this is going to be a good one today we walked around Target we went on a mission to find you a budget skincare routine for somebody who's getting into skincare or somebody who's just looking for a simple routine for healthy skin care at an affordable cost I'm Dr Shaw Dr Maxfield we're board certified dermatologists and on this channel Dr Le we talk about all things skincare and dermatology and we went on a hunt for you today this is not the first time we shop but this is the first time we're successfully translating this shop into a video this is the first one we've ever done this can be your launching Point your just basic basic basic outline to help you find Budget buys to begin a skincare routine from beginning to end morning and night this is the routine here we go here we go so we both have our products from Target we're going to walk through why we pick each individual product that we picked now when building a skincare routine it's always going to be cleanse treat protect a cleanser for your skin type a treatment that's very specific to your needs and then a moisturizer or sunscreen in the morning that's going to protect you from the Sun and the environmental factors that are out there so let's start off with our cleanser pick okay cleansers and I want you to talk me through why you chose this particular product okay the bags are a problem I'm realizing because they're always noise um this one my cleanser is the L Ro POS gentle foaming moisturizing wash the reason I went with this cleanser so first we talked about this line before but but it's a lot of bang for your buck the volume is tremendous the price is extremely good and the quality is outstanding I felt like this one though the gentle foaming moisturizing wash is like the balance it's like the Common Ground that'll marry either sensitive skin to normal combination skin and so I feel like this would be able to be utilized by most people I will say I have tried your hack of doing your L Ro POS face wash for your body wash I actually do it regularly now um so it's a pretty good hack too extremely effective extremely gentle for your skin now this is one of my favorite cleansers of all time and the B on the size you're talking about 13.5 M for the price it is closer to $20 but even then it's going to last you a really long time you could use it on the body and the face the only reason I didn't grab it is because he had already grabbed it so you're over my shoulder interesting I grabbed the Vana cream gentle cleanser this is a foaming cleanser which I like the foaming sensation to it so it's not one of the gentle cleansers that makes you feel like you're rubbing lotion on your face which I I hate that texture this one was about $12 so at an affordable price point now you're only getting 8 oz versus 14 oz but if you're looking for a cleanser that's going to last you a long time 8 oz is really quite good it's got a glycerin base Coco glucoside it's got sodium Coco glycinate so pretty simple um and when it comes to a very simple ingredient list that's not going to have a common allergens in it you can really trust vanic cream to be there now Coco glucoside is technically an alkal glucoside so if you're allergic to deal glucoside or any of those other types of ingredients you might want to be careful with this but overall very reliable brand when it comes to sensitive skin yeah extremely vanic cream probably going to be recurring them I'll build my team over here your team can live over there all right next up let's start off with our nighttime routine so let's go on to the treatment for your nighttime routine okay I'm going first again I guess the one I landed on eventually is the urban skin RX retinol Rapid Repair Dark Spot Treatment the reason I picked this is if you're going to have a ingredient at night retinol is probably going to be the best bang for your buck from an aging standpoint for a solo ingredient and then honestly the cheapest way to often get a lot of ingredients or products to your skin is to find a Consolidated product uh remedy for dark spots R for pores like classic prototypical like exemplified idea of this um but Urban skin orx one of my favorites as well not available at Target I bought at Target no no this is available at Target I'm saying remedy is not available at Target right remed is not Target and then do also AIC acid kic acid nide glutathione Alpha arbutin so very complimenting thing it'll help most aging concerns specifically it's going to be most helpful for dark spots in tone though which is why it's called the dark spot Tre so so what is the price point on this product I think it was 26 so $26 but what it packs for $26 is actually really amazing so you have your niacinamide you have your coic acid you have your retinol in it you have your alphar buttin you have your THD ascorbate glutathione aoic acid so really thoughtful list of ingredients now it does have peppermint in it so could be an irritant in some people but overall a very thoughtful combination of ingredients to tackle dark spots but it's also just because it's a dark spot product doesn't mean it's not going to help with fine lines and wrinkles it's not going to help with pores and texture it is going to certainly do all those things it's just main function is to help with dark spots and even skin tone so I agree this is an incredible product overall not much negative to say about it the only thing I don't know is the percentages of the ingredients in it which could be useful to know for the list of heavy-hitting ingredients that are in this product yeah so that one's M my product for treatment at night again we're building a really basic routine here for somebody who really just wants that healthy aging healthy skin care going to help with texture going to help with blemishes just overall even skin tone but not targeting anything quite specific I chose the C resurfacing retinol which they're saying is new but it's not been new for a very very long time I mean this product's been out for years now um and this has of course you know when it comes to Cave it's got it ceramides in it it's got that dimethicone base in it so it's going to be reparative as well it's got niacinamide in it it's also got licorice root in it I believe of course it's got its retinol I believe this is an encapsulated retinol at a .1% concentration plus your hyaluronic acid in it so this is going to be one of those products that has quite a bit in it and it has that mve technology that's going to keep your skin hydrated so overall this is a winning product um in my mind we've talked about it a million times I believe this one was around $18 which is a good price point for a starter retinol now this is