today i'm going to share with you one of my tried and true home remedies that i like to use and i like to keep it in my medicine cabinet year round for when those earaches strike hey friends welcome back it's katie here with browse rising and today i am out in the garden i am picking some mullen plant and i'm going to share with you my top secret remedy that i use for ear aches and ear infections and we are going to enjoy some time together making this amazing home remedy these are more mature mullein plants that have the tall yellow flowering stalks and that is what we are after today mullen is an amazing medicinal plant that is really good for respiratory ailments as well it can be used in salves alongside calendula to ease minor scrapes cuts and burns today the purpose that we are getting the mullen flowers for is to make an a healing ear oil and this ear oil can be used with signs of ear infection this ear oil can be used to ease tinnitus there are many different ailments associated with the ear that this particular oil is going to soothe so it's an excellent one that i like to keep on hand these are the first year mullen plants and these are the ones that i like to harvest for my teas and my tinctures i leave the older leaves to the older plants to flower and then these are the ones that i prefer to harvest for other medicinal purposes and to make our respiratory support tea and things like that [Music] today i am sharing with you a very simple home remedy that you can use if you get an earache or if someone in your household has some ear pain now this is a remedy that you can use as long as there's no liquid draining from the ear and as long as you do not have a perforated eardrum this is a remedy that is going to suit you well and ease your earache as well as provide some antibiotic treatment from the garlic and that's going to help get rid of any kind of infection or virus that is invading your ears so what i've done here is collected a little mason jar full of these mullen flowers and they're in full bloom so you can go out and collect the flowers once the flowers have bloomed they fall off and they accumulate in the leaves below so they're really easy to harvest they're very simple to harvest and if you don't have access to the flowers and you just have the leaf from the first year mullen plant you can use that as well so it's okay to use the flower it's okay to use the leaf and stem so what i've done here is collected a little mason jar full of these mullen flowers and what i'm going to do is infuse these mullen flowers along with some garlic that i just harvested from the garden my garlic bulbs did not come out giant but i have a big pile up there of some garlic bulbs that are about this size and these are the hard neck garlic variety that i grew and because i didn't start them last fall i actually started them in early spring they just didn't get as big as i had hoped but this year we're going to have a better garlic harvest because we are going to do a little bit better with our planting and our planting so i am going to be using some of these garlic bulbs today to make my garlic mullein ear oil as well i am going to be fermenting a whole lot of these garlic cloves and some honey and we are going to be making honey fermented garlic and this is an amazing antibiotic at home treatment to treat your ailments so for the garlic we are going to be cleaning these up and chopping them up and adding them to our little dish here and i'm going to leave this to infuse on my porch for the next couple of days because it's nice and hot and i'm going to take advantage of that sun heat if you don't want to do that you can also put a little bit of water in your slow cooker and you can do a little double bath boiling of this jar this is something that i keep in my cabinets for myself and my family i make a new batch every so many months i make sure that i dry some mullen flowers and some mullen leaf as well as i keep organic garlic in the house at all times and that way i can always make this oil and i can always have access to these when i need them so i actually have some fermented honey garlic from years ago in my cabinet that i still use i make it every single year so i've got a couple of jars that have varying varying degrees of fermentation going on it is a very runny liquid a very dark liquid and that is okay that is chock full of antibiotic properties so your honey fermented garlic can be good for quite a long time but i recommend consuming it within six months to a year and the same thing with your garlic mullein oil it's good in your refrigerator up to four to six weeks uh sometimes i've left it in there longer but like i said i like to keep these dried items on hand so that i can make this when i need it and have it fresh because you don't want it to accumulate any kind of bacteria or anything nasty in there so you do need to be renewing your infused oils because they go rancid and you want to be remaking your honey fermented garlic every six months every year you can buy garlic mullein oil at your local health store and you're looking at about 12 to 17 dollars for a bottle this size it is so much more economical to make your own at home if you have the resources to do so if you have these um herbs and medicinal plants available to you also you can just hop on amazon i will leave a link down below in this video's description i use the uh one ounce the two ounce and the five ounce dropper bottles for my medicinal remedies and so i would encourage you to check those out in this video's description if you need some little dropper bottles to store your remedies in check those out also if you don't want to make your own garlic mullein ear oil you can check this video's description and there will also be a link for that and when you make your infused oils you can use whatever oil that you have available to you you can use a sweet almond oil today i used an organic olive oil you can also use the type of coconut oil that does not solidify so there's a variety of oils just do your research see what you have on hand available to you certainly i don't want you to go out and buy something if you can substitute and use something that you already have on hand so i used this oil for the garlic mullein ear oil it's very simple what you need to do is source your dried or fresh flowers you want about three tablespoons of dried flowers and i would say about four tablespoons of fresh flowers and then you're going to do about two to three tablespoons of garlic just roughly chopped you know you can do chunks you can chop it fine i just do larger chunks and then i cover that with oil so i used about a quarter cup of oil to the mixture you can do a quarter cup to about a half cup i'm using a four ounce mason jar for this and it holds all the ingredients perfectly and they are just infusing right away in the sunlight so you want it to infuse for about three hours or so if you're going to be doing it in a double boiler on a low temperature or you just leave it outside in the sunlight for a day and that will work you want to strain it through a cheese cloth and once you strain all the contents through your cheesecloth you can then store it in your dropper bottle this is a dropper bottle i just reuse time and time again and i just keep adding oil to it as needed as i make it and that works out great for us i keep it in the refrigerator um and then that's what we use reduce reuse recycle so thank you so much for watching today if you like this video go ahead and give it a like that's a thumbs up in this video's description i'm also going to be leaving you with my medicinal remedies playlist and you can browse through that i have lots of elixirs and syrups and different things there that you can peruse and check out and see if there's anything there that suits your needs so thank you so much for watching today i loved having you here with me until next time you all bye

  1. Mullein tea helped my kids with coughs last winter when the OTC meds didn’t do a thing, even the homeopathic meds. It’s amazing stuff.

  2. Great video! It is amazing for you to share your knowledge of these holistic remedies, kitchen and garden. We’re going to need more of this type of thing in the days that are coming. Your family is lucky to have you!

  3. Good morning Rowes Rising. Those home remedies to soothe ear aches and fight infections seem such a wonderful natural alternative to the healing process – as opposed to prescription drugs with side effects and most OTC medicines.

  4. Have you tried making black garlic? I was thinking of trying it in my slow cooker… outside…( Maybe porch) so our house won't smell!

  5. As I watch this…I think of all the times I pulled this out, thinking it was a useless weed…now I want one 🤣🤣
