caused anxiety, depression or even suicide and mental health isues wow. Ok I'm going to detox for 30 days and not looking back.
Looking forward to reclaiming my time, focus and productivity. Helpful and insightful video – thank you!
I am addicted to YouTube 😥 what can i do??
This is amazing..Ive deleted social media for nearly a year, but have found myself glued to youtube…going to try and wean off it. But I have noticed I am way more focused on myself and the comparison and jealousy has died down. Ive actually started to go for walks and being in nature and reading books!! Im more present with my family too. I almost wish I was brought into the world where social media did not exist
Scripted, shot, and edited very well! Quick question, did this experiment end up changing your relationship with YouTube? I noticed you haven't uploaded in over a year.
I've wanted to do something like this myself. Instagram is the only one I'd have an issue with because I like photography and have met some friends on there, but the rest can go!
Atomic Habits is a great book
I have gone 2 days without social media on my phone. I still have YouTube as its handy for tutorials related to my course, and I find my usage of it way more intentional.
I started wondering what I even did before I got a smartphone at 18…. I look forward to finding out!!
I did this twice with my Life Coach Online course, I also did a 30 day No TV (free to air) material, I have a apple TV so if I wanted I could use this, or youtube. It made a massive difference. To the point where I don't own a TV anymore. I read at least a book a week, I Journal for personal growth daily, read Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod, and change your thinking by Shara Edelman. I try to do trail running or walking most week ends. Gravel bike and I discovered music, on vinyl records. I listen to a lot of live concerts and motorcycle travel reports on youtube and positive exercise motivation materials
Great video! Im super keen to cut out the crap of social media too and this video was really inspiring 🙂 thanks
Ive been quitting my phone. I’m so surprised I’ve been able to go so long without it. I still check it every day but here’s some easy things I did which made quitting my phone easier!
Remove Instagram, Facebook, even YouTube from my phone.
Delete all scrolling apps.
Turn off notifications
Turn off data
Traded my phone and downgraded to a half broken iPhone 6. (Can’t go on it if it doesn’t work!) I would eventually like to only have a home phone but that comes with time.
Leave my phone at home when I run errands and go to work or go hangout anywhere. I don’t need it on my person at all times
I colour by number or do a puzzle, read a book or journal to fill my time when I’m at home. Or I try a new dinner recipe
Quitting your phone is the BEST thing you can do for your mental health. Seriously! Just try it!
Definitely gonna try this👏