not an advanced retinol but for somebody who just simply wants you know clear skin healthy skin over time this is a really good starting point that was the product that was almost an overlap cuz I was looking for that forever I can never find this product in stores I don't know if I just don't understand the layout but I'm always looking for this I can only ever find the renewing they're never anywhere near each other but eventually I found that but on my way out I found this and I was like oh I do love this so next up in my night routine I chose a moisturizer this one is from curology so curology a lot of you have seen is like an online tele medicine PL platform uh but they now are in stores at Target what I like about this product is that it is really a richer cream for drier skin and as somebody who has more of that combo to dry skin I look for a heavier cream and it's really kind of hard to find heavier creams in Target so this is a really good option for a facial moisturizer and people actually love this product quite a bit and this moisturizer was again coming in around that $18 price point mark so not cheap it's still pretty expensive these products I think overall just skin inflation is there but sub $20 which I think you're going to get a good amount of value for at affordable price point now it doesn't have any common allergens in it it's a really thoughtful formulation now I will say this about curology in general when you use their TM or tele medicine platform they use the most bizarre concentrations of active ingredients so you'll get tro in like 0.0000 1% or 0 7% we don't even know if there's any efficacy in that so I really wish that that their online platform used more traditional percentages of actives that we know are effective but their in store line is pretty affordable doesn't contain any common allergens and that's something that I do like about it I want you to try it this comes in an an Airless pump yeah that's a great vehicle it's amazing how damaged My Skin Barrier becomes because this actually Burns and I know it should not but you all are pretty acute to when my face first it turns red I read the comments so we'll see what it looks like overall it feels great my skin Bearer is just really messed up from some other things right now what I wanted in my moisturizer I wanted a moisturizer that does more so I was really really looking I spent most of my time looking for the moisturizer which seems absurd what I was specifically wanting was a moisturizer plus peptides like a really just loaded thing just again consolidate ingredients consolidate steps but I couldn't find one that was I felt would really fit the budget theme so I just kind of gave up like I just the selection wasn't as robust the products I looking before weren't there so I went with a really just basic good moisturizer cavey facial moisturizing lotion pm if you're just looking for a straightforward moisturizer I think this is a wonderful option SV camiz always the case just really great for Your Skin Barrier this also has niacinamide in it somewhere yep there it is so it's just kind of a well-rounded basic moisturizer really simple it's kind of lightweight it's going to counterbalance any irritation you're getting from your active ingredients in the previous steps interestingly this one did not irritate my skin at all really straightforward simple product good option all right so that kind of wraps up the night routine so you have a cleanser you have a treatment that's specific he chose was a dark spot treatment I told a retinol with some lightning brightening properties as well and then we have a moisturizer mine was for dry skin his was for oily skin but a simple routine and I think both of us are still under $50 or right around the $50 Mark total so far it's close maybe yeah maybe you're right yeah okay not bad that's pretty good all right let's go on to the morning so in the morning I'm using the same cleanser me too you know unless you have acne where you want to introduce an acne cleanser with benzil peroxide ignore what I'm looking what you're looking at right here with as far as this product cuz I made a mistake confus me yeah ignore that uh but for the cleansers you really can just use the same cleanser so vany cream L Ro P great options for you now as far as a treatment in the morning I skipped it that's fair actually and I I was kind of wondering where you were going to go with this this took me a long time to find this is actually my most I'm most proud of this step the reason is like what is your treatment phase in the morning really if you categorize this most of your treatments do fall at night whether it's your exfoliating acids whether it's your retinoids and it doesn't always have to be that way cuz peptides are twice a day a lot of things can be twice a day but I found one I wanted so I actually like this brand Pacifica their packaging I think is the thing that won me over they have a lot of glass packaging which I'm a sucker for but their ingredients are good as well this one is your vitamin C so whenever I'm thinking of a treatment in the morning like my mind goes first a vitamin C and if not vitamin C then some sort of antioxidants this is your ascorbic acid I think I looked up it was 10% ascorbic acid vitamin E I actually believe this is fragrance-free as well and I think this is the lotion yes and so in addition to finding an antioxidant Rich lotion I think it's fragrance free I wanted one that was functional it's got an orange peel and vanilla fruit extract and tangerine extract so technically fragrance free but a lot of oils and plant extracts that are fragrant but this one for me marries two steps so this is my active treatment stage in the morning and it's a very rich moisturizer like it's it's a lotion but it's a very very rich Hydrating Lotion and it's your also your vitamin C antioxidant so one step again multiple products really moisturizer so this is my pick the packaging so good this is quite beautiful packaging it's got a gradient it's that uh that glass that is um foggy what do you call it uh I don't know I forget what it's called overall not not an offensive fragrance doubling as a moisturizer and an antioxidant serum I like it I like it there's not a lot of really good antioxidant serums that I could find at Target to be honest so it is quite Limited in that range though Timeless has their vitamin see it wasn't there was it yeah no I didn't see it but a lot of targets have Timeless yeah I was looking for that one I couldn't find it so this one is actually I think $18 maybe let's say less than $20 so pretty good for what you're getting so despite the fact that it wasn't present at the Target that