hey everyone welcome or welcome back if you're new here my name is Nena and today we're talking all about how to declutter to reduce anxiety and where to start now research has clearly shown us that clutter can be a major source of stress anxiety and depression and I'm sure you've noticed that when our space feels cluttered it can feel impossible to relax and to focus and it can directly contribute to feelings of overwhelm and mental exhaustion even when we don't acknowledge it but decluttering our physical Space by getting rid of things that are toxic or no longer useful or even attached to negative memories or painful events can help us to feel a lot more relaxed and in control and actually greatly increase our feelings of happiness and well-being the problem for many of us however is that when we finally come to this realization we have no idea where to start or what types of items tend to be the worst offenders for contributing to negative emotions and obviously we want to address these items first because if we can have some pretty immediate results that's going to motivate us to keep going because we are going to see that there is a big difference in how we are feeling and that positive emotions are beginning to replace our feelings of anxiety and overwhelm in order to accomplish this we need to begin where we're going to feel the biggest impact quickly so today I wanted to share with you a list of the areas and the items to focus on first so you can start feeling better right away so let's Jump Right In and talk about these specific items that we need to get rid of that are likely causing us anxiety that we really do need to address before we even think about decluttering the rest of the house because they truly are toxic the first is anything associated with negative or painful memory so for example if we still have visible items in our home that are connected to a past relationship that didn't end well or a phase of our life that brings up painful memories or feelings these things really do need to leave our home as soon as possible because otherwise they're going to repeat heatedly trigger us and we will continuously feel emotions like guilt sadness and resentment and if you don't yet feel ready to permanently get rid of these items that's okay at least box them up and get them out of sight as you heal from these events and these experiences it will begin to become a lot easier to let these things go and please know that these items often go beyond just the obvious things they can be things like clothing or artwork or even very random things that have a negative association so what you can do is kind of go through the house and see what gives you a bad feeling or even gives you mixed feelings and those items just clear them out for now if you end up getting a sense of relief once that is done you will know you've made the right decision number two is unfinished projects if we are not currently working on something it should not be in our living space subconsciously these items are continuously giving us negative messages like we're a failure or we never complete things or we always waste money so this is something that we do need to be aware of be compassionate with yourself and understand that if these things remain in view they will continue to lead to feelings of guilt shame and anxiety and they will begin to affect your self-esteem and when we're talking about those projects that we really have lost interest in or really just don't care about anymore sometimes just letting ourselves off the hook and telling ourselves that it's okay if we never want to continue with this can feel like a huge weight off of our shoulders but if we're really not a hundred percent sure yet the same thing can apply just pack it all up and get it out of eyesight if months and months go by or even years and years and years go by we know that it's no longer worth our time and energy and at that point we can safely get rid of it number three are unwanted gifts so the things that we never would have chosen for ourselves but we are keeping simply out of guilt and I know a lot of times we think that we are being kind by trying to hold on to these items but in reality they do nothing but clutter up our home and lead to a lot of negative emotions these items make us feel like other people are in control of what should or shouldn't be in our home especially when people do this directly and intentionally try to make us feel bad if we don't keep these items around we can even get guilted into bringing large items like Furniture into our home that we would have never wanted to be there and in the future we can work on becoming more assertive so we don't allow these items to come into our home in the first place but for now we can simply work on getting them out of our space and in the cases where it's more along the lines of people you genuinely love simply giving you gifts that you really don't like just remember that their intention behind giving you the gift was to try to make you happy and to show their love for you not to burden you with guilt or anxiety so we can appreciate the gesture and receive the love that was intended by the gift but still separate these feelings with whatever we choose to do with the actual material object so there you have it those are the items that I have found to be most commonly directly linked to anxiety but keep in mind that every person is different and it's so important that we think about our own unique situation and unique life and identify the types of clutter that could be causing us to feel anxious or depressed one may have the courage to finally declutter these items or at least move them out of our living space we're going to notice that we immediately start experiencing a lot less negative emotions but as someone who used to greatly struggle with clutter I know that this is oftentimes a lot easier said than done so if you feel like you need a little bit more support in your decluttering journey I do have an entire playlist on this topic that I will go ahead and Link down in the description box below so definitely check that out I truly hope that you found today's video to be helpful and insightful if you did please like it share it and definitely become a subscriber if you aren't one already I would absolutely love it if Thank you
So true..I m always stunned how much guilt one feels decluttering certain items, no matter how much one already decluttered, the guilt seems to creeps up in the most unexpected moments 😅Your videos are a blessing Nena 💮
Good tips! Those items do “talk” to us,so they need to go!
Nena! 🤗
Clutter is a weird thing in my household. I'm not a fan of too much stuff and my wife loves to decorate for every holiday and is also a fan of keepsakes. What's I think is clutter isn't from her perspective to there's a huge amount of give and take.
Thank you so much for your insight and kind words … I actually had to pause this video several times to process the intense emotion coming up when you called out these categories …
Hey my dear! I have recently de cluttered my space by taking a break from social media again! (I did 6 years once ) and cleaned out under my bed! I love listening to your voice and advice.
Absolutely love this video gorgeous Nena, I've decluttered any item from a person who I fell out with or a possession that gives me bad flash backs. The painting in your background is stunning🤩💙.Happy September✨️!