we were at I do have the Timeless vitamin C cuz I ordered it in the past and I have it here and this is Affordable I believe it's around $20 or less and it's a 20% vitamin C plus Fric acid plus vitamin C product quite beautiful Packaging actually it's gone up quite a bit in price so it's around $26.99 but they used to be under $20 yeah and very similar smell that you would get with any pure vitamin C product whoa whoa that's a watery serum wow this really should have made it to our best of vitamin C video because it really is a nice formula I think we soft mentioned it we did soft what's that smell we did soft mention it it's that same like dog water smell dog water it's more like citrus dog water this is a great vitamin C serum we did mention it in passing in the best of vitamin C videos but you know we in the comments you wish for a longer highlight so we're making sure we give it the attention we know it deserves here great smell is Benzel alcohol Benzel alcohol is a fragrant alcohol so that's the smell that you're getting and it's canceling out a little bit of that smell that you get from that hot dog water from Al ascorbic acid I prefer the hot dog water personally all right so we can put this in the middle somewhere just in case you're looking for it and then for the morning the last step uh of course is a sunscreen and I meant to grab the rock sunscreen but I grabbed instead their PM so rock has a barrier renew am and they have a barrier renew pm and I grabbed their barrier renew PM but pretend that I'm holding the barrier renew am which is a chemical based sunscreen that doubles as a moisturizer so you can STI your moisturizing step or you could use the same moisturizer from night or you could just use this so what I like about it is it's a moisturizer and a sunscreen it also has green te in it so it's going to have that anti oxidant benefit as well I'll cut in a video of me applying the sunscreen so you can see how it Blends but it's invisible because it's a chemical sunscreen similar except imagine it in Orange packaging I actually think this wasn't that the sunscreen you all gave me at the aad with rock when you're like are you wearing sunscreen yeah yeah yeah yeah and I was like no yeah yeah it's great I love that sunscreen it's super lightweight it is the perfect hydrating moisturizing sunscreen so it's right around $18 so pretty affordable for what it does so add $18 to my list and pretend that this is the sunscreen in mine I knew exactly where I was going vanac cream makes another appearance here this one I actually also did have my first exposure to at a conference um went to the van cream booth I was like oh I've never tried the sunscreen this is one of the best mineral budget friendly sunscreens of all time I need to look at the price I didn't do a good job mentally cataloging these prices here the under 20 bucks for sure 15 at Target budget friendly outstanding sunscreen quite honestly it's of the best that's available out there we talked about it before but it's a pure mineral sunscreen from vanity cream low allergenicity potential but Blends incredibly incredibly well now you can never say that any sunscreen with zinc oxide is going to have zero white cast but this is about as good as it gets at the price point that it's at so I really think that this is a phenomenal and severely severely underrated sunscreen yeah I'm actually wondering if it's going to blend into my facial hair all the way I I actually I think it's going to I didn't measure it precisely but I did put a very big glob yeah for a pure mineral non-tinted sunscreen the blend is top tier like it there are some great ones out there and this deserves mention with the best of them any price included and I really think if you're looking for a mineral based sunscreen that's just absolutely phenomenal at this price point at target this is really the way that it goes it has that nice squalling glycerin finish so I mean as you can tell from this video completely Blended in nicely with my skin just absolutely phenomenal for a mineral based sunscreen so I absolutely love this one all right so we basically tallied from our gigantic Target receipt what our totals were from this trip and since I didn't have an AM serum and I just simply went with a cave night treatment plus the cleanser the moisturizer and the sunscreen my total came to 656 PR good so yeah um mine having a vitamin c in there as well $91 I'm shocked actually that we were able to get two complete these are pretty Rob two pretty robust well-rounded routines both under a 100 bucks morning and night included so you know 5 years ago probably half the price but that's impressive so $65 $90 still pretty expensive but I will say that the routines both of them should last a minimum of two months and depending on how sparingly you use them you could get up to three months with it maybe the sunscreen you would need to refill on it but otherwise you should be in pretty good shape for two to three months out of this routine so you're looking at about $30 a month on my endend you're looking about $45 a month on his end there still are affordable options out there if you're really deliberate with your choices but skincare is very very expensive prohibitively expensive so be very thoughtful about the products that you're choosing make sure that you know why you're buying what you're buying you're not just buying the next viral product because we saw tons of viral products when we were going through the aisles and we didn't select those because they didn't really have any meaningful purpose in our routines like I was looking for something that was going to be good for aging but also good for dry skin and so I chose my products based on that so just be thoughtful when you're going through the aisles know what you're looking for why you're looking for it ignore the viral products that are out there and buy the products that are going to be best suited to your needs right this is all about you this is extremely personalized thoughtful so be deliberate about your choices be deliberate about your skin you're going to have great results again I'm pretty happy about the price that these came in at I'm shocked myself so I'm ending on a high note but I hope this was helpful for you it was a lot of fun and a lot of work for us to put into it too thank you all so much for tuning in please like comment and subscribe and we'll make some more routines in the future and we'll try to keep things as affordable as possible let us know what you want us to build you a routine from from either the drugstore Target or Sephora we'll see you in the next video see you next time

  9. My attention span actually survived this one.
